There are many historical sites in Albany, Georgia. When visiting the city, you may be wondering where to start. Well, why not start at the welcome center? If you're a history buff, there's no better place to begin learning about the history of Albany. Albany's welcome center began its life as a bridge house. Nelson Tift, the founder of Albany, commissioned construction of the house along with a new bridge. The new bridge, built in 1858, was to serve as a gateway to the city along with providing extra revenue from tolls collected at the house. At Tift's request, an African-American slave and architect oversaw completion of the project. His name was Horace King. Horace King was born into slavery in 1807. He would go on to build his first bridge
Horace Verbermockle was pronounced dead as the result of a fracture at the rear end of his skull. The real question is what happened to him? Minnie Verbormockle said his husband fell and he was lying unconscious on the bathroom floor. She thought he must have been taking a shower and slipped on a cake of soap. She did not move him. She threw a blanket over him and called the doctor immediately. Based on the evidence provided, it is clear that Horace Verbermockle was killed by his wife Minnie Verbormockle.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15 , 1929 and died on April 4, 1968. He was born Michael Luther King Jr. but decided to change his name to Martin. Both Martin Luther’s grandfather and father were pastors of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Martin Luther carried on the tradition and served as pastor from 1960-1968 (Nobel Prize, 1). He was born as a slave, and he defied so many odds such that in the end he was one of the richest and respected freed slaves. His story was inspiration to the blacks, in that it encouraged them to dream bigger despite the many challenges imposed on them.

Horace Julian Bond was born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1940, he moved to Pennsylvania with his family at 5 years of age in 1945, when his father, Horace Bond, transformed into the principle African-American pioneer of Lincoln University. Exactly when Julian was 17, the family returned toward the South, where Horace Julian Bond filled in as the dignitary of preparing at Atlanta University. As an understudy at Morehouse College, Julian set up an insightful magazine called The Pegasus. He was one of the few people that help set up the magazine. He was also an intern for Time Magazine. While at Morehouse College he helped organize the committee on Appeal for Human Rights. The civil rights organization had various violent free protests that helped lead to the integration of Atlanta’s theaters, parks , and lunch counters.
Charles “Chick” King was born on November 10th, 1930, in Paris, Tennessee. He lived in Paris most of his life until he was drafted to the Major League Baseball Association in 1951. He played for 11 years. Chick’s sport career started at Grove High School where he was an all- round athlete. He played football from 1947 to 1949 as well as ran track and played basketball. He was named to the all- state. He was also named to the all- county basketball team. After winning awards and playing greatly at Grove, he decided to attend the University of Memphis. He ran track at Memphis but mostly enjoyed the great game of baseball. That’s when he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1951.
Edmund Randolph was born on the tenth of August in 1753, Williamsburg, Virginia. He had gone to the College of William and Mary to study law. As a son of John Randolph, Edmund had disagreements with his father’s political views because John was a Loyalist to Lord Dunmore, ruled England in 1775. At a young age, Edmund worked as a aide-de-camp, a subordinate officer acting as a confidential assistant to a superior, to General Washington. Additionally, Edmund Randolph was at the age of twenty-three when he attended the convention. In 1787, he had introduced the Virginia Plan to help develop a new government. Peter was born on Febuary 12, 1790. Peter was a fur trader and an explorer. He was the son of Justice Isaac Ogden. Peter was born in Quebec Canada. He was married twice. He married two Native American women both times he's been married. He even learned how to speak their language. During his lifetime he mostley spoke in French. People voted for Peter to be the leader of Snake River County. Peter came to Utah in 1824 and stayed here for a while, but after his traveling in different states and places, he never came back to Utah. Peter was also part of the Hudson's Bay company. His parents were loyalists. They fled to Canada form New York. People caled Peter the chief trader, and he was also a mountain

Horace Mann was a kid who was born into poverty in Franklin, Massachusetts. He would always go down to the library to study and learn. He taught himself. The library was his home away from home. He practically lived there. Horace would read stories beyond his wildest dreams and all the facts and information he needed. He loved them. Horace was hooked. Since he was born into poverty he wanted to turn his life around. Horace was determined to make sure everyone gets the education that he would have liked, he wanted to help.
