Along with medication it is wise for people to go to ‘talk therapy’ so they can control their emotions and thoughts better. Psychological treatment is a long term solution to depression because working through problems and re-training the brain to feel and think in a more positive light will help stop depression after a while. Medication and therapy are used together so while a patient is undergoing the long journey of therapy they can have short term relief using medication. Another common treatment for depression is through school and community supports. When a person has depression, it is important to make life less stressful for them so it’s easier to overcome their illness which is why it’s good when teachers help the patient. Things as simple as poor hygiene, poor psychical health, and overly dependent behavior can be a cause of depression (Mental Health, 1995-2014). More severe conditions can involve, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, anxiety and phobias, and need for care (Mental Health, 1995-2014). The first time someone may feel depressed could occur at any age from childhood to old age, the onset may be either acute or long term. People who have been depressed for only a few months are more likely to overcome it. Others who have dealt with depression for most of their life with never get over it. 40 percent of people who have a conic illness of depression overcome it (Mental Health, 1995-2014). There are things a person can do to help with a depression illness. Psychotherapy is one option. Psychotherapy is treatment of mental or emotional illness by talking about problems rather than by using medicine or drugs (Merriam-Webster, 2014). Things like vitamins or dietary supplements are all ineffective for helping with depression. No two people are affected by depression in the same exact way so there are many options that may potentially work for one person and may not for another. The essential intervention for depression would be to have significant lifestyle changes. exercise and nutrition could be as effective as taking antidepressants and will increase mental and physical health.Exercise has a similar desired effect as antidepressants in which they boost happy hormones such as serotonin and endorphins in the body and leads to the growth of more brain cells and connections between them. social support is important in order for the patient to not feel isolated and stress reduction is key to avoid the exacerbation of their depression.

Most people use self-help and coping which reduces depression. To begin with, it is important to maintain close relationships and social activities with friends and family. It helps anyone beat depression at any point. Also taking care of yourself. Eliminate negative thoughts, wake up, dress up, go out there and do something productive. Engage in activities you love, exercise and eat healthy foods to keep yourself happy and rejuvenated (Addis& Mahalik, 2003).

Psychologist say that "being conscious of who and what you are grateful for has real benefits". There are numerous things that I can possibly think of that I am grateful for, starting from the less minimum to the greatest of them all. Many people have the definition of grateful messed up, they are only grateful when things are good or when receiving material compensations. Gratitude to me is more than that, gratitude is showing appreciation even to the little things in life. When it comes to me I am grateful for my mistakes, my belongings, and my mentor.
