Everyone absolutely adores the smell, taste, and the mere thought of when it comes to consuming food. In the United States, an abundance of food supply has affected and caused the increasing weight gain of all people, especially children leading to serious health and emotional problems today. The article “How America’s Children Packed on the Pounds,” by Jeffrey Kluger, gives insight to why this is a problem and the hasty need to be solved now for future generations.

The history of our nation was founded by the colonists who brought Old World crops to the New World constructing our diet today. Consequently creating our country to be overweight due to surplus. Schools come into the picture as it shows the amount of homework does not let the children go outside and get any exercise. For the older kids there is ways that the kids do not have to take physical education opting out with a waiver. The home of the average student has so many electronic devices “that children who come home after a largely sedentary day at a school desk spend an average or three more sedentary hours in front of some kind of screen” (Kluger).

The governments have tried to get involved, but their attempts have failed in the long run, trying to strive to get kids to eat better because of funding. All were of good intentions, but there needs to be a program that is going to last is the issue now. Since the world is all technological, the kids by watching someone who is important to them on the television getting kids to see the importance of their health. Since funding is a problem, there should be groups getting together to try to solve it and come up with a solution as this will lead to a long lasting effect on all who are involved. This is not a hopeless cause as “a study of 8,165 children, which showed that for the first in decades, the increase in U.S. childhood obesity has leveled off” (Kluger).
