Buying or Renting a Home in the Hell’s Kitchen Neighborhood of New York Hell’s Kitchen is a Manhattan neighborhood that has resisted the attempts by some to rebrand it as either Clinton or Midtown West. It is traditionally thought of as being bordered by Eighth Avenue on the east side, the Hudson river in the West, Fifty-ninth Street in the North, and Thirty-fourth street on the south side. It was originally a neighborhood for poor and lower middle-class Irish American immigrants. Over the years it has variously succumbed to and resisted efforts to gentrify it. It has also been known as the neighborhood of Broadway hopefuls, due to its lower rents and proximity to the theatre district. These days, the area is known for providing infrastructure
