Behavior Change Plan Regina Martin This is a health behavioral change plan where I will prioritize the Seven Dimensions of Wellness as they rank in my current life and includes a rationale and details on why each category fell in particular spot when I rate it. The first dimension of health on my list is physical but it has an emotional component. I rated this on the top of my list because I have gained 26 pounds in about 3 years and 6-8 pounds have been in the past 6 months. I bought new jeans before Christmas and they no longer fit me. To give context to how I arrived here I had lost lots of weigh a few years ago but my brother died who is only 9 months older than me and more people followed along with other severe stressors. I have always have been interested in health and …show more content…
I researched this issue for an addictions project last semester and I’ve come to understand that food can actually activate our dopamine receptors. Furthermore, people often have emotional triggers for overeating. I think as a future health educator it’s really important to understand that distinction and be aware of the emotional causes for overeating and binge eating disorder. I rated emotional as number two on my list because it is emotions that are driving my overeating. It’s possible it should be number one considering since it’s the underlying cause the physical behavior I want to change. I am aware that it’s mostly anxiety that is making me overeat or aggravation by family. I’ll have work on find ways to deal with these stressors. I recently changed my study area due to lighting and other comfort issues. The biggest plus to where I was studying it that was quiet and private. What the change of area made me notice is that most of the time, when I start to have an uncomfortable emotion I literally whip open the refrigerator which is about four feet away from where I am studying. Previously I had to walk up steps to get to the kitchen which
In everyday life many people develop habits, but it is never too late to attempt to change that bad habit to live a healthier life. For this behavioral change project, I was asked to choose a health behavior that I would like to change for the better. So, I decided that I wanted to increase the amount of water I was consuming each day. The standard recommendation on how much water an individual should consume is about 64 ounces daily. However how much a person should drink is more individualized then one might assume. Therefore, for this particular project my goal was to at least consume 64 ounces of water daily as a baseline starting point. I also had to consider days when I worked out. So, I decided that I would attempt to increase that amount
degree of change by the end of this year and impact my dimensions of wellness for the better.
Nobody is perfect and everyone has the individual behavior needs to change or make it more positive. The habit that we want to change is sometimes the habits that hinder us. Some behaviors are not difficult to change such as putting shoes on the shelves instead of putting on the floor. But some behaviors are very difficult to change, especially addictive behaviors such as smoking cessation. Still, changing a habit in spite of smallness also needs much effort to overcome old habits and maintain new habits. The change of addictive behavior is even more difficult. In this Health Behavior Change Journal, I choose to change behavior of quitting smoking through significance of the smoke behavior, interventions to change way of thinking and perception
Over the course of my behavior change project, I ran into several obstacles and the outcome was not quite what I had expected. There ae a few things that I learned during this project from the outrageous cost of healthy food, to what I really struggle with in terms of heathy eating. I started with the intention of eating healthy, but towards the end of the first month, I realized just how costly that can be because I am but a poor college student on a tight budget and sadly I burned a lot of my food budget on fruits and veggies. That was quite an eye opener for me. I also learned that it was not always the content of my meals, but also the size. My wife is much smaller than me and I really started to watch how she eats as opposed to how I eat. Her serving sizes were always much smaller. This taught me a thing or two about what I should be putting on my plate. I also know now that pizza is literally my kryptonite. I know I am doing this BCP, I know I want to lose weight, I know that I want to be healthy, but when I get around pizza I am like a drug addict that can only focus on my drug (pizza). I need to format my lifestyle to stay away from pizza places as much as humanly possible because I will it until it hurts.
