Basketball
Bump bump bump. Sweat drops from my brow 70- 70 on the free throw line for the win. It is up and good. Special moments like this is why basketball is so great. Basketball is a young and expanding sport, with a unique beginning, that is enjoyed by millions everyday.
Basketball was founded by Dr. James Naismith. It all started in a small-town YMCA gym in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Naismith was challenged to create a new game that could be played indoors in the cold Massachusetts winters to provide an athletic distraction to an overall disruptive group of students. Naismith was inspired by a game he had played as a child called “duck on a rock,” in which players lobbed a small rock at a "duck" placed on top of a large rock in an attempt to knock the "duck" off. Using a soccer ball, two peach baskets placed 10 feet up in the air, nine players on each team, and a set of 13 basic rules, Dr. Naismith invented the game of basketball. The first game was played on December 21, 1891. One of the rules that defers from now is that originally the ball could only be moved forward by passing there was no such thing as what is now called “dribbling”. When the game was invented they used baskets as the rims (hence the name basketball). The original rules also had nine players on each team and because there was no such thing as a basketball they used a soccer ball. Dribbling was added in 1892 and most people
During the winter of 1892 in a town in Massachusetts a physical education teacher, Dr. James Naismith, at a YMCA school created a game where young men could play indoors aside from going outside in the freezing cold. To be prepared for the game, Dr. Naismith came up with some rules for the game, gathered two peach baskets for hoops, a soccer ball, and coached the first basketball game in history.
When basketball was first created , there were unlimited players allowed on the court and present day there are only five players per team allowed on the court. Also, the players used a peach basket to shoot a soccer ball into , and present day they use a metal rim with a next and a glass backboard.
Basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1839. The objective was to throw the basketball into fruit baskets strapped to the railing of the gym balcony. As you can see the game of basketball has changed tons over the years and continues to grow.
Basketball was originally about throwing a large ball into a peach basket hung up on the wall, making that the biggest variation of the game since its conception in 1891.
Basketball started in 1891. It has now grown into one of the most popular sports in history. Basketball was invented in December 1891 by Canadian James W. Naismith. An instructor at the YMCA Training School in Massachusetts, he sought a suitable indoor game to keep his students fit and warm during the cold New England winters. With wire mesh backboards. He formulated 13 rules, most of which still apply today. In 1893, the first women’s game was played at the Smith College, in Northampton, Massachusetts, USA. And soon to spread all over the world.
The game much of the world knows today as basketball has been played for years upon years. Ranging from small gym class games to the Olympic Summer games, the game has been played all over the world and has become a major part of some people's lives. It was invented by a great man named James Naismith. He created basketball and gave it the push it needed to become one of the biggest games the world holds dear today. James was Born on November 6, 1861 in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. His parents were John Naismith and Margaret Young. He attended grade school at Bennie's Corner just outside of Almonte in 1867. He finished his schooling in 1875. Sadly, two years before he was finished with his schooling his parents died as well as his grandmother. He Entered Almonte High School in 1875 and left the school
Basketball has always been something I loved ever since I was a little girl. I remember when I was younger, we had a basketball hoop in my driveway and my brothers and I would always go out and play one on one or horse. I also remember losing, a lot. Although it wasn’t about winning or losing for me, I just loved the game. In fourth grade, I started playing competitive basketball and loved the sport even more. Maybe it was scoring points or getting an assist, I’m not really sure the reason, I just knew I loved the game. As I got older my love for the game only grew; until high school hit.
Basketball had its humble beginnings in the YMCA, founded by a 30-year old instructor named James Naismith. Naismith was tasked to come up with an activity that could be played indoors during the winter months, and was only given fourteen days to do so. He tried indoor versions of other sports such as soccer, football, and even lacrosse but they all failed for they were too violent and windows end up broken most of the time. Naismith set out
I believe that basketball is the best sport. First because I enjoy watching the Chicago Bulls. Second it is great exercise. Lastly, it is so competitive and intense.
One day a man named James Nasmith decided to make a game. He made the game because he lived in Springfield, Massachusetts Which was very cold and snowy and his students wanted something to do. So he told the janitor to go get some boxes. When the janitor cold not find any he got some peach baskets with he nailed to a balcony. Because of that on 1891 Basketball was invented.
He thought of old childhood games, such as duck on a rock. The goal was to throw a stone at the “duck” (rock) and try to knock it over first. Then, he got an idea. At this point, there were only two days left to finish making up this sport, so he didn’t have enough time to come up with new equipment. He needed a goal and a ball. For the goal, he decided to use a peach basket. At that time, he just decided to use a soccer ball to throw in the peach baskets. He set up the peach baskets and explained the rules. Soon, the gym was full of people watching, and playing. Everyone was having a great time. Basketball was invented on December 21, 1891, when James was at the age of thirty. Then, teams started forming around town. Women started playing. Then, it started to become a popular sport throughout America. A few years after, basketball started evolving. The baskets were now made of rope. The backboard was added.
He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou).
Naismith moved in with his Uncle Pete Young. James Naismith went to a spring field YMCA conference and there they ask him to invent a sport that people can during the cold season. So he finally thought of using a basket to through a ball into it and he called it basketball.
The game of basketball was invented by Dr. James Naismith. Naismith, a P.E. teacher from Canada, invented the game in 1891. At the time James Naismith as working at the YMCA Training School in Massachusetts ("Who Invented"). Wyckoff implies that James was great at teaching summer sports, but when winter came, there was a problem. The men at the college were
In my free time, I enjoy a plethora of activities but I have come to the conclusion
