Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in a place near Dearborn, Michigan. Over the years, he worked as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company in Detroit. His first developed/built form of transport was gasoline powered. He built a gasoline-powered horseless carriage called the Quadricycle, in the shed behind his home.

July 30th, 1863, William and Mary Ford, owners of one of the more substantial homesteads in Dearborn, Michigan, had their first surviving child named Henry. The son of a farmer, Ford has always been interested in how things worked. He has improved the models of his cars to make manufacturing them faster and more efficient by using assembly lines. He also set a balance between his employees’ wages and hours worked. Ford never stopped innovating and it is shown in his later Models of his car. Ford set standards for future motor companies and set standards for modern day manufacturing.

Ford was raised on a small farm ran by his father outside of Detroit (Mitchell,1). As a child Henry was very interested in machinery. He always wanted a simpler way to do everything. “His Father would go to town and ask the children what they wanted. At the age of 16, Ford left home to take on an apprenticeship as a machinist in Detroit. Here, he worked with steam engines and studied bookkeeping. Three years laters, Ford married Clara Bryant and returned to work on his family’s farm. Ford still operated steam engines and sometimes worked at Detroit facilities. In 1891, he was hired as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company, and soon after accepting the job, he was promoted to chief engineer.

Ford impacted todays life from what he did back in his prime by, his technological development and U.S. infrastructure. Ford became renowned for his revolutionary vision: the manufacture of an inexpensive automobile made by skilled workers who earn steady wages. In 1914, he sponsored the development of the moving assembly line technique of mass production. Simultaneously, he introduced the $5-per-day wage as a method of keeping the best workers loyal to his company. Simple to drive and cheap to repair, half of all cars in America in 1918 were Model T's.

The first automobile that was affordable to everyday American people did not come around till the 1920’s. That is when the Model T was born, this car had no frills, or special colors, but it got the job done. America fell in love with what the automobile added to their everyday life. Overall it is safe to say Henry Ford embodies success and has given the American Dream a new definition, he has truly inspired us all.
