Most people have to pay something towards their own care and some will have to pay for all of the costs. One type of social care is help in the home. Some individuals may require help in the home to live independently as possible e.g. elderly or individuals suffering disability. Some individuals will require help by with daily living activities such as washing, cleaning, getting dressed, using the toilet, social activities etc. Having help in the home usually costs about £15 per hour that’s nearly £11,000 per year if you have a career for 14 hours a week. Throughout this assessment I will analyse a critical incident of an interaction between a worker and a service user or carer during my statutory observation experience. I will conclude my own assessment of the situation and demonstrate my understanding of the use of self, context in which social work takes place and the knowledge and methods of practice. I will not use any of the service users, carers or agencies names in this essay due to the data protection act 1998. I will also adhere to the GSCC codes of conduct that respect and relate to the service users

A health service is a service that provides care and is under the NHS. For examples hospitals or a G.P. They provide treatments but also prevent illnesses through health promotions. A social care service is about providing support to individuals to help them get by and who ever needs it such as emotional support or practical support with daily living tasks.
In chapter seven, it talks about emotions which are internal sensations that are shaped by physiology, perceptions, language, and social experiences. It is said that we feel emotions when external stimuli cause a physiological change in our bodies. For example, before and while giving my identity presentation, I felt anxious and nervous. I knew this because I was sweating, light-headed, and my stomach was turning. Another example for me would be whenever I get extremely mad because it feels like my whole body is on fire.

Historically and currently, a person in need of social care services is assessed by a social worker and other agencies. Then they decide the type of support the service user will receive, who from, where and when. For a couple of years now the government has been moving towards changing that system to one which the person in need of social care gets to decide the type of support they need and how, and this is now known as personalisation.
Family Support Resource Services (SSD), Lancaster This relatively new service started January 2004 in response to the ‘Every Child Matters’ Green Paper, which advocates a universal children and family service. It is a Lancashire County Council initiative. This service was established as it was felt that there was an over-reliance on residential care, and the family centre and nursery services previously in place were obsolete due to the influence of agencies such as Sure Start and Home Start. It was planned as a targeted service whose key aims were to reduce the number of children entering the care system and to empower parents.
Similarly, Alcock, (2014, p.2) defined social policy as the term used to refer to the “action taken within the society to develop, and to deliver services for people in order to meet their needs for welfare and wellbeing”. Social policy is underpinned by social inequality due to the social problems which affects families and community life in the UK; this could be in terms of health, poverty, unemployment, anti-social behaviour or family breakdown. It also upholds core values in policy making which ensures mutual obligations are taken by administration and social care services in promoting the wellbeing, the rights and ensuring social justice for families and communities. Moreover, these policies must be reflected on, in the delivery of social care services when working to tackle social problems in the UK. It ought to create a response to the creation of the welfare state and the social need of people within the society. However, there is a compact argument whether there are barriers in entailing all the necessary relations for the well-being of people, because the system may not fully ensure all the necessary needs of families are well responded to due to an overlap between the delivery of services and the government provision to these needs.
Social workers are employed by the government and work with a wide range of people, for example; children in care, families who need support, adolescents who are in trouble with the law, as well as adults who need assistance during their every day lives (NHS 2006). The aim of social work is to build a partnership whist providing practical support and emotional support to children and their families (Hall & Slembrouck, 2009). They exist to help people in need, however throughout the years barriers have formed that prevent successful relationships (Croft, Beresford, & Adshead, 2007).
Social services involve the family in the treatment and well-being of each resident. Nursing facilities have three types of services, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and long term care. Skilled nursing is for some sort of medical problem, rehabilitation is for patients, that need care because of injury, mostly, illness like pneumonia and long term care which is for residents that need constant care due to physical conditions or mental problems but usually it’s due to old age and having no one that can physically care for them. A lot of family members try to keep their parent or wife or husband at home, but it gets physically impossible as the family member also ages and can no longer take care of them.
