When you’re young, there’s little that surpasses the love of a boy and his bike. From the first time experiencing the freedom of pedal-powered independence to exploring the mysteries of your neighborhood, there’s nothing else like it. It’s pure, unadulterated freedom of exploration — a feeling that Jimmy Hallyburton has managed to carry with him since the first time his sneaker hit pedal.
Firstly, McGrath defends the argument that football does not have a future. After introducing his topic with a story of his first football game and first favorite player, he uses this to present this question, “Was Ironhead a role model for a sport with no future?” This question introduces the topic and also sets the mood for the duration of the article. He gives several examples of football players with traces of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (C.T.E.) in their brains. This condition is what results from a person who has had a multitude of concussions or

Walter Payton, running back for the dominant 1985 Chicago Bears team that went 15-1 and won the Superbowl, is one of the best running backs in NFL history. Walter Payton was also known for his philanthropy off the field, earning him the nickname “Sweetness”. There is now an award given out every year called the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which recognizes players for their charitable contributions off the field as well as their excellence on the field. The last recipient of this award was Thomas Davis, a Carolina Panthers linebacker. Walter “Sweetness” Payton died in 1999 of cancer. He was one of the most influential athletes in history, not just due to his ability on the field, but also because of his persona. Stats, influence on the game, and persona off the field are how a player’s influence should be measured. The three most influential quarterbacks of the last twenty five years of the twentieth century are Warren Moon, Joe Montana, and Jim Kelly.

Nick Carraway is the only character worth knowing in The Great Gatsby. He is living in East Egg with the rich and powerful people. He is on the guest lists to all of their parties and yet he is the person most worthy of attending such parties because he is well bread and his family is certainly not poor. “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” (Ch1, P1). These words were taught to Nick by his father showing the qualities that a man with goals and values would have in a place where goals and values was no existent. His Judgmental eye for character and guts of using them when desired makes him more interesting. He has a greatest fear that he will be

In order to truly appreciate the overall beneficial influence football has had on American culture between the 1890’s and 1930’s, we cannot turn a blind eye to the negative obstacles football has overcome. In the early years of development, football was played similarly to rugby and universities played by different rules, making standardization within the sport a difficult task to accomplish. One of the major problems observed during the infancy of football was the sheer violence witnessed on the field. Mass play was the common play style during the first years of football in which the entire offensive force would focus on one spot of the defense; the offense was determined to go through the defense rather than go around them. The raw power behind these plays lead to serious injuries as well as the death of a player in the early 1900’s. This disastrous event deterred numerous universities from playing football out of fear of a repeat of events. Following more serious injuries

I was eleven years old when it happened. My family and I lived in Mexico City and like always we ended the day after dinner as everyone retired to bed. I was woken up at around 7:30 in the morning to the noise from all around the neighborhood. Everyone in the house was screaming for help. I remember my mom frantically running to my room to rescue me. In a second, the house I called home was now bending like a tree that had been made unstable by heavy rain. It was cold, and I did not have warm clothing on but we had to stand and watch from outside. I was terrified when I heard screams from the neighbor’s house. Her house had sunken completely leaving her two children that were younger than
