Heavy Airport Security Remember 9/11? That could have been prevented and more with heavy airport security. Attacks and illegal things could are other things that could be prevented as well. 9/11 was a very tragic day for many people. Many loved ones lost to a plane. The question is how? How did they take control with many people on a plane? If there was heavy security on the plane this would not have happened. Trained security would prevent people from making these types of moves like pulling out a gun or getting ready to fight. Next are airport attacks. Airport attacks for example shootings, and bombs are also preventable with heavy security. Metal detectors are way things like guns can’t pass through security. Security everywhere is another
Not everyone believes that everything happened quite like that, that it was all done by terrorists. Many people believe that 9/11 was an inside job, ordered by government officials. There is some evidence that this could have been possible. Later in the day, after the attacks had taken place and all the other flights were grounded, there was a search of all planes. While searching two of the planes, there were knife like objects found hidden in there. Nobody can be quite sure how the weapons got there, but it is widely believed that they were prepositioned by some accomplices of the 9/11 attack. (What Happened on 9/11?")
According to Jason Villemez of the PBS News Hour, there were immediate changes to airport security following 9/11. Within 2 months of the attacks, the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was passed. This law requires that every single bag is screened at airports andrequires that certain procedures are followed at every airport (Swickard). Before 9/11, scissors, baseball bats, darts, and 4-inch-long blades were allowed, but these are now illegal under the ATSA (O’Connor). The Aviation and Transportation Security Act also created the Transportation Security Administration known as the TSA (Tognotti). Each airport had to supply their own security before 9/11, but with the creation of the TSA, the government supplied security for airports (Villemez). Gabi Logan of USA Today found that the increase in security including baggage checks caused a six percent decrease in the number of passengers. Passengers chose not to travel at all or found a different way to get to their destination. While security in airports was significantly increased, 9/11 also affected millions of Americans involved in the war on terror”.
Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, airport security has received considerable attention from the government as well expect in the aviation industry. The damages that transpired following the attack have remained fresh in the minds of peace loving citizens. In fact, security has become everybody’s business because a security lapse in the aviation industry paralyzes various sector of the economy. Today, the government has encouraged redesigning of the airport with much consideration given to security. The new concerns in the wake of 9/11 terrorist attack propose integration of security into airport design and planning. Although the airports may not accommodate redesigning of the general layout, critics agree that an
“I'm confident air travel is still the safest method of transportation.” Said Chad Elwood pilot for southwest airline.
September 11, 2001 was an unforgettable day when many people lost there lives and sadly, airport security failed at three different airports. Airport security is a big deal all across the country and we depend on the use of the security for the safety of our own lives along with the others around us. There were many attacks throughout history that helped the airport to see what there weaknesses were, which helps strengthen their current security systems. 9/11 was a big impact on the world and caused grief to many families, but all that grief could have been avoided if they were caught in the airport! Airport security went from relaxed to strict very quickly. There were many changes in the security before 9/11, during 9/11, and after
First off the basic overview of 9/11. The day is September 11, 2001. Just a normal day to everyone. The world is at peace. 7:35: Atta and al-Omari board American Airlines Flight 11. Five minutes later the rest of the Flight 11 hijackers board the airplane. 7:59: Flight 11, carrying 81 passengers and 11 crew members, departs from Logan International Airport in Boston, its destination being Los Angeles International Airport in Los Angeles, California. 8:14: Flight 11 is hijacked when hijackers Waleed and Wail al-Shehri rise from seats 2A and 2B and stab two flight attendants. Atta rises from seat 8D and approaches the cockpit. Within minutes, he is at the controls. 8:14, United Airlines Flight 175, carrying 56 passengers and nine crew members, also departs from Logan International Airport in Boston; its destination was also Los Angeles International Airport. Five hijackers are aboard. 8:19, Betty Ong, a flight attendant on Flight 11 alerts
In our present times national security became a priority. According to Tricia Escobedo, the last year’s terrorist attack in Paris on the night of November 13th left 129 people dead and hundreds wounded. The perpetrators were a mix of French nationals, and Syrian refugees that migrate to Europe due to the current open door policy for asylum seekers (1). We have a problem because our southern border is an open door for foreign terrorist to enter our country, due to the fact that the many people cross illegally. According to Stephen Dinan, nearly 800,000 people arrived in the past two years (1). I am veteran of the United States Army that deployed many times to Afghanistan, I lived in what we call forward operating bases, this forward operating bases had a secure perimeter due to the presence of physical barrier in this case a wall, in order to protect the people inside, and this solution work because it keep any threats away. We had 100 percent control of the people entering the Forward Operating Base, this kind of control reduced drastically any possibility that a foreign terrorist could enter inside the base, and cause severe casualties between the civilian and military personnel.
