Can you imagine being put in an arena, where you fight to the death while others watch for enjoyment? This is the situation the main character of the Hunger Games is being put in. Katniss Everdeen volunteered for her sister to be put into the game known as the Hunger Games. This game is quite brutal as it is where people watch children ages 12-18 fight to the death. This girl faces many hardships and challenges throughout the book. These include the reapings, the actual games, and the leader of her area, President Snow. All of these things challenged Katniss throughout her experience of competing in the annual Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, is an adventure fiction novel filled with adventures and trials that will lead you to into the near distant future. In a place that was once known as United States of America, is now known as Panem, which is divided up in to twelve cruel districts. Forced by the nation’s capitol, one boy and one girl shall be chosen randomly to participate in the annual Hunger Games. Hunger Games, also known as the deathly journey when put in to an unknown place and requires you to fight until you are the last one standing. This may be seen as an enjoyable entertainment to those residing in the nations capitol; but to Katniss Everdeen, a courageous teenager, it is a death sentence that cannot be avoided.

In the novel, The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian young adult book that is based in Panem that is divided into twelve districts. Each year the districts have to send a boy and a girl into an arena to fight to the death. The novel’s protagonist is Katniss, who lives in the poorest district. Katniss makes the audience think of the important ideas of bravery, societal class and love.

To begin with, The Hunger Games is the first book in the Hunger Games Trilogy, and is written by Suzanne Collins. First off, the novel takes place in Penem, a make-believe future where the Capital is surrounded by districts. The Districts are like slaves to the Capital, give away resources to the Capital and only keep some resources to themselves; so you can imagine that the districts are very poor. The Capital also forces the districts to give up one boy and girl to go to annual Hunger Games, so to prevent War. Katniss, the main character in the book, ends up being part of the hunger games alongside with Peeta. Katniss then has to fight for her life because there may only be one victor. Lastly, throughout this book you’ll see conformity and civil disobedience play a huge role in the Hunger Games.

The book is about Katniss, a sixteen year old girl, who lives in district 12 with her mother and her sister, Prim. Each year, the Hunger Games are held, and a boy and a girl from each district are chosen to fight to the death. Prim is chosen but Katniss volunteers to take the place of her in the game. The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.

The reoccurring theme of rebellion made this book satisfactory. The concept of “The Hunger Games” is intriguing, and Collins pulls it off well.

Even though there is only supposed to be one survivor both Peeta and Katniss both get to return home because of a risky move that katniss polled that made the capital look bad.

There’s an old saying “ a picture is worth ten thousand words.” The hunger games is a novel and a film, the film was released after the novel. The movie and novel are about how every year they pick a female and male from every district for their national games on live television ,and they fight till death. In the story Katniss everdeen volunteered for her sister prim ,she and a boy peeta were both chosen for the hunger games during the reaping. In the novel and film katniss has little to survive on, she has to depend on her hunting skills and choose between love and winning.
