Preparing high school students for college is every parent and teachers goal but sometimes that goal is hard to achieve. Students are not getting a proper education now-a-days and they do not realize that it is going to hurt them after they graduate. A study says, “That composite score dropped to 20.9 among high school students in 2013, the lowest in eight years” (Adams, 2013). That is a very low average and it is because what students are learning in high school just isn’t sticking with them through college. After students graduate they start taking harder classes, some have to start paying their own bills, and so many other changes they are not ready for. It is a big jump to go from high school to college and I think schools can do a better job of preparing students. It is their experience and education in high school that is going to help them in college. If they are not ready they are going to struggle which will result in some not so good outcomes such as having low grades or even worse dropping out. I do not believe that high school education has prepared students for college because there are many useless classes, it is more about memorizing than learning, and students drop out in a year or less because of the workload.

Alyssa Pracz, a journalist at Northern Star, makes the point that “[p]rofessors, however, tend to teach the material as if everyone taking the class is planning on majoring in the subject” when, in reality, students just see the class as another general education course. Additionally, students struggle in some of the subjects which have nothing to do with their particular majors. Pracz also states, “As a result, many students' grades suffer, sometimes to the point of lowering their grade point averages so much that they are unable to get into the major they planned on pursuing”. Ultimately, if a student has a huge passion and dream for his life, and cannot pass a certain general education course then his whole future is foiled. General education classes are redundant and do not aid the student whatsoever in cultivating skills required for his future job. Colleges and universities think general education courses are helping students when they actually are hurting them.

After graduating high school, no one prepares you for college. Most kids when they are finished with high school don’t even fantasize about going back to school. I have always wanted to go to college ever since I was a young kid. I also had dreams of myself going to college, but in my dreams, everything was picture perfect. In reality, college has been very challenging for me. No one tells you about the adjustments and complications that you would have to face to become a successful college student.

Responsibility has a lot to do when it comes to high school and college. When you attend high school you are provided textbooks for each class. Your time is usually structured by others (parents and/or teachers). Many parents are there to wake you up in the morning before school starts. In high school you are required to go to school everyday. You often read or hear presentations once in order to learn what you need to know. Students are expected to read short stories at home which will be re-taught in class. When in college you must pay for each textbook necessary for class.

Students will be going to college soon, and it will be a whole new world. Upcoming freshman will see new faces, personalities, and looks all in the same place. High school has cliques; however, a college has more. Most students are grouped into cliques because they have similar personalities and backgrounds, so it makes them feel at home. A college has a massive variety of cliques; the most famous are frat, sorority, athletes, and honor.

High school teachers have a reputation to be more lenient to their students. On the other hand, a college professor will rarely listen to excuses or withhold the consequences of failure. Students know what they signed up for when applying for college courses and college professors treat them as such. At the same time, college professors are people just like high school teachers and understand that life happens sometimes. This is why it is important for teachers and professors alike to work with their students as much as possible for solutions to the

I am sure a lot of people know that high school and college have some similarities and differences, but a lot more differences. College can be a very exciting experience but nerve wracking at the same time. Most people go to highschool or college or both. Education is very important in high school and college because most jobs want to see a high school diploma and/or a degree of some kind. College and high school have very different forms of education, but they both have the same result. They both want to get students further in education and get students farther to want they want to do when they get older.
