Dianne is an inspirational woman who has changed the lives of many of her family members and friends. Though Dianne has gone through some tough times herself, she still keeps going and has lived an incredibly interesting life. This is the story of Dianne Oliphant-Birch, my mother and my best friend. It was a warm, sunny afternoon on December 25th, 1974 when Marion Christina Manson-Oliphant and Raymond Stanley Oliphant brought a beautiful baby girl, Dianne, into the world. It was an amazing day for her mom, dad, sister, and brother who were visiting the Marymount Maternity Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dianne grew up in Malvern, Johannesburg, South Africa with her mom, dad, sister and brother. When she wasn't at school, she would …show more content…
Dianne finished high school with good grades in English, Afrikaans, Typing, Accountancy, Business Economics and Home Economics as her subjects. Straight out of high school at age 18, Dianne got her first job and her driver’s license. She moved in with Andrew at his parent's house, to get away from her parents and be with people she loved. Her first job was as a receptionist at a printing company in Kew, Johannesburg. The owner of the printing company knew her dad, Raymond, who worked at a partnering printing company. Dianne learned a lot about the printing industry and is amazed at how much it has changed over the years. In April 1995, Dianne, Andrew and six of their very dear friends went on the most unforgettable vacation ever. They all chartered a house boat on Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe. It was a weeklong vacation that she talks about all the time. She got to see elephants and hippos up close and swam in crocodile infested waters. On the way home they stopped at the very famous Victoria Falls and three of the guys bungee jumped 70 meters (230 feet) over the Zambezi
From working several jobs at a time to make sure I had everything I needed, she became the reason why I was raised the way I raised. The lesson that “ I should treat everyone like the most important person in the world because I will never know when I might need them” was engraved in my head was owned by my mother. Sometimes she would tell me that she had holes in her socks and I knew it was due to most of her money going towards my private school tuition in order for me to be able to have the best education I could get. My mother is my background, my identity, interest, and talent. She is truly the one that has set me up for success, regardless of how fatigued or overworked she is. She is the person who truly defines who I am and who I have become to this

Dorothy McCormick graduated high school in 1960, but couldn’t go to college because her brother already was going. Her family did not have enough money for the both of them to go so McCormick went to work right out of highschool. She remembers one day, driving to work,
Katherine Johnson has always been a bright woman. She was always the smartest in her classes. By the age of 10 she completed the eighth grade. At the age of 13, she attended high school 120 miles away from their home town. This was the closest public school for African Americans. At 15 years old, she attended college at West Virginia State College. There, she took every math course that was available to her. At 18, she graduated with degrees in mathematics and French.
She is intelligent, hardworking, witty, charismatic, dedicated, loyal, and is an excellent speaker, reader, and writer. As a student, she read two or three grade levels above her grade level and was well read—reading most of the classics at a young age. I was quite impressed, but not surprised when she graduated at the top 10 percent of her high school class and graduated from The University of Texas in
She had a very successful life and was motivated by her hard-working parents and hoped to find success as a businesswoman. After teaching at two schools she went to Montreal to study at Field Beauty Culture School, one of the only establishments that accepted black students.
It was a brisk day at Saint Mary's Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 16, 1949, the day that Darlene Cheryl Herr was born small and fragile to Charles Herr and Maria Apodaca into the big, strong world. Without the support of her two brothers Charles Herr, and Harry Herr, two step-brothers Lester Herr, and James Herr, and her parents, she may never have became the brave, intelligent and well-mannered person that she is today.
In school she played volleyball and basketball in the 8th grade. When she wasn’t at school she was able to work in the summertime if the family did not travel to California.
Shelby-Lynn Schroder was born at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada on September 15th, 2001. She was born into a family that included only her mother and father. Her mother, Leanne, was told she could not have children after going through chemotherapy for Osteosarcoma, but the odds were fortunately beat on the day she discovered she was pregnant with Shelby. Because of this, she had earned the nickname “Miracle Baby” by her family.
As Dian began to grow up and she finished high school she left to go attend Martin Junior College which is located in California she took business classes and when she finished a year in Marin Junior College she actually left to go work in a farm where she began to work as a animal caretaker which in this job she began to expand her love for animals while she was working at the farm even though she was having fun taking care of all those animals she had to leave because she got chickenpox. After she left she went back to college but this time to a different one which was the University of California at Davis, this school was actually to start her career as a veterinarian her first year was pretty good and easy but when it came to her second year she was terrible and didn’t really understand one specific class so she failed and had to transfer to San Jose State College where she
There have been a vast number of lives that have touched mine. Many different people have shared a piece of their soul in my formation. However, it is my mother who is the most important and most influential person in my life. My mother raised me by herself since the day I was born. My father was abusive and she left to make a better life for the both of us. She has worked as many as four jobs at one time. My mother wants to make sure my brothers and I have a better life than she did. It hasn’t always been easy for her, taking care of us on her own, trying to pay bills and making sure we had everything we needed. My mom has always had us involved in sports at a very young age. We always were doing something or involved in something
Feminism has a long history here in the U.S. Feminism is what women have fought for and continue to fight for; equal opportunities for both men and women, that is what the goal of feminism is. It also fights to change the idea that all women must be homemakers, while most feminists do not find any fault in a woman who chooses this. They fight so that if a woman chooses work and a life different from the typical women’s role they will not be judged. As I was reading Diane Di Prima Recollections of My Life as a Women, I was mostly astonished at her ability to go against everything a woman was supposed to be in that era. She went against the norms and chose to be something that wasn’t the typical woman and she did a great job at it. She was a woman ahead of her time and she seemed fearless to me, at least she did in her writing.

Hi Oprah with all of the success you've had I realized some people would want an audience with you to ask for a list of opportunities. However, over the years I have wanted to just say "Thank You". Let me share a little bit of my story I wanted to be a journalist an preacher since I was a little girl. When I was in high school, I did my research on journalism schools and found one in Maryland. However "comma" My mother was not having it and my hopes were dashed. So I decided on the next family tradition of nursing following my Father in the field. But the observer and interpreter of life that it takes to be a good writer stayed alive within me. Forward fast a lifetime, I am doing post grad work on a PhD in Theology and teaching at a Bible College.
My mother, the blinding light in any darkness, is my connection in the hard but yet easy life I live.
