Hubble in Trouble
The government should allot money for the Hubble Space Telescope because they need to keep it operational. The Hubble might last only another year if they don’t continue to improve it. They need to keep Hubble in service to understand how the universe works, so they can continue to find planets to colonize and to fulfill man’s need to explore.
The government should keep Hubble operational to understand more about how the universe works. NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope takes many beautiful images of planets and galaxies every day, and every one of those images shows the public something new about the universe. “It’s scientific instruments have revolutionized our understanding of the universe and its history”(Redd). Though Hubble has not found a planet holding life it has been able to find planets with products for producing life. “The Hubble Space Telescope is not the most prolific exoplanet hunter at astronomers disposal, but it has made unique and significant contributions to the discovery and study of far-off worlds”(Hunting for Planets). Hubble may not be the best at finding planets, but more than a few. Since it has sharp vision it has found some of the most far away planets today. “Hubble’s observation of water, carbon, oxygen, carbon dioxide and methane in those atmospheres proves we can hunt down some of the ingredients and byproducts of life when we do find habitable planets”(Alien Atmospheres). Instead, it is a subsection of the heading Other Spendings, which is given 2% of the federal budget. Also, in the Neil deGrasse Tyson article, it is said that the American government only gives a 7/10 cent of a tax dollar to space exploration (Tyson 2). “One small step for man, one giant step for mankind” - Neil Armstrong. Humans have been fascinated by stars and planets from the beginning of time.The human race has made some amazing discoveries; from drawings on cave walls, to putting somebody in space. Discoveries in space include finding new planets, technology, and theories. In recent years, there have been less discoveries due to a cut in NASA’s budget. This is because instead of the money going to NASA, the money goes to other organizations. The U.S should increase NASA’s budget because it helps find planets that could support life, creates more everyday objects, and gives ideas of how the earth might end.
The universe is about 15 billion years old yet we know very little about it. Exploring space costs billions of dollars a year, the cost is used to do different types of research from launching missions that go into space and explore planets or moons, or studying the stars from telescopes on Earth. Space exploration is important because it can be used as a great learning tool to find out more information about life on and off the Earth. The government should continue to fund space exploration because scientists have found water ice on Pluto, researched crops sustainable in space, and learned mars once had lakes.
Space exploration should be funded at even greater levels than at present. It has provided scientific, technological, and economic benefits for all mankind. Furthermore it will continue to provide these benefits as long as we continue to explore.

In the image there is a tiny little speck that is barely noticeable unless it is pointed out. That little speck is our planet.Government spending on NASA has helped to achieve this and it allows us to see things about our universe that we would have never have had been able to see before. NASA funding can be beneficial because it shows us things about our universe that we have never known and things we would have never thought to explore.This is what NASA is trying to accomplish. However NASA funding can be detrimental because it costs more and more each year and it pushes us into even more debt than what we are already in. This can contribute to the downfall of the economy and the nation as a whole because of the increase in spending, and will lead to cuts in other more crucial parts of the government and the economy where the money would be better spent. Government funding for NASA is a benefit to society but, it is also a detriment to society as well.
Space exploration funding has been drastically reduced since the conclusion of the Space Race. Even though the Space Race is no longer relevant, it has positively affected human civilization, and we should continue to invest in space exploration to continue this trend. The first and primary reason we should continue to work with space is to aid industries on earth. Most notable is the use of satellites for purposes such as commercial communications, the GPS system, and meteorology. The second reason is because humans have an inherent hunger for knowledge, and space funding helps us develop technology for seeing what’s beyond earth. Space probes such as New Horizons and telescopes such as the James Webb Telescope have expanded our knowledge
The impossible was reached on July 20th 1969 when we sent the first man on the moon. The Apollo missions are the largest and most well known explorations that NASA has conducted. Ever since we reached this new high, our curiosity of space has grown even bigger. Funding NASA’s space program even further will continue to help us amplify our available resources and discover new information to benefit humanity. Not only that, but it could provide many ways for us to find a new home and expand our species farther into our solar system, potentially saving future generations. For the government and Obama as president the belief is that they shouldn’t be given more money, and this countrywide program has no importance with the economy. But looking into the future it’s not just space, there is more out there then just black skies. The advancements and growth we have accomplished because of exploring and monitoring this environment is exponential. NASA themselves have not only contributed to exploring the vast, empty, yet strangely amazing area we call space, but they have also created products that we use in everyday life. The unfortunate thing is that NASA is receiving less and less of the funding that it needs in order to continue to operate at its top level. What's worse is that more and more people feel that NASA shouldn't be getting what it is now either, that they could go on with less. So then the question that needs to be answered is “Why should we keep funding NASA?”
Our space program the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA is underfunded and should receive more funding from our government. Since NASA’s founding they have done many significant things in history, we have all heard of Neil Armstrong the man on the moon and Apollo 12 a group of 12 astronauts successful trip to the moon and back. It has not just been these feats of technology accomplished either, the satellites in orbit around the Earth are something that they put up there and these tools have been invaluable communication around the world and even intelligence gathering for our country to keep it safe. So you see all these things, research and development, deploying more people into space for maintenance on our satellites require money and our government’s funding “has gradually fallen to about half a percent in recent years” according to CFR (Council on Foreign Relations) Backgrounds, this means NASA only has enough for critical operations and little remaining for else (Steven Markovich, Space Exploration and U.S. Competitiveness). NASA needs more funding if they want to continue approaching new frontiers of science and keep up with the rest of the world in space exploration.
In conclusion, the government needs to remain the use of its space program.There are many jobs in the space program. Eventually the basic necessities like food, water, and a place to live will be hard to come by. In 1946, an astrophysicist named Dr. Lyman Spitzer proposed that a telescope in space would reveal better and clearer images that are even far from earth than any ground telescope.
