Week #6 DB No ideas! No organization! Are some of many things that ran through my mind when I write, especially when I write about topics that I am not intersted in or topics that I have no prior knowledge on. One reason I hate writing is because of my language barrier and my lack of experiences, therfore when I am forced to to wite about an unintersteing subject the process of generating ideas becomes boring, long, and dreadful. It all started when my 5th grade teacher asked us to write a book review on the book “ Holes” by Louis Sachar. This assignment was the most diffcult writing assignment because the book was boring, i did not find anything in the book that interset me and no matter how hard I tried their was no text- to-self connection. Another reason why I hated this assignment was I was required to include quotes from the reading to support my answers, however I it was diffcult because I did not have the answers to the questions. I took the time out to …show more content…
Once I started my personal statement I knew that I was able to write my ideas with my eyes close. I was able to dtermine my career path and how I can put my thoughts and feelings on paper. My personal statement included specfic details of my life span that I thought was an accomplishment, or achievement as a way to grab the readers attention. Upon sumbitting the final results of my personal statement, I was accepted to the college of my choice which was SUNY Old Westbury. This accomlishment really meant a lot to me because to see from where I came from and gradually developing my skills allowed me to give myself another chance. My experience producing my personal statement inspired me to keep a journal of my life events and have a totally new perspective on
Over this quarter of English, I have learned many things out of the three to four essays that we have written. I have learned how to write college papers in the appropriate page requirements. Our teacher noticed after the first two essays we wrote that we suffered from sentence fragments, sentence run ons, and comma splices. I have learned how to fix those errors in my papers that I write. A thing I have learned about myself as a writer is that I write very well when a paper is about my personal life because it is easier to write about yourself than about a topic that you are just researching for the first time. If the paper is about my life experiences, I would get a good grade on it.

Have you ever been falsely accused of something you didn't do? Well, this happens in the realistic fiction book, Holes by Louis Sachar. I strongly believe that you should read this well developed book, for it has fascinating characters, the great message, and the astounding plot. The 14 year old and main protagonist of the story named Stanley Yelnats goes through a series of unfortunate events that leads him into an abusive camp. He is overweight, lonely in school, and gets bullied frequently. In the camp, the requirement every day is to dig a hole five feet deep, and five feet across in every direction. Because of the many kids in the camp, the landscape is full of holes, and looks dry and beat up. Stanley eventually finds out there is more
The main character's name is Stanley Yelnats. At first, you see stanley as an alright kid who has made a bad decision stealing. “ I stole some sneakers” (pg 22). Throughout the rest of the story you find that stanley is nice and always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. “He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time all thanks to his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather” (Pg 7). At school before camp Green Lake he was bullied and treated bad. “he didn’t have any friends at home, he was overweight” (pg 7). At camp Green Lake Stanley made a new friend, his best friend “Zero”. He get’s along great with Zero and teaches him how to read. “I’ll try
Finding your own writing process is crucial for a writer in order to write a successful paper. Everyone is unique and everyone’s writing process is going to be unique as well. A writer’s notebook is a perfect way for people to record random thoughts, dialogue you hear, and any other ideas you might hear. Brainstorming is a key technique to get started when composing a paper. Brainstorming allows you to think of different topics that would fulfill the requirements needed on your topic assigned. Freewriting, clustering, listing and outlining, and collaborating are also some other techniques that when practiced could come very useful when writing a paper. Having the ability to use either of these five techniques would help tremendously when composing a paper.
When I write about anything I usually just write until I can't write anymore I like to use the method used in Finding Forrester. When I write its probably about something that I know enough about, to do so, my organization comes from how I present my ideas. brainstorming is a big part of how I want to set up my paper and or assignment. I like to write about things I find passion in for example the failed war on drugs and the over surveillance perpetuated by our own government and of course the down trodden individuals that need our help. If I were write a paper on those particular subjects I would first set up a model in my mind; and start off with a philosophical approach on the government's various method’s of prying into the common mans
Stanley Yelnats has a tough heart with Zero. Stanley becomes responsible for others, and brave for himself. Since Stanley has no siblings, nor any friends he doesn't have anyone to take responsibility. Although, he would face anything to help Zero and show bravery.

I remember like it was yesterday, my cousin and I was riding in the car with my uncle on our way to the movies, extremely excited to see the newest Disney movie, Holes. We had been watching previews and trailers for weeks, and it turned out to be just as good as we had imagined. It ended up being one of my favorite films of all time. I watched it multiple times when it started to come on television. I bought the DVD and then when I was 10 or 11 in the 5th grade I discovered there was a book. I always had problems when it came to reading, and in 5th grade, all the teachers came together and presented to the entire 5th grade class a time during the day called DEAR. DEAR is an acronym that stands for “Drop Everything and Read”. I had problems when it came to reading. Not because it was hard, but because I was lazy.
Holes is a book written by Louis Sachar, it is an adventure book that takes place at the hot and dry camp green lake. Once the largest inland lake in Texas it is a desert wasteland that hasn’t had a drop of rain in one hundred years.
I experienced the same struggle in writing this book, even though that little voice inside my head was now telling me to write, I was speechless, sitting and pondering for days on end at my computer, muddling through the pieces of unsatisfied expressions. It was frustrating to say the least. I expected some difficulty, however, not like this.
Countless children’s literature books are published yearly but few stand out like Holes by Louis Sachar. In 1998 Holes won the Newberry Award. Holes is a unique and dynamic piece of children’s literature. Louis Sachar creates a staggering tale of adventure, mystery and destiny that can be enjoyed by all. Sachar employs a very unique style of writing into Holes. He intertwines various stories with depth and meaning. Holes, although characterized as “children’s literature” is not a book limited to only children. Readers of all ages can find meaning and wisdom in Sachar’s tale. Holes is one of Sachar’s most well-known works of literature and for good reasons.
“Act as if you 're a writer. Sit down and begin” (Dani Shapiro). Sitting down may be even harder than beginning. I would much rather pace back and forth, whether in thought or on foot. I do what I can to actively forget and to push the knowledge of needing to begin out of the comfortable home I’ve created in my mind. I could give you a page of scratched beginnings, no, I could give you much more than a mere page of scratched beginnings. My entire life seems to be an intermingling of scratched beginnings, and throughout my writing, I have struggled most with creating an outline. I just cannot seem to force myself to put ideas on paper with or without utilizing them in an essay and consequently, I have failed to submit an outline for every major essay during this semester except for the Narrative Essay, and that outline was less than subpar.
My 6th grade year began at Fulton Leadership Academy in East Point Georgia, with it being a new school I went in to the year thinking “this year will be a breeze”, but little did I know the hills and valleys that were destined for me to rise ,but also fall. My Teacher’s name was Ms.Hicks, she was a nice lady but she was all about business. She loved to read, no matter what genre. The expectation from the beginning of the year was made clear that we will be reading stories and writing about them all year and that we will master writing about the novels we havve read.. The year went by day by day till I was assigned my first paper. Of course I can write, but I could never write in the right context or format. I began writing the assignment, and could not figure out why my mind could not reproduce the
Have you ever been told to write a paper over something and despised the topic? I have and it happens every year. Never fails my teachers look at me and inform me that I have to write another paper over something that would give anyone a hard time to write about. Unless you are one of those kids who look at something and understand exactly what is happening without even having to pay attention in class. It baffles me how it happens. How can one person understand how to do something without paying attention to the instructor? I was told to write a descriptive essay. So I have decided to write about how much I dislike writing papers without a prompt or something to help guide my thoughts. Now that I am done rambling about this paper, here goes nothing.
