July 30th, 1863, William and Mary Ford, owners of one of the more substantial homesteads in Dearborn, Michigan, had their first surviving child named Henry. Henry Ford didn’t like the hard life he had been born into of farming to survive. Luckily going to school offered an escape from the long hours of endless chores. He was a naturally curious child. Henry Ford was a natural born mechanic. One of the first places that he was able to express his innate ability was when he received a wrist watch for his 13th birthday. His Ford Motor Company revolutionized mass production and consumerism through his development of the assembly line. However, many people were opposed to the routinized unskilled labor he employed that caused many of the workers to be easily replaceable. Henry Ford was much like other children growing up. Ford was born on July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. He was raised on a farm and others could tell he would be extremely successful in his future. In order to learn more about the engines and be more successful, Henry Ford built friendships with the men who ran the full-sized steam engines. He learned how to fix watches in order to understand how machines worked. Ford was intrigued by machines and went the extra mile to learn more about them. He was willing to risk it all just to pursue his dream and would not let a bump in the road stop him.

The son of a farmer, Henry Ford was born near Detroit, Michigan to William Ford and Mary Ligot. Since his teens Ford has always been interested in tinkering and finding out how things worked. “At the young age of 15, he dissolved and reunited the timepieces of neighbors and friends many times and gained a status of a watch repairman.”(The Famous People) Ford started to get a lot of experience through servicing and working machines. “His father wanted him to take over the family farm over the course of time but he denied telling his father that he loved the farm just because his mother was there. Ford was raised on a small farm ran by his father outside of Detroit (Mitchell,1). As a child Henry was very interested in machinery. He always wanted a simpler way to do everything. “His Father would go to town and ask the children what they wanted. Henry's brother and sister would ask for candy but henry always asked for clock wheels.”

Henry Ford was a self-sufficient man, he is greatly known for initiating the era of mass consumption and mass production in the American economy. Not only did he create “Ford Motor Company” but he is also known for numerous other things such as creating the moving assembly line, high wages and sponsoring Americanization school for foreign workers so they could have a successful future.

More than any single person of the last century, Henry Ford can take responsibility for creating the American middle class. We can thank him or curse him, but either way, we have to acknowledge the impact Henry Ford had on our society.

1916 Person of the Year: How Henry Ford Changed America In 1896, when the people of Detroit saw a noisy self-propelled vehicle rolling down the street, no one knew that the driver would go on to change the lives of Americans forever. In 1876, 32 years before creation of the Model T, and 38 years before the announcement of the five-dollar, eight-hour day, Henry Ford was 13, fixing things on his farm and his neighbors’ watches, and intrigued by steam engines. Exactly twenty years later, he had built his first car. Just five years later, he was building racing cars and winning races, and in 1902, he had formed his first successful company, Ford and Malcomson, Ltd. How did Ford go from a simple tinkering mechanic to a competitive businessman in just twelve years?

At the age of 16, Ford left home to take on an apprenticeship as a machinist in Detroit. Here, he worked with steam engines and studied bookkeeping. Three years laters, Ford married Clara Bryant and returned to work on his family’s farm. Ford still operated steam engines and sometimes worked at Detroit facilities. In 1891, he was hired as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company, and soon after accepting the job, he was promoted to chief engineer.

I’m going to give you some insight on a Henry Ford, and how and why he revolutionized our country. Without him we wouldn’t be the America we are today. Henry Ford is one of the main factors that played a part in winning World War 2. He had ideas; great brain storms that would become reality to help the American people in all factors of their daily lives. So Henry Ford helped us win the war. He also figured out how to make a car that was reliable, cheap, and fast to make. Then after all that was said and done he even paid his workers the most and hired anyone that had the qualification to work for him. Henry Ford made America a better place for the people.

Ford’s mother past away after a miscarriage and his father, William Ford , was left to raise him. Ford worked on the farm from the age of thirteen years until he was 15 years old. He then left the farm to chase his aspirations of becoming a business man. His father was able to get him a job at a local factory where Henry would be able to get some hands on experience working in a factory.

Henry Ford was the world’s most influential leader. From founding one of the worlds most successful car companies, to having a major influence on WWI, he has profoundly shaped the 20th century and left an impact on every single one of our lives. Although Mr. Ford is considered one of the wealthiest and most commonly known people in the world, Ford was founded by his hard work and dedication to supply a perfect product. At one point half the cars on the road worldwide were his famous model-t. As the company expanded he slowly began to make Ford more independent, such as purchasing acres of land for wood, purchasing land for rubber trees, and even having his own line of specialty glass blowers. Mr. Ford strived to give his customers the best deal possible, constantly finding ways do drop the price of his cars so they could be available to all. He has risen the standards not only in business but in the innovative world as well. Overall it is safe to say Henry Ford embodies success and has given the American Dream a new definition, he has truly inspired us all.
