You need to have an attitude of thankfulness all day, every day.
If you can 't find something to be grateful for, you are not trying. It 's pathetic that we dedicate only one day a year for thanksgiving. It should be something you practice every single day.
When you are not grateful, you take everything you have for granted. Suddenly, your life is not as exciting or special anymore. To keep yourself up and in a state of positivity, be thankful for what you have now and stop thinking about what you don 't have.
3. Stop holding grudges.
Holding grudges is a sure way of making sure that you keep that negativity that comes from depression. You need to practice forgiveness. It doesn 't matter what they did to you.
I am sorry to tell you this but if you keep thinking of what they did to you, it will just put you deeper in depression and negativity.
4. Take "positive" pills.
I 'm not talking about prescription medicine. But if you want to learn how to overcome depression, you need to be either reading or listening to positive books or messages.
The easiest way to do this is to simply download an audio series or self-help book to your portable player and listen on the way to work and back or whenever you are driving.
5. Birds of a feather flock together.
Surround yourself with positive people. Stop hanging around the nay sayers, mean, rude, ungrateful, always complaining people.

No two people are affected by depression in the same exact way so there are many options that may potentially work for one person and may not for another. Treatment for major depression usually is a combination of many treatments, such as medication, psychotherapy, and ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy). There are also natural ways to fight depression. Some examples are aerobic exercise, meditation, yoga and some herbal remedies like St. John’s Wort and fish oil. Also in cases of severe symptoms hospitalization may be necessary to help stabilize the person.
Things as simple as poor hygiene, poor psychical health, and overly dependent behavior can be a cause of depression (Mental Health, 1995-2014). More severe conditions can involve, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, anxiety and phobias, and need for care (Mental Health, 1995-2014). The first time someone may feel depressed could occur at any age from childhood to old age, the onset may be either acute or long term. People who have been depressed for only a few months are more likely to overcome it. Others who have dealt with depression for most of their life with never get over it. 40 percent of people who have a conic illness of depression overcome it (Mental Health, 1995-2014). There are things a person can do to help with a depression illness. Psychotherapy is one option. Psychotherapy is treatment of mental or emotional illness by talking about problems rather than by using medicine or drugs (Merriam-Webster, 2014). Things like vitamins or dietary supplements are all ineffective for helping with depression. Although almost two-thirds of individuals with major depressive disorder responds to current therapies, at least one-third relapse back into depression 18 months post treatment
The good news about an individual being depress is that he or she can be cure from this state of mind. Also, in addition to medication, literature reviews states an individual receiving therapy alone or combined with other therapies can be successful in the individual regaining his or her confidence in life. Additionally, Williamson (2008) stated, “Psychotherapies involving short-term, goal-oriented approaches aimed at specific interpersonal problems such as unresolved grief, role transitions, interpersonal role disputes, and interpersonal deficits, which may trigger depressive episodes, have become very effective antidepressant therapy, especially when combined with antidepressant drug therapy” (Pp. 24). While depression is favorably curable, some types of depression may not be avoidable. That's because depression may be activated by a biological deficiency intellectually.
The past is in the past - and you DO know this, even though you might ignore the fact that what happened last week, last year, or ten years before should be ousted from your mind right now. You still cling on to it and keep the negative loop playing over and over in your mind, calling up the hurt and suffering, effectively recycling emotional pain day in, day out. I call it 'the Negative Four Rs of emotional pain: Re-thinking, Re-living, Re-feeling, Re-cycling.

Being thankful shows that we appreciate one another, thankfulness brings us together. We have to be grateful for what we have, because some people aren’t as fortunate as us. Most of us have shelter, food, and a loving family. That is all we need, we have to show that we appreciate it.
Psychologist say that "being conscious of who and what you are grateful for has real benefits". There are numerous things that I can possibly think of that I am grateful for, starting from the less minimum to the greatest of them all. Many people have the definition of grateful messed up, they are only grateful when things are good or when receiving material compensations. Gratitude to me is more than that, gratitude is showing appreciation even to the little things in life. When it comes to me I am grateful for my mistakes, my belongings, and my mentor.

Everyone has held a grudge against someone at some point in life. Whether it is over something small or much more serious. The anger we feel can make us bitter in many ways for years. Learning to let go of grudges/bitterness is something difficult for people to do, but it is necessary for us, for our well-being, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