Annually half a million Ohioans Including children, working adults and seniors access mental health and addiction services through the state’s Medicaid program. (Wirtz, 2017) With the severe and pervasive opioid crisis and the rise in suicide Governor Kasich initiated comprehensive reforms to expand access to mental health and addiction treatment services in the State of Ohio. The actions taken during the Kasich Administration have stabilized the system and rebuilt the safety net, resulting in an increased number of individuals who are able to receive treatment and support for mental illness and substance abuse disorders. Ohio Medicaid will expand Medicaid rehabilitation options for individuals with the
Often in practice, we as nurses deal with a variety of diseases and treatments and often have to react to the illness that the patient presents with upon our interaction. While this is an essential piece of our practice, we also have a duty to our patients to be proactive in preventing specific health-related consequences based on their risk factors and to promote their health and well being. Health promotion as it relates to nursing is about us empowering our patients to increase their control over their lives and well beings and includes: focusing on their health not just illness, empowering our patients, recognizing that health involves many dimensions and is also effected by factors outside of their control (Whitehead et al. 2008)..
The health-related behavior that I chose to change was to increase my water intake. The first step that I undertook is that I purchased a water pitcher that can hold up to 33 oz. My goal was to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day which is about 2 liters. The model that I reflected on for the change was the ecological model because I thought that the health behavior fills in both intrapersonal and interpersonal level. For the personal level, I planned to keep a cup of water on my desk to sip on while I'm studying. I also added slices of lemon or orange to my water for a hint of flavor to motivate me to drink more. Another step that I undertook is that I used the water-logged phone application because I thought it is an easy way to track
The second illustration focused on primary, secondary and tertiary interventions using occupational health activities at a Japanese company for metabolic syndrome to determine changes in lifestyle. Their purpose was to devise the annual health promotion plan. Primary prevention included individual interview, occupational health education for groups of employees several times annually, and health consultations. Secondary prevention included post-screening referrals for those employees with abnormal findings, and tertiary prevention included visits to hospitalized employees and support for their returning to work. Ariyoshi et al. (2010) concluded, “Occupational health activities based on a health promotion philosophy and aimed at primary and secondary prevention are
Individual connections are expected to manufacture solid collaboration amongst organizations, however they additionally are not required to establish enduring participation and can possibly prompt a partition of the whole if the plan goes amiss. Honesty and trust is vital inside of individual connections, along these lines if anytime when endeavoring to establish participation inside of any stage and a bond is not picked up, a contention would endure and that would defeat the process before forward advancement could ever be
As an 18 year old, single, child free, debit free, young adult, I have yet to scratch the surface of my life. There are many things that I have yet to experience, and many other things I never want to experience. When given the challenge of creating a “Wellness Plan” my mind went blank, until I discovered the quote “The most important person to be honest with is you.” In this paper you will find me; the person I am, and strive to be each day.
When people are having psychological problems they often times turn to food for comfort and do not realize they have developed a food addiction until they start developing symptoms of high blood pressure, diabetes, or congestive heart failure. Some warning signs of an overeater may include eating uncontrollably, preoccupation with body weigh, depression and mood swings, and for women an irregular menstrual cycle. Recovering from compulsive overeating and losing weight are extremely is a difficult process and requires a long term
On individual level changes in health promotion and ecological approaches target and influence multiple health behaviors. This is because the individuals living in the environment are embedded in temporary change of behaviors. Therefore it is very important to consider ecological approaches, changing health behaviors and environmental factors while designing operational and supportable health promotion plans.
I felt that I’m out of control which I cannot stop eating or control how much I’m eating. Having difficulty coping with my feelings so I always overeat when I feel stressed, upset or angry. Thus, I find it soothing to eat and to suppress these emotions. Also, having low self-esteem can caused me to overeat.
The intervention we described in this paper is an integrative approach health intervention conducted for Chinese college students. The goals of this intervention are: 1. Evaluate the self-efficacy of condom use among college students in preventing abortions; 2. Creating effective messages to modify both target audience’s personal factors and environmental factors together to promote our recommended behavior: condom use based on SCT.
Today I will be discussing a job called health planners. Talking about the ups and downs. Some people go to university and study what they want to do without actually researching it.