The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2011 prompted the world to reevaluate and drastically modify airport and airline security. “Four targets had been chosen, all iconic American buildings that would send a clear message of the depth of their hatred for the United States. All four planes crashed, killing all on board—terrorists, crew members, and passengers, along with hundreds who were killed inside the structures, on the ground, and the men and women who ran into collapsing buildings in an effort to try and save others” (Smutz 1). As Jason Villemez said “the decade after the 9/11 attacks reshaped many facets of life in America” (Villemez 1). Before the attacks, people did not think that large
On September 11, 2001, terrorists initiated multiple attacks on America that took the lives of nearly three thousand innocent people. It was a day of destruction and horror that will be branded in the minds of many for a long time. The tragedies on 9/11 could have been avoided if airport security in the United States had been stricter. A strong foundation for Homeland Security is essential in protecting America from further attacks. In the essay
To begin with airport security has changed extremely since the September 11 attack. It was a normal day for New York City on September 11 when around 8:46 a.m. an United Airline Flight 11 crashed the north tower killing many people on board and in the building (A&E Television Networks). Then around 9:03 a.m. United Airlines Flight 175 crashed on the south tower also killing everyone on board and on the building and leaving many injured (A&E Television Networks). Many people lost family members and the attack left them missing their loved ones and till this day it still causes some effects. Ever since that day airport security has been much secured and the creation of Transportation Security Administration was made (Farecompare.com). TSA also known as
After the bombing in Oklahoma City, most of the federal buildings went into some type of lockdown going into the building and around the building which has probably cut down on some loss and injury. Otherwise all we can do is continue studying the problems and improve on our methods. Their is no magic wand to cure these acts of terrorism.
Airport Security is a necessity of Life both in America and through out the world. Without airport security our airports would not be able to function and terrorist attacks
. The protection of harden targets will take the collaborative afforded of federal, State, locate and tribal law enforcement. Target hardening will require ramping up personnel at location deemed vital, for example, Hoover Dam is a critical infrastructure and making attacks on the location difficult is an ideal goal. If a location is deemed essential protecting that facility is the ultimate plan, removing any unnecessary obstruction that maybe used as a hiding place, securing doors, windows, controlling entry points and exit points and elevators. When it comes to protecting the nation securing potential targets and making any plans to attack those hard target difficult. Attacks are more likely to be successful when potential hard targets are
The September 11th attacks have had a profound effect on American history. Often referred to as “9/11”, these attacks were comprised of a group of organized terrorists known as Al-Qaeda. This extreme Islamic group assaulted several landmarks in New York City, Washington D.C, and the state of Pennsylvania. In New York City, two airliner jets were hijacked with passengers aboard and slammed into the World Trade Center. “The next attack resulted in a plane colliding into the Pentagon, government building; the last attack was in Pennsylvania when a plane crashed into a field. In total, 3,000 people died on September 11th, 2001” (History.com Staff). The September 11th-attacks have affected airport security by the new training of flight attendants, the formation of the Transportation Security Administration and new technical advances to keep up with increased terror threats.
Airport security is necessary for the safety and efficiency of airlines today. Attacks involving airlines have been “among the deadliest in terms of human lives and economic impact,” even though relatively few attacks have occurred using airlines compared to other terrorism methods (Szyliowicz, 2011, p.2). Airport Security has been administered using a government-operated system since the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was enacted in 2001. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), now an agency of homeland security, replaced private security measures and personnel with at least 60,000 federal employees (Szyliowicz, 2011). However, privatization may be making a come-back. The following analysis will analyze
