In 1979, a band named "Huey Lewis and the American Express" was formed by Lewis. Very quickly the name of the band was changed to "Huey Lewis and the News". Unfortunately the first debut album was
Another important turning point in Lewis life was when he decided not to go to college. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go to college, but that Lewis felt that helping others were more important. On his application for the freedom riders, he wrote, “I know that education is important and I hope to get one, but human dignity is the most important thing in my life.” (Lewis 30) In other words, Lewis was willing to put his entire life on hold in able to help others and stand up for what he believed in. After being told no by his parents, he said, “In Nashville I’d meet people who opened my eyes to a sense of values that would forever dominate my moral philosophy—the way of peace, the way of love, the way of nonviolence.” (Lewis 70) So although Lewis didn’t get to

He was apart of one of the most known concerts ever, the Woodstock concert. Ny times says that Jerry and his group performed at the woodstock concert. The Woodstock concert was such an amazing thing in history. 400,000 people attended it. They say his voice was gentle and gleaming, as his guitar chimed. He was amazing at what he did. He did a great job and a big reason why is because he did what he loved and pushed him self. This made him so much better because when you love something
He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, today. It was called the social gospel… and I felt like he was preaching directly to me.” (Lewis and Aydin 1:56). MLK Jr. sparked John Lewis’s love to fight for what’s right to him personally, for example, his acceptance into Troy State. “But if you want to go, we’ll help… we’ll raise the money to file those suites, and we’ll support you all the way. But you must keep in mind… your parents could lose their jobs. Your family home could be bombed or burned.” (Lewis and Aydin 1:71). He and MLK Jr. worked on many projects together as it was in both of their interests. Lewis became very involved with non-violent protesting and everything MLK Jr. introduced him to. Everything the two of them did was always associated with the teachings of Christ. “His words liberated me. I thought this is it… this is the way out.” (Lewis and Aydin 1:78). MLK Jr. was in charge of a group called SNCC. In that group, he dealt with the religious aspects of the racism in the country.
John Robert Lewis was born and raised outside of Troy, Alabama on February 21st, 1940. Would you believe he is 76 years old? With that being said, Lewis had a happy childhood, but he needed to help his parents, who were sharecroppers who did not have much money.
He saw the hardship and racial injustice that his race had to go through growing up and used what he learned from Martin Luther King Jr and from the Bible. Then used those teachings of loving your enemy and using peaceful protest, instead of violence, to prove your point. Then after success of these protests led to desegregation in some establishments. The fight wasn’t over there Lewis helped out with the Freedom Rides that help add fuel to the fire of his determination and passion to help fight for rights. I feel these moments are key moments that helped shape one of the important leaders in the Civil Rights

Listening to Martin Luther King’s speech changed the way Lewis viewed everyday activities, he felt like he was not doing his part by sitting on the sidelines. “Dr. King’s message hit me like a bolt of lightning. He applied the principles of the church to what was happening now, Today. It was called the Social Gospel and I felt like he was preaching directly to me.” (Lewis Aydin 56). Lewis could not get enough information on MLK, he had to go to the library and look up everything he could about this man. This changed Lewis by opening his eyes to a bigger better world. He felt that MLK was different from any other leader and that’s exactly what Lewis wanted to do, but didn’t know how so his uncle took him on a trip to Buffalo.

The reason he was so important to this time in history is because his writing, “offers a transcription of urban life through a portrayals of the speech habits attitudes and feelings of an oppressed people. The poems do more, however, than

Despite serving for only one year as a paratrooper, Jimi was medically discharged in 1962 due to injury (Murray). However, during his short time in the military, Hendrix formed a band with fellow soldier, Billy Cox, and played for troops all over the country (“Jimi Hendrix Biography”). When Hendrix was discharged, he and Cox formed the band the King Kasuals, and played regularly in Nashville, TN (“Jimi Hendrix Biography”). A few of these musicians were Little Richard, the Isley Brothers, King Curtis, and Curtis Knight with whose manager, Ed Chaplin, he signed a contract with. This contract, however, failed, and Jimi moved himself and his band “Jimmy James and the Blue Flames” to New York in 1965. ‘Cafe Wha?’, in Greenwich Village, NY, was the club “Jimmy James and the Blue Flames” frequented most to perform in. When witnessing one of the band 's’ performances, concert-goer, Linda Keith, suggested to her friend Chas Chandler, former bassist of the band The Animals and new found music manager and producer (Armstrong).

The life of Langston Hughes was not an easy one. His mother and father separated some time soon after he was born. Mostly his mother in Kansas and his father who tried to discourage him from writing when Hughes went to Mexico some time later raised him.
