Cameron Sesi English 1060 PE#2 Draft 2 14 December 2015 Hard Work Pays Off If you had the chance to change the world’s transportation would you do it? The Wright brothers had the chance to revolutionize the world and they took full advantage. The Wright Brothers, by David McCullough shows how two young inventors worked hard to pursue their dreams. They were two brothers, Wilbur and Orville, and they were from a small town in Ohio. They started by working at a print shop, and then realized they wanted to open a business so they decide to open a bicycle shop that started to do well and made a lot of money. The brothers finally realized that they wanted to invent the first airplane so they started to invest most of their time to pursue their …show more content…
The Wright brothers spent a lot of time trying to invent the first airplane. They would work long days and spend a lot of money testing everything and they tried to figure out anything that could help them build their airplane such as, trying to find ways to make the money to help them build the airplane. They did not have a lot of money to just keep trying to build the airplane, and they got offered fifty thousand dollars from Octave Chanute but they refused his offer because they wanted to take all the credit for the airplane. “He also offered Wilber full use of a large room at his factory in which to assemble the Flyer, in addition to the help of some of his workers”( McCullough 161). That shows that many people were trying to offer help to the brothers as well as getting credit from the successful invention. The brothers were really struggling because their only income was from their bicycle shop, which did fairly well, but it costs a lot to build an airplane and a motor. They had the idea of building the airplane and they wanted to keep up the hard work because they did not want to waste their work and let someone else get credit for their …show more content…
It was not easy to be in innovator. Innovators needed to know a lot of information to make sure they are doing the right thing; there were a lot of people trying to accomplish some of the same things as the Wright brothers. The Brothers truly were innovators because they were the first people who successfully built and flew the first airplane, although many people and big companies with much more money to spend on parts than the Wright brothers had, but they still were the first to build the airplane with all of their disadvantages. “The brothers refused to show the delegation their Flyer III, but willingly provided photographs and eyewitness testimony of the plane in flight” (McCullough 132). The brothers tried to make sure that they are doing the right thing and see what they did wrong after each trial and they wanted to think about it before showing their work to
The Wright Brothers’ creation of the first plane, the Flyer, made a big impact on the world. Some of the impacts may not have been positive, but the first plane has definitely affected how the world is today. In 1893, Orville and Wilbur Wright opened a bike rental and repair shop. As time passed, their reputation for engineering became bigger and the brothers decided to take on a new challenge, which was flight. (Wright-brothers.org) Their knowledge of bicycles helped the Brothers produce a successful aircraft. (airandspace.si.edu) On December 17, 1903, the Flyer was able to fly for 12 seconds. Although this wasn’t a very long time, it was the first time in history that an airplane which could hold a person was able to stay in flight. (National Geographic) Flyer, made by the Wright Brothers, affected the world in how we travel, send things overseas, and fight wars.
Over 100 years ago, when humanity looked for new places to conquer, two men looked to the skies. Wilbur and Orville Wright built the first working motor airplane, and after that day, the world took a huge interest in aviation, causing many leading pioneers and innovators in the aerospace field to emerge, revolutionizing the way we look at the skies.
Let us not forget a huge transportation invention that came during the 19th century, the airplane. The airplane was invented by Orville and Wilbur Wright on December of 1903. The founders were also brothers, and they invented the first successful object which a machine carried a man rose by its own power. It had speed, descended without damage and flew naturally. As time passed the
By December of 1903, the Wright brothers changed the world! They built the first powered airplane ever made. If it wasn't for them, we might not have planes today. The Wright brothers' invention relates to the theme of Work, Exchange, and Technology because they worked hard and built something innovative that relates to modern
“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end,” said Robin Sharman. Advancements and progress that came from innovational minds took time and there were many obstacles and hardships. During the 1900s the world gave birth of the bright minds of the Wright Brothers that gave the world’s first successful airplane, also the modifications of the corset gave way to new fashion styles and trends and finally the tragic Galveston Hurricane paved the pathway of new mechanics and progressive ideas. Before, the thought of people being in the air and flying seemed impossible and dangerous, but the 1900s was a decade of advancement and many innovative minds such as Orville and Wilbur Wright, tried to build a “flying machine”. Unlike
Now imagine how hard it would be. Really hard right? Well, while constructing the first aircraft, the Wright brothers went through many problems and challenges, but they had to learn how to overcome them. For example, they went through weather issues, religious problems and technical difficulties. They must of had incredible inventing skills to overcome these complicated challenges!
Neither of the brothers attended college, but instead, ventured forward together in becoming entrepreneurs. The two went to work in mastering the printing business, learning to work together to build their own printing presses. The teamwork between the two brothers led to the two opening a bicycle shop in 1892, at first selling and mending bikes, and later building them (Garber 2). Their success in the bicycle business led to their nickname, “The Wright Brothers,” and produced a reputation for their mechanical designs. Their skills and profits gained from mechanizing and building these bicycles would give them the basic knowledge and funding to help in their endeavors to mechanize aircraft later on (Garber 2). The boys’ experiences of working together and crafting printers and bicycles gave the two brothers skills that would be later used for their greatest challenge, flight. The Wright brothers did not simply forget the helicopter toy that their father brought home, dreams of man-controlled aviation still lingered in the brothers’ heads. The aviation endeavors of German aviator, Otto Lilienthal, sparked the duo’s earlier interest in aviation, which gave rise to the brothers beginning to devote their mechanical and design skills to solving the mystery behind
Wilbur and Orville Wright were American inventors, best known for their invention of the first airplane in 1903. The History Organization says, “It was the first powered, sustained and controlled airplane flight; they surpassed their own milestone two years later when they built and flew the first fully practical airplane.”
Orville Wright once said, “The airplane stays up because it doesn’t have the time to fall.” The ingenuity of the Wright brothers’ airplane design has changed the course of the Western world forever. The invention of the aircraft positively affected American society by providing a quicker way of traveling, having an influence on warfare, and implementing a better economy in the United States.
It has always been the dream of mankind wanting to join the birds in the sky, many innovators created various contraptions to achieve flight. On December 17, 1903, two brothers by the name of Wilbur and Orville Wright decided to test their contraption and it was successful. This event changed the course of aviation as the contraption known as Flyer 1 became the first successful powered heavier-than-air flight.
The world was changed on December 17, 1903 when Orville Wright flew the first airplane for a period of 12 seconds. Orville, born in 1871 and his brother Wilbur, born in 1867 grew up in Dayton Ohio with two other brothers, Reuchlin and Lorin and one sister Katherine. They grew up in a loving family, which helped the brothers with the success in their future. Many people are not aware that much of their knowledge that went into the makings of the airplane came from their mother Susan and the bicycle repair shop they owned. Interestingly, Wilbur and Orville were not the men who first thought of flying. In the 16th century, Leonardo de Vinci had thoughts of a “flying machine” that was ahead its time, though

The Wright brothers had many troubles that happened building and flying the first motorized aircraft.
The Wright Brothers had an interesting life that led to the inspiration of their inventions later on. On April 16, 1867, Milton was born in Millville, Indiana; Orville, his brother, was born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio (Ryan). Neither of them attended college, but this did not diminish their intellectual abilities. Instead, they founded a print shop in 1889 and a bicycle shop a few years later to make money for their family and themselves. These businesses helped fund their aeronautical interests. They started off by making kites to observe the basics of flight (Reynolds 44). After making enough money, they began to experiment with various contraptions that resembled the German glider created by Otto Lilenthal and Octave Chanute. To help figure out how they would make their
