Culture, ethnic backgrounds, and religious beliefs can sometimes affect your food choices. These factors can affect you positively or negatively. From a young age these factors are already affecting us and our food choices. When we grow up, we must make our own decisions and quite a few things have helped us choose.

Culture is defined in the dictionary as the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another. In this case the group of people is your family and community. The customs are what are believed by your family and community. Families have their own various beliefs but community is really important when it comes to food choices. A lot of the time it depends on what your community provides for you. It also sometimes depends on your communities food choices. If you're always surrounded by a certain food you will be more compelled to eat it. It's especially hard if there is an abundant amount of fast food restaurants. It makes it hard to eat healthy when you go out to dinner.

Eventually when you grow up it will be your choice whether or not to keep these dietary rules. Some people have different ways of following these rules. For example, the Jewish religion has certain dietary rules. These specific set of rules are called keeping kosher. It's easier to keep kosher inside your home than go out for dinner and keep kosher. Some people keep kosher inside and outside of their house. Some people keep kosher inside their house but don't keep kosher outside of the house.
