“Human trafficking deprives people of their human rights and freedoms, it is a global health risk, and it fuels the growth of organized crime. The impact of human trafficking goes beyond individual victims; it undermines the safety and security of all nations it touches (The United States Attorney 's Office Northern District of Iowa, 2015)”.
According to the United Nations, human trafficking can be defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by means of coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, or abuse of power of a position of vulnerability for the purpose of exploitation. Human trafficking occurs in every state of the nation and most victims of sex trafficking include U.S. citizens and noncitizens. In the United States, estimates suggest that over 300,000 women and children become victims of commercial sexual exploitation in relation to human trafficking. Sexual exploitation plays a huge part on individual victims, who often suffer physical and emotional abuse, rape, threats against self and family, passport theft, and even death. The impact of human trafficking on victims can take many forms and can have a lasting effect on the victim’s quality of life. Women and children are smuggled across national borders and forced in factories and brothels and made to perform sex acts against their will. One
This paper will explore human trafficking and the effects on its victims. The purpose of this paper is to design a research proposal on observable and indistinct characteristics. Outcomes of human trafficking vary widely and include mental disorders, trauma and resilience, pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Some may experience physical and mental abuse, along with physical exhaustion and starvation. Regardless of specific national differences, human trafficking characteristics are comparable among other countries. These common traits that individuals experience through trafficking are observable in any nation regardless of geographical location. These characteristics also can be found in regions that are considered first, second,
Globally, about 20 to 30 million people are involved in the human trafficking system, and of those, 14,500 to 17,500 people are trafficked in the United States every year. Human trafficking is more prevalent today then ever before. It is the third largest crime internationally. People are abused and taken advantage of. According to the article, “11 Facts About Human Trafficking,” on average, a person is forced into the system around age 9, and the majority of victims are women and girls, with a small percentage of men and boys. In addition, the human trafficking system is a $32 billion dollar industry. Human trafficking can be defined as the selling and trade of human beings, ranging anywhere from children to adults, for the purpose of
Human trafficking, or the selling and buying of people, is a well-hidden yet prominent issue within today’s society. It is both an immoral and horrific topic that needs brought to attention and dealt with. When human beings are manipulated into work, sexual servitude, or economic hardship, human trafficking is occurring. In the year of 2006, only one individual is convicted of human trafficking per 800 victims (UNGIFT). By looking at straight statistics, reasons human trafficking happens, and the toll it has on people, it is very clear that this is a major issue that is happening in our world.
Human trafficking has received increasing global attention over the past decade. Trafficking of women and girls for forced sex work and, to a lesser extent, domestic servitude, were the sole focus of advocacy and assistance. There is recognition in today’s society that women, children, and men are trafficked into many different forms of labour, and for sexual exploitation. In her article, “Understanding and Addressing Violence Against Women”, Cathy Zimmerman and Heidi Stockl focus on the commonality of human trafficking and how evident it is in everyday life. They bring in the health effects and possible solutions to human trafficking to help validate their opinion and argument. In the solutions they offer, Zimmerman and Stockl shine a light on policy-makers/decision-makers, health-care providers, and researchers/funders and what each of these groups of people can do to help combat the issue of human trafficking. In a quote from their article, Stockl and Zimmerman say: “Health care providers and organizations involved with trafficked persons should increase their capacity to identify and refer people in trafficking situations and provide sensitive and safe services to people post-trafficking”. This quote shows how Zimmerman and Stockl believe human trafficking should be combated by caring and talking to those affected by the issue but how they also believe awareness should be made about human trafficking so as to allow people surrounding the issue to identify and help victims of this issue. Zimmerman and Stockl’s view on the ways human trafficking should be combatted relate to those of Soroptimist due to the fact that the two groups of people are focused mainly on helping women and girls who have been trafficked and trying to get them to a better life after getting out of the trafficking situation. Both groups focus on helping men as well, providing options to help them such as raising money and awareness, and getting educated on being able to identify victims of human trafficking.
