Legalizing and regulating marijuana has been long sought after by many individuals. It would bring one of the nation's largest cash crops under the rule of law, changing many things in the criminal, medicine, job/tax world. "The criminalization of marijuana used disproportionately harms young people and people of color, sponsors massive levels of violence and corruption, and fails to curb youth access." “There were 658,000 arrests for marijuana possession in 2012, according to F.B.I. figures, compared with 256,000 for cocaine, heroin and their derivatives." Substances like marijuana, some would feel should not have the same affect on your record or equal punishment to things like heroine, lysergic, and or meth. Marijuana sponsors most of the drug related arrests documented in the U.S. Ruining the lives of many of the young people and colored people. The illegal crime of distributing marijuana usually associates itself with gun violence, harming and putting many individuals in danger. If marijuana were legal the dangers of any other crime would not worry anyone and would supply another way of making income instead of incarcerating so many Americans.

The legalization of marijuana would benefit many Americans. Marijuana has many medical benefits that would be very helpful to society. Benefits both mental and physical such as slowing down the process of Alzheimer's, helping with arthritis discomfort, stops the spreading of cancer cells, and also controls epileptic seizures. Federally legalizing marijuana would bring many new jobs and a very big new source of tax income. "Colorado’s marijuana legalization is quickly turning the state into one of the most prosperous places in the country. Not only has Colorado projected marijuana sales to be a billion dollar industry, but in January of 2014 alone, the state pulled in over $3.5 million in tax revenue from legal pot sales. If that trend continues, the state will enjoy an additional $40 million in tax revenue in the first year of legalization. But that’s not all – you know those dismal unemployment figures plaguing the nation? Not in states where pot is legal. Colorado is reporting 10,000 new jobs, all from the legalization of both recreational and medical marijuana." 10,000 new jobs to each state in the United States would easily improve the market, less unemployment. "The state is now enjoying one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation – 6% – which is the lowest it has been since the recession started. So much for those old sayings about pot-heads being lazy. That’s an additional 10,000 people in a labor force out working, instead of collecting unemployment. That’s good for everyone."
