The most leading type of popular music in much of the world is in fact rock, or “Rock n’ Roll” as it was called during its early history. In the mid-1950’s, rock exploded on the music scene in the United States. Early rock was a rebellious style that attracted many young teens that wanted to feel the taste of the adult world. It began by Chuck Berry from the origins of jazz and blues music and was also influenced by gospel, country, and traditional folk music. The first rock and roll record to achieve significant commercial success was Bill Haley’s “Rock Around the Clock.” The popularity of rock music resulted in a powerful impact on society. Rock and roll influenced fashion, attitudes, daily life, and language in a way.
