When Ryan Manion Borek, Travis Manion’s sister, shared the captivating story of how the Hero’s Run was created, tears started to well up. After the catastrophic event of 9/11 Travis Manion was so touched by the firefighters, and everyone who risked their lives, that he had to go and talk to them. He just wanted to tell the firemen thank you but they ended up saying thank you to Travis for listening to their stories. Before Travis left for deployment, he told his family “if not me, then who”. This is so inspiring because not everyone has that courage or will that Travis had. While Travis was fighting for our country he was killed by an enemy sniper and was never able to come back home. He risked his life to save the lives of the other soldiers
In Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, William Butler Yeats’ “The Song of Wandering Aengus” and George Orwell’s 1984, each literature piece exemplifies all of the connections in Joseph Campbell’s 17 Stages of a Hero’s Journey in order to demonstrate the changes in the character’s development and the motivation behind their transformation.
This summer I was at the Ottawa County fair doing the off-road Derby. I wasn't sure about doing it at first, but my mom and dad said I would be fine.I got to choose what number I was and I got to choose what color it was too. In the end my mom and dad were right, it was fun and I got 3rd place for my first time. By doing the derby for the first time I showed Bravery. Bravery has risks and to other people they could be good risks and bad risks. The character’s Louie from the book Unbroken and the sniper from the short story “The Sniper” shows Bravery through the joining the war while trying to survive, and already being in the war while being prepared and trying to survive.
Some of the most horrific acts included innocent people being killed for helping the soldiers and children being tortured and murdered. While serving in Iraq, Chris lost two of his teammates who he also considered his best friends. Chris never questioned why or what he was doing fighting in Iraq. He continued to show tremendous bravery never letting fear overcome him or his actions. Because he was able to stay in control and focus on each task at hand he was able to perform bold and brave tasks, which protected the country he was loyal to and proud to be a part of.
When the thought of the tragic events of 9/11 comes to mind, most people think about death and despair. It takes a certain perspective to understand and appreciate another side of the events. Heroes, in their truest form, rose from the smoke of 9/11. From going the extra mile to save someone in worse condition than them, to aiding to the rescue and evacuation of Manhattan, all of the heroes on 9/11 did something that wasn’t required of them, something that they did selflessly, helping ones who, even in their own desperation, were worse off than themselves.
There are many stages of the hero’s journey that a hero has to face in order to achieve his goal. The first stage of the hero’s journey is the ordinary world, this allows us to get to know the hero and identify him before the journey begins. The second is the call to adventure this is when the hero is faced with a challenge that makes the hero have to leave the ordinary world to a special world to achieve his quest and to restore balance. Third is the refusal of the call this is when the hero decides if he should leave the safety of his boundaries to achieve his quest or not. Next is meeting the mentor the mentor is a person who provides lessons and training needed to achieve the goal. Crossing the threshold is where the hero must separate
In this project, our group of four was tasked to create a story following the Hero’s Journey monomyth in the format of a comic. The project we were assigned had these following requirements: ten steps of the journey, four archetypes, a five minute presentation, and a digital format of the project. The comic itself had to be divided into two pages per person with four panels per page. The story took a sci-fi setting with the monomyth pattern and was focused around the big ideas and themes we discussed in class regarding the steps of the journey.

The Stages of the Hero’s Journey was to indicate how in every movie or story the hero goes through 12 stages to achieve their goal. The first stage the hero has to go through is, The Ordinary World, where the narrator describes the hero’s home in order for the reader to relate to the hero. In this stage there is always an action that disrupts the Hero’s world and leads to the next stage, The Call to Adventure. In the call to adventure stage, is when the hero is notified of the problem that has disrupted his world and this will be life changing. The hero needs to choose between accepting this call or to leave the situation. The third stage is Refusal of the Call, when the hero refuses the journey due to fear and insecurities. The hero is not
The stages of the Hero’s Journey givens insight on how stories are structured in 12 stages. Every story is unique in its own way. To begin with, The Ordinary World helps the reader experience what the hero is seeing, feeling and doing described in words. Every story has a problem to solve that disrupts the Ordinary World. The Ordinary World is known as the safe place for the hero. Next, the hero enters the stage known at “The Call to Adventure”. The Call to Adventure is what disrupts the Ordinary World by making the hero uncomfortable with certain obstacles he or she must face in the story. The hero must then decide on how to solve the issue that he or she is facing at that moment. The third stage is called, “Refusal of the Call”. This stage
In “The Hero with a Thousand Faces,” Joseph Campbell dives into his theory that every culture’s myths share a sense of universality. In other words, all the myths of each culture stem from a common ancestor, or “idea.” Campbell shows a very headstrong opinion on his theory, as if it is a universal truth that cannot be altered because this theme “will always be the one, shape-shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find.” His use of the word “shape-shifting” insinuates that these myths are different but simply changing slight form from the “original,” which is not an actual myth but a collection of similar myths. The prologue lays out a
A hero will do whatever it takes to make sure that everybody is safe. This is the case in the story about U.S veteran Dennis Weichel. Dennis Weichel died trying to save an Afghanistan girl from being run over by a MRAP ( Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle). An article was made about this incident on website abcnews.go.com where it stated, “ Weichel spotted the girl and quickly moved toward her to get her out of the way. He succeeded, but not before he was run over by the heavily armored truck. The girl was safe, but Weichel later died of his injuries. He had arrived in Afghanistan a few weeks ago and had been a member of the Rhode Island National Guard since 2001.” This illustrates that Dennis went with his gut feeling and pushed the girl out of the way only to be killed in the process. His actions show how heroes will always do what it takes to make sure that everybody is safe. Heroes will always find ways to make the world a better

The Grand Canyon is an American icon. It formed by years of down cutting by the Colorado river, and it is the most impressive physical feature in all of North America. In the book the Emerald Mile, Kevin Fedarko writes about the fastest trip ever recorded down the Grand Canyon in a watercraft. Throughout the book, it shows the creation of the Glen Canyon Dam and how the creation of this dam puts a hold on the runaway Colorado River, and make the speed run down the Canyon possible. Although this book was about adventure down the Grand Canyon, I did not find it to be particularly gripping like I had hoped it would be.
