How Have the Concepts of Popular Sovereignty, Rule of Law and Tolerance Developed Through Time

The Constitution urged for a division of power. First between the state government and the Federal government and also between its three branches: the legislative, the executive and the judicial branches. A system of checks and balances ensures that one branch does not exert ultimate power but that it is observed and corrected by the powers of the other two branches.The Federalists divided power is in three different branches, the executive, judicial, and the legislative branch. The legislative branch tends to be the most powerful; therefore, this branch was divided into two sub-branches. Not only does these powers have to be balanced, but also the president cannot have too much. Checks and Balances are made so that if the president starts to act like a king or a dictator he can be impeached. The goal of the checks and balances were achieved, since the branches in the government are now equal.

The Preamble to the Constitution is important because it gives us freedom and security from infringement on these rights. It talks about our goal to form a “more perfect Union” and establishes the Constitution. The goal is to bring justice to those who have been awaiting it. Justice means to bring to the surface what matters and to make it right. This will help to make us into that union or unit of people. To unite us and make us one nation. By uniting the people you are making the nation stronger and more prepared to face situations.

One of the most important principles incorporated in the U.S. Constitution is separation of powers. The U.S. Constitution divided the central government into three branches and created a system of checks and balances as a way to prevent the concentration of power. “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” In order to be sure that the main

The separation of powers is a theory of government whereby political power is distributed among three branches of government; the legislature, the executive and the judiciary. The doctrine of the separation of powers embodies three basic principles; limited government, which means that the government’s power over its citizens is limited by the Bill of Rights. Secondly is the separation of personnel, meaning that no one person can hold office in separate branches of the government at the same time. And lastly, each branch of government keeps a watch over the other branches of government and in some cases can overrule it to prevent them from becoming too powerful.

The checks and balance system is a very unique system we have in the government. This lets another branch have a say to what one branch wants to do. This is known as each branch has limited power and one can either allow or deny an action they are trying to get done. Popular sovereignty is the idea of power and government coming from people and not just the officials of the government.

In today’s world, we are using more and more technology in our lives that was thought to be impossible only 50 odd years ago. However, what has been the most influential ideas that helped formed our government we know today have been written on paper. One of the ideas from some of these documents is Popular Sovereignty. Popular Sovereignty means people power, something we see a lot of in our government. Popular Sovereignty is the most significant influence on the development of our government because it is seen in many documents that also influenced the development of our government, like the Magna Carta, The Mayflower Compact, and the writings of John Locke.

The separation of powers and checks and balances is a system that was created in America by the founding fathers in the constitution of the United States. The separation of power plays an important role of keeping the three branches which are legislative, executive, and judicial in the government systems equal to one another and that neither branches becomes too powerful. Each branch has its very own power and duties to serve to the people and government. All three branches play a significant role in checks and balances and separation of powers, in our government and rely on each other to make sure that all of the power is equally distributed.

In the system, separation of powers, three branches of government are created and the power is shared between them. The powers of one branch can also be challenged by another. The three branches in the United States government that are established by the Constitution are the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branch. In order to achieve this remarkable goal, the Founders made the decision to adopt the concept of Separation of Powers.
