Having a Healthy Baby
Having a healthy baby starts way before you are ready to get pregnant. Any women in baby producing years, around twenty to thirty, should be taking care of themselves now. Whether they plan on having a child or might in the future. If they are sexually active and in this age range, then there is the possibility of getting pregnant. Even women on birth control should be following precautions. What does that mean? Every women should be taking some kind of multivitamin with folic acid. It not only helps in producing a healthy child, "some studies show folic acid also may help protect women from cervical and colon cancer" (www.modimes.org/programs2/folic acid/default.htm). The next thing to consider when

Drink more milk, or foods that substitute for milk. Make sure you are getting your daily serving of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you do not eat enough fruit and vegetables, make sure you are taking a prenatal vitamin. You also need to add a little protein into your diet. Drink lots of water, you do not want to dehydrate yourself, and instead of drinking sodas, drink more fresh juices. A doctor may suggest a prenatal vitamin. Some doctors think that a balanced diet is sufficient, while some think that you need both. A balanced diet is very important, but it will be very difficult for you to meet all of your bodies growing needs. A prenatal vitamin will give your body many nutrients that you need. Baby center suggests that a good prenatal vitamin "contain iron, folic acid, vitamins A, C, D, and E, B vitamins- thiamine, vitamin B6, riboflavin, niacin, and B12, calcium, potassium, copper, antithetic acid, and zinc. Prenatal vitamins usually contain a stool softener…since large amounts of iron may cause constipation" (www.baby center.com/refcap/287.html). There is many things that you can do to have a healthy baby. One of the most important would be to quit smoking and drinking alcohol. The reasons to quit smoking might be that your baby will grow better because it is getting more food and oxygen. If you decide to smoke while you are pregnant you could have a miscarriage or stillbirth, your baby could be born with health
Before receiving the Real Care Baby, I knew it took a lot of work to care for a newborn. I now know that it takes a lot more than I thought. The forty-eight hours I had the baby were frustrating, exhausting, and stressful. It’s a lot of hard work, but I’m sure if it were a real child it would totally be worth it.
Immediately after birth, the newborn has an identification band put on. One band is put on the ankle, one on the wrist. The newborn has footprints done immediately. Included on the footprint sheet are the newborn’s name, sex, DOB, time of birth, and mother’s health record.
The term low birth weight is used in describing infants weighing less than 5 lbs 8 ounces (2500g) whereas the average weight is 8 lbs (Stanford, 2015). An infant with a low birth weight has a significantly higher chance of neonatal and perinatal mortality (Maheswari & Behera, 2014). Babies who do persevere and survive are documented of having inadequate neurosensory, cognitive, behavioral development and limited school performance (Guyatt & Snow, 2004). Shiono and Behrman (1995) state that infants with low birth weight consist of 7% of live births, however, 35% of the cost of health care goes towards caring for low birth weight infants. Studies show that African American infants are twice more than Caucasian infants to have a low birth weight. To bring a life into this world takes more than conception; sacrifices need to be made, nurturing, and providing a safe home for the child, but many minorities struggle to fulfill these needs. Health and health care are imperative when it comes to being an expecting mother; therefore, it is important that to address what influences the birth weight of African American infants in my research paper. I hope to address how factors such as racial discrimination within the American health care system, prenatal care, stress, and the age of the mother contributes to the low birth weight (LBW) disparities between African American infants and Caucasian infants.

Prenatal vitamins are recommended to prevent birth defects. A study from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill published in 2009 found that women who took vitamins before or during pregnancy had a 57 percent lower risk of miscarriage compared to women who did not take vitamins. If these pregnant women would have realized it sooner they could’ve taken prenatal vitamins to prevent it. Lack of prenatal care, being underweight or overweight, and teens under 17 years old have a greater risk of having a miscarriage.
Due to the loss of muscle mass, protein adequacy is also a problem in older adults because it is not advised to increase protein intake. Limited protein intake may result in vitamin A, C, D, calcium, iron, zinc, and other deficiencies (Grodner, 2012). Overall, Theresa’s small nutrient intake can result in many nutrient deficiencies.
Having children can be one of life’s most exciting and fulfilling adventures! A healthy development of a baby is a goal that everyone strives for. In order for a healthy baby to develop, it must undergo the crucial stages of prenatal development. Once the stages are complete, a miracle of a new life will develop.
Although breast milk adequately meets most infant's nutritional needs, amounts of Vitamin D may not be sufficient to sustain proper health; this may be especially true if a mother had low vitamin D status during her pregnancy (5). For proper
[1] Firstly, the nutrients needed by pregnant women are Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin B – (B1, B2, B3 & B6), Folic Acid (B9), Calcium, Iron, Protein, zinc. (2011)
During the early 1900’s, the healthcare system for families in rural areas was virtually nonexistent. Mary Breckinridge noticed a need for more healthcare access in these areas, which led her to create the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS). Through her work, Breckinridge was able to provide thousands of families with the healthcare that they needed, while also bringing an entirely new field of study to the United States. What led her to believe the United States needed a change? What impact did her work have on the United States, and is it still relevant today? We will be looking at the significant impact that Mary Breckinridge made to the field of nursing and to the overall healthcare system of the United States.
It is no secret how a woman's body is highly vulnerable during pregnancy. There are a lot of things she cannot do when she is with child. A pregnant woman cannot consume raw unpasteurized cheeses and meats, certain types of fish, junk food and fast food, and extra vitamins. They are asked to limit their exposure to paint fumes and to strenuous activities. Doctors however are adamant that pregnant women stay away from drinking alcohol.
Prenatal care is medical care for pregnant woman and is important for a healthy pregnancy. Its key components include regular checkups and prenatal testing, eating healthfully, exercising, and beginning as soon as one knows she is pregnant.
Birth of a child can be such a happy time, especially when the little one is very healthy. We all have seen the movies when a new child is born, some of us are lucky to see it first hand. Some of us do get goose bumps, me being one of them. It is just so exciting to see that little life come out of what has been in that big belly for nine months. We sometimes refer to the birth of a child as labor. If only it was as easy as the name sounds. However, it is not. There are three main stages in birth. The first stage is the longest stage that can last 12 to 14 hours with the first birth, and later births are shorter. Dilation and effacement of the cervix take place here. That is when the uterine contractions gradually become more frequent and
Prenatal care is widely accepted as an important element in improving pregnancy outcome. (Gorrie, McKinney, Murray, 1998). Prenatal care is defined as care of a pregnant woman during the time in the maternity cycle that begins with conception and ends with the onset of labor. A medical, surgical, gynecologic, obstretic, social and family history is taken (Mosby's Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health Dictionary, 1998). It is important for a pregnant woman as well as our society to know that everything that you do has an effect on your baby. Because so many women opt not to receive the benefits of prenatal care, our society sees the ramification, which include a variety of complications primarily
I used to think that dolls were nothing except perfect little pieces of glass. I didn’t really care for me as much as my mother did, but soon enough...every look, every word, every sound started to run my life.