This essay also focuses on the issues of child – sex trafficking. The study claimed that trafficking women especially children for sexual slavery is one the fastest growing common criminal and a social issue in the world. The study states that in the united states, almost 6 in 10 identified trafficking survivors were trafficked for sexual abuse. Out of that figure, 98% of the victims are female and 70% of it are children. This because the number of victims of sex trafficking is children, this may go as young as the age of eight. This is because children are easy targets when

Oftentimes when people hear the term human sex trafficking, they think of heinous acts that take place in other countries where adults, children, girls and boys are exploited to perform sexual acts in exchange for money or goods against their will. They think it typically occurs in places that are less developed than the United States. However, the reality of this horrific crime is that it is taking place in the United States, and it occurs more and more each and every day. Young girls are not solely the victim of human sex trafficking, young boys are victims of this monstrous act as well. Individuals residing in the United States need to be made more aware of this issue as it has started to rise through social media, large events, and by those in other countries being promised work here. After researching, it is apparent that there is a great deal of information that is lacking, on sex trafficking in the United States. Not only is sex trafficking an issue, but the lack of awareness about sex trafficking is also an issue. This thesis proposes that human sex trafficking is an unacknowledged epidemic within the United States, and it seeks to discover why it has become so prevalent.
Within a day, anyone can be kidnapped and forced against their will. The global issue of human trafficking has several current problems that requires attention from most citizens. To start off with, human trafficking proves as the fastest growing crime around the world. Even when gun violence, theft, homicide, and murders occur, human trafficking rates increase every year more than an average crime. As a matter of fact, sex trafficking is recorded as the top trafficking issue, not only across the nation, but worldwide. One of the main reasons why such cases go unnoticed by the public eye is due to the victims believing that they are the ones committing the crime of prostitution. Even with traumatizing and petrifying events trafficked victims have to experience, no one could fathom or believe the fear they have of law
Sex trafficking is the second biggest transnational crime behind drug trafficking. This major crime occurs every day and many times in plain sight. Sex trafficking, also referred to as human trafficking, is a widespread crime that sells and forces vulnerable people to have sex. The average child between the ages of 11-14 years old are recruited for prostitution in the U.S (Sex Trafficking, 2014). This has become a global issue within the last decade affecting just about every country. The United States is the primary destination for trafficked victims from other countries. More should be done to heighten the awareness of the public to this growing problem in our country. The following will discuss the general characteristics
One of the most talked about issues our country is facing today, and will be facing in the upcoming years is the idea of human trafficking, whether it be for labor or sex trades. There was an estimated 4.5 billion people in 2014 that were victims of sex trafficking around the world (Gary). The sex trafficking industry, which is the most common form of human trafficking, is an extremely inhumane trade that takes girls, strips them of their privacy, and forces them to perform sexual act that ultimately scars them both mentally and physically forever. Daily average females are being forced into this industry where they experience years of unimaginable abuse and torture; and sadly have a hard time escaping.
Human Trafficking is a global problem. No one country can stop or even deter it alone. It is far too big of a “business” for that. It is a $150 billion dollar a year industry (Human Rights First, 2014). Of all the ranked crime in the world human trafficking is one of the most diverse in the scope of the crime, as well as the victim. Victims can be subjected to sexual exploitation, hard manual labor, forced private servitude and anything imaginable in between. They can range from small children to adults and may stay in their home country’s or be taken somewhere else. It is an
Human trafficking is one of the biggest crimes that is held all around the world continuing today. What is exactly human trafficking? It is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation (Healy, 2012). Many young girls are being taken from their homes and may never return. Also men and women are being trafficked. This happens in areas like fishing boats, construction sites, farms and factories, and brothels and private homes (Healy, 2012). It is shocking to know only one out of a hundred human trafficking victims get rescued. Out of those hundred people, 80% of them are known as sexual slaves. Out of that 80%, 21% of those victims are children. Human Trafficking is one of the
Human trafficking is a global phenomenon and is the criminal commercial trade of human beings. This act exploits human beings in involuntary acts such as forced labor,
Human trafficking is the present-day form of slavery that exploits individuals who are either coerced or forced for the purpose of commercial sex or labor exploitation.
Nothing drives our emotions or influences our understanding of horrific stories-than those of the modern-day trafficking. Human trafficking is a very problematic issue in our society today and more victims are being taken advantage of whether it’s through slavery, sexual exploitation, organ trade, or even forced labour. In most cases, the victims of trafficking is often known to be transferred from one country to another and forced to work for a benefit of the crime. In other words, it’s very common and known for the criminals to drug the victims or kidnap and force them to work as sex slaves. In reality, as a society we need to understand that people are slaved through like objects and sold to one another being treated with no respect. The victims are physically and mentally influenced under the problem of losing his or her dignity and pride of oneself. Sex trafficking is known to be very common in women, but men and children are also involved and are forced through extreme violence to take part in the trafficking act. In my research paper, I will identify and demonstrate as a student of social work on how human trafficking plays a role into my understanding and explore the oppression through the school of mission’s statement. I will provide different guides or advice as a social worker that women or other people in the part of trafficking act can take in order to improve one’s life.
