Captain Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) is a firefighter in Albany, Georgia and firmly keeps the most important rule of all firemen, "Never leave your partner behind". But Caleb's home life is a completely different story; his seven-year marriage to his wife Catherine (Erin Bethea) is almost at the point of explosive destruction. Neither one understands the pressures the other faces, and after a heated argument in which Caleb screams in Catherine's face, she declares she wants out of the marriage, and takes off her wedding ring.
While Caleb claims to his friends and co-workers that Catherine is over-sensitive and disrespectful, Catherine (at the same time) claims to her peers that Caleb is insensitive to her needs and doesn't listen to her. Further

(Also, in a deleted scene, Catherine discovers Gavin flirting with a nurse shortly after learning of Caleb's payment for the hospital
The culture of set societal rules and conventions urges Catherine to be with Edgar, compelling her to be ‘the greatest woman of the neighbourhood’ due to them being relatively firm in their gentry’s status. This suggests the importance of her social status against the nature of her love for Heathcliff stating, ‘we would be beggars’, through employing the word ‘beggars’ the reader crafts the idea of her belief that she won’t survive without her status. Catherine admits ‘It would degrade me to marry Heathcliff now; so he shall never know how I love him’ Thus implying a swelling sense of her vanity and pride; enough to enjoy the position she gains from being married to Edgar despite her admiration for Heathcliff, being ‘more than (herself) than (she is)’and
Catherine reveals to him that she found the Love Dare and will need time to forgive him after he apologizes for his wrong behavior. Caleb shows kenosis in his line of work, by laying down his life for a stranger, an act of complete selflessness, and shows it in his marriage as well. After his transformation, he gives up his life savings of $24,000 for medical equipment that is needed after Catherin’s mother suffers a stroke. This strikes a chord with Catherine and she is moved to tears by his act of selflessness.

However, when she is confronted with letting her "friend" Kristi find out about Jason, Catherine hesitates. She keeps her secret, is not seen with Jason in front of Kristi, and hesitates involving Kristi in anything involving Catherine and Jason. When Jason learns about a dance that Catherine is not going to, he basically tells her that her rule not to dance in public is stupid. Ultimately, Catherine overcomes her concern for what Kristi thinks, and Catherine and Jason dance all night.
The Bratayley family is obviously overwhelmed with grief, but they did share a video of Caleb the day before his death to remember the gentle soul. Caleb appears completely healthy, but looking a little tired, as he sits eating breakfast with his sisters. Without hearing the tragic news, it would be a simple day with the video camera rolling at the Bratayley household.

one reason why Catherine changed was due to the fact that she had the courage .Her situation was miserable, filled with suitors. Therefore, she realized how others in similar situations felt. For example, Catherine saw a poor ant hauling a heavy crumb to its home. Any time, though, it would get trampled by the noisy villagers.
In the film, Caleb Trask is depicted very closely to the his character in the novel. Caleb is misunderstood and craves for his father's attention. He goes through all sorts of means to get his father’s attention and love. His intentions become overlooked and deemed as horrific acts. When Cal learns about his mother, he is even more terrified of the darkness he is capable of. He genuinely worries that he may have inherited the permanent evil from his mother. The film skillfully captures Cal’s struggle to find his own direction in life, away from the
The structure of the novel, Homegoing, is very distinct and unique. I believe the way Yaa Gyasi decided to structure her book made the novel and each individual story within the novel more profound. Most books we read today usually follow the main character or possibly a few characters. I cannot remember the last time I read a book where each individual chapter contained a new story from a new character. Homegoing is set apart from other novels due to the dramatic effect the generational stories have on the readers. Not only does the structure of the novel grab readers attention, it makes a distinction between the two lines of families, it also shows us what is similar between the two families, and it connects the past to the present.
I liked Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home. However, I did not love it. I have read many graphic novels and this is somewhere in the middle, which isn’t bad. Some may think that comparing this work to other works of the same medium is not fair, but I think it is. Let me start off by saying that I love graphic novels and comic books. I think that a work is already a billion times better by just being a graphic novel. It is a medium that still seems so fresh to this day. Every time I read a good one, it makes me wish I read more of them. To me, already the fact that Fun Home is a graphic novel gives it a leg up.
What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate” (ESV). Caleb and Catherine did not have a biblical view of marriage, which had a negative effect on their communication. One of the major character flaws in the Holts was the fact they did not understand how to communicate effectively with one another. Caleb was verbally aggressive towards his wife, especially when he called
Catherine felt that she could never relate to the environment because she felt she was a totally diverse from the environment. She was not a person that could speak for herself. Claire helped her sister after her father’s passing to try to get her back into the environment that remained absent to Catherine for so long. Catherine was a very shy person. There is an extreme disconnection of who Catherine is and what she presents herself to others. When Hal noticed she had a lot of math books in her room she told him they were just a window dressing. The disengagement between who she is and what she presents herself to other people is an inability to effectively communicate. Catherine gave Hal an extremely complicated proof which was her
I just want to say first, that I fell in love with the movie fireproof, it was so inspiring and moving. What I noticed about the communication between Caleb and Kathrine was that there was no communication between them, and when they did talk to each other it was yelling and screaming. They were being negative towards everything about each other. When they tried to communicate they would say things just to hurt each other to get a reaction from each other, and it continued this way until Caleb got the love dare from this father. As Caleb was going through the first couple of days he was just doing it to get the days gone. But as it got to the double digits in the love challenge he started to put huis whole heart and soul in it because he was
Now he has made her look like a fool, which causes her to be indifferent to him for the remainder of their acquaintance. "If I could not be persuaded into doing what I thought wrong, I never will be tricked into it." So when asked again to take a ride with John, Catherine responds "If I am wrong, I am doing what I believe to be right." The sternness in her ability to make the right choices for herself is now solidified. She no longer needs to pacify others wants or requests. Through experience, Catherine is growing out of her innocence and naivety.
