Paul Klee was one of the most unique and influential artist’s of his time period. Klee was born in Münchenbuchsee, Switzerland on the 18th of December 1879. Klee, being born in Switzerland and creating a majority of his work in Germany, was considered both a Swiss and German artist. As a child Klee was extremely interested in drawing and music. His parents pushed music in their household however the rebellious Paul viewed music of the time as “meaningless” and stuck to the path of drawing and art. Paul Klee’s artwork was heavily influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, futurism, cubism, and surrealism. M.C. Escher occupies a unique spot among the most popular artists of the past century. While his contemporaries focused on breaking from traditional art and its emphasis on realism and beauty, Escher found his muse in symmetry and infinity. His attachment to geometric forms made him one of modernism’s most recognizable artists and his work remains as relevant as ever.

Students through the process of art appreciation will build connections through the exploration of textures, lines, colour and shape when describing, analysing, interpreting and judging the artworks before them (3 chosen images). They are asked to describe what they see, the artist’s use of colour, lines, shapes and texture. They then move onto analysing; what catches their eye, is the composition balanced and do the paintings look flat or do they have depth. The discussion then progresses onto interpretation where students are able to express what type of emotion they feel when looking at the pictures, perhaps the kind of sounds they might hear if they could step into it, and why they think the artist chose this particular subject to paint and what may have inspired the artist.

Every painter has a certain style of painting, whether it's intentional to paint abstract or unintentional to paint as a modernist. I analyzed Abigail Kuchar’s artwork. She is an artist at Western Washington University. Currently, she is enrolled as a student and working on her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Recently, she exhibited her work in a Symbiotic Qualia, Western Gallery (group BFA Thesis Exhibition). Her ideas on visuals are very unique as compare to another artist. Her work is heavily influenced by reoccurring natural forms and patterns, representing, the specific shapes that have been successful in a variety of different applications. For example, the formation of bubbles, lichen, barnacles, anemones, spores, pollen, and seed pods, all have similar compositions. By creating work that includes these forms, the viewer is presented with something unusual, but vaguely familiar. Her material used in the artwork is environment-friendly.

The objective of this study is to post the names of three visual artists such as painters and sculptors that were the most influential during the 1960. After identifying the visual artists, a URL will be posted so that the reader can link up to review their work. Finally, a brief commentary will be offered on each of the artists in regards to why they are so influential.

Eva Hesse was born on January eleventh 1936 in Hamburg, Germany. She was well known for her post minimal art during the 1960’s with materials such as fiberglass, latex and plastics. The details about her life are interesting because she was born into a family of “observant jews” and at the age of two she was sent by her parents to the Netherlands with her sister to flee from Nazi, Germany in 1938. Only six months later, she then reunited with her family in England and then immigrated their way to New York City in 1939.
