Standardized Tests and Students Everyone hates on standardized tests, but what’s so terrible about seeing what you have learned? It’s a good idea to give students standardized tests. It closes educational gaps, shows if students are doing good work, and reduces other assignment’s. First off, testing will reduce the student’s other assignments. If you are taking one big test at the end of the quarter, that means to other quizzes and book work will not be needed. Instead of taking up class time by giving quizzes, the students and teachers can review for the test. It can also get all of it out of the way, instead of taking a little quiz on every chapter. Even though it make take up time to do the test, compare it to the time you spend on smaller
Anyone who has ever taken the ACT or the SAT knows how stressful and difficult the tests are. Students are forever judged because of the scores the receive by colleges and peers. The ACT/SAT are standardized tests that are meant to calculate what students have learned in previous years of high school. Colleges then use this score to determine whether a student will succeed in college. Specific problems with this process include the fact that high schoolers are extremely busy and may have other things on their minds, the tests require brutal test prep, the test can cause stress and anxiety, and the tests do not accurately gage a student’s college success. For these main reasons, students should not be required to take the ACT/SAT to get into college.
Don’t all students hate standardized tests. They waste lots of time and don’t influence your grade so then what’s the point of them. I think that students shouldn’t take standardized tests. First of all students take the test in May and don’t get the results until September so the test doesn’t do much. Lots of teachers also only teach to the test meaning they only prepare them to pass the test. Students might know the content but because of test anxiety they might not be able to show it on the test.
First, a classroom must have a strong focus of balance. “Balance is so very important in a classroom, when having to deal with different ability levels you must be able to challenge the advanced students and adjust activities for the lower level students, there must be a balance!” (Madigan) The idea of balance is crucial to each student’s success rate. If teachers are able to successfully do this, testing shouldn’t be necessary and can be used a lot less frequently. There is a time for tests, just in moderation.
The first rationality I have is that the tests can cause unneeded stress among young children. The stress can be caused from teachers preparing for the tests, instead of teaching what the tests are examining the students about. This means that school corporations will make sure the test networks are working, wasting roughly an hour per class, this time could be rehearsing what the test is covering. Another reason stress can be caused is because some students don’t take tests seriously. The teachers are graded from their students so if some students are not taking the tests seriously the students who work diligently are given unfair work. In truth, this is why Standardized Tests cause stress in younger children.
For many years, schools all around the United States of America have required students in their public schools to take standardized tests. These schools administer at least one standardized test per nine weeks or every semester. In some cases, these standardized tests determine whether a student is getting accepted into college, going onto to the next grade, or even attending special tutorings. In all these situations, the outcome of whether the student passes or fails the exams is dependant on their future. The future of these students is not only in danger, but the future of our nation is also on the line. Schools should remove all the use of standardized test. These tests give students something to worry about, but it also may cause these
In the United States, striving for perfection and a great education for the students becomes a necessity. With all the other pressures found in society, high expectations of a standard education among students prevail, specifically hindering the chances of getting accepted into the dream college. Nowadays, most colleges use the grades from multiple standardized tests, such as the SAT’s or ACT’s, as a way to evaluate an individual's knowledge against other students. Although usually mandatory, standardized tests overwhelm students with distressing outcomes, rather than beneficial effects, creating a standard system of unreliable measurements of a student’s performance and unfair discrimination against the non English speaking or students with
Standardized Testing is any form of a test that is scored in a standard manner which makes it easier to compare the relative performance of students. The different types of standardized tests included the SAT, which is the scholastic assessment test which is given out by the college board, and the ACT which is American College for Testing and is administered by the national admissions test (Lieberman). These types of tests help colleges pick which students to accept and which students to deny. As useful as they seem, they aren’t all that easy to do. A huge load of time and intense studying that causes a huge amount of stress is put into these standardized tests. Students are constantly being tested and have to take trail tests to see if they
It is a tough thought for some teenagers, to imagine the idea of more tests on top of the already rigorous schoolwork. Early on Saturday mornings, one can see the procession of kids entering high schools across the country to put themselves through five hours of gruelling testing. All of this nightmarish workload is completed just for the opportunity to attend a college of some recognition and ultimately gain a job in the workforce.
First of all, tests help the teachers know what they need to teach better. For example, if a group of kids don’t do good on a certain portion of the test, the teacher knows what they need to explain better next time. Also teachers learn if the kid isn’t understanding something. Although others may say, isn’t that what regular tests do? The answer
The effect of this can hinder a student's overall learning potential. The fact that the sense of urgency for a student to pass a test a getting higher the atmosphere is becoming boring and lacks creativeness. The small sample of knowledge that is tested on standardized testing provides a very incomplete picture picture of the students actual achievements. There are way too many attributes that cannot be measured by standardized testing. They only measure a portion of goals teachers and administrators set out for use students to
Teachers will not be stressed over grading different tests over and over, but an organized test will help them grade much faster. Too much testing can be a distraction since the students will never be able to learn anything clearly due to starting a new topic over something very quickly. Many students fail the course over these procedures. Testing not enough will not prepare the students for the future courses in high school or college. The students who are in the course will have trouble remembering the things that they struggle on. Students that are hard workers will have too many things to study and even can affect their grade if they have a lot of homework. One of the only positive effects in this case is that students have a lot of time to take notes review what they
Have you ever thought about what college you want to go to after high school? In order to get into that college, you must be accepted. Colleges look for a numerous amount of criteria in order for you to get accepted, and one of those things colleges look for is your standardized test score. The standardized test is a test administered and scored in a consistent, or “standard”, way (edglossary.org). Seeing that you must get a high enough score on the test in order for your dream college to accept you, the tests are difficult, but are very worth it at the end. Colleges have been accepting students into their school with standardized test scores for more than 50 years, and with that being said, it has seemed to work pretty well (content.time.com). In the end, standardized test scores show that you deserve to go to that college, and is also a way of showing that you’ve worked hard for so long to accomplish something huge.
Standardized test are very biased and are unfair to people whose first language is not english. The other students have been speaking english since birth, so it is very unfair to children who grew up speaking another language. Because the test are in a very formal kind of english people who just know conversational english will struggle. “Many students are doing poorly on our high stakes tests due to a lack of understanding of the complex English language.” (Phillips, 52) It not right to test students on a language that they have yet to master. It is also unfair to students with special needs, these students are not being given test that are right for them and that they will be able to take well. The testing companies do not provide revised
A question most students ask is why do we take standardized tests and is it needed in life, studies have shown that “93% of studies on student testing, including the use of large-scale and high-stakes standardized tests, found a "positive effect" on student achievement” according to a 100 year analysis of testing research by Richard P. Pelps. Another reason is most students get plenty of time to prepare for the test with test prep, also if you fail the first time you can pay to retake and with a little more studying can easily raise your test grade. Final reason most people believe it provides an accurate measurement of a student's performance and a teacher's effectiveness.
Students take too many already. We need to make sure students aren’t obsessing over test. President Obama said “testing is so much more than just filling in bubbles.” Some people might say we need to take more to get ready for pass, but to much testing can build up stress. students Take to many test in the first place.
