1. Here at the University of Florida, I am studying Finance. However, I did not start out in the Finance field. At the beginning of my Freshman fall semester, I was enrolled as a Nuclear Engineering major. After taking Chemistry and other introductory engineering courses, I realized the science aspect of it all was not for me. I came to the conclusion that I was more interested in the math side of things so I switched to a math-related major, Finance. My aunt was a Finance major here at UF and I have always been fascinated when she talks about her career path. Finance involves a different kind of math than just algebra or calculus. The type of math (like accounting for instance) that Finance includes interests me because it is geared …show more content…
Therefore, in order to reach my five-year goal, I need to experience getting involved, on and off campus. On campus, I need to join clubs such as Student Finance Group and others that will help shape me into a more well-rounded student. I also need to intern at various companies. Not only will interning look good for future endeavors due to the hands-on learning experiences, but interning will also allow me to get a better idea of what I want to do with my degree when I graduate 1. One new skill I learned from the Lynda.com video series is how to create new tables in Microsoft Word. I also learned how to format each row and column of a table. I believe this will help me in the financial field in which I am choosing to go in to because this skill will help me to organize information. Some information I may need to organize in my future career might be someone’s personal financial data for a financial statement. Tables make the information easier to read. For an individual who might not know much about financial lingo if it were in a long page of wording, tables seem to simplify confusing paragraphs of information. Tables will also be helpful to make if I need to organize data in order to give a presentation to someone. People tend to respond better when data is organized into a simple structure rather than having to read it in a letter. Also, tables can be more pleasing to the eyes and assure that important
Going into my freshman year at Liberty University, I knew I wanted to major in accounting. I understood that a BS in Accounting would set me up with many options in the business world to make up to six digits. However, I did not know exactly what I wanted to do with my degree. The FOCUS 2 Career Exploration Worksheet showed me many options that my degree would give me, along with the pay that goes with each. This helped me to narrow it
Everglades University was founded in 1990 under the name American Flyers College. Although they originally only offered Associate of Science Degrees, they changed their name in 2000 and added a variety of Bachelor of Science degrees. These include standard majors, such as business administration and Information Technology, and harder to find majors such as aviation management and professional aviation. In fact, Everglades University was one of the first higher learning institutions to offer an accredited Bachelor of Science degree in alternative medicine. Everglades University’s mission is to provide a quality education experience to adult student by creating an academically collaborative environment
I will be attending Mississippi State University and majoring in business; in hopes of becoming a personal financial advisor. While attending college, I plan to gain a vast number of tools to guide myself and others to a greater financial state. I also plan to become a certified educator because in our area the occupation is vital to the development of our youth. Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge
May had come around at long last, and my first two semesters of college at Florida Atlantic University were over. Not only had I survived my freshman year, I also thrived, passing eight of my nine combined courses with A’s and getting an A-minus in the other one. If casinos all over the country made it achievable for people to place bets on the odds of any given student in any given college emerging successful at the end of any given semester, chances are I would’ve been a far greater underdog to come out smelling like roses than “Neon” Leon was to beat the recently departed Muhammad Ali in February 1978. But the same way Leon shocked Ali I defied my own hopes and those of some among the closest friends and family I know. Did I soon find
More specifically, my background in economics has also established a fundamental knowledge of many financial theories and concepts, as well as proficiency with statistics and data analysis. My curiosity and eagerness to expand my financial acumen naturally led me to be actively involved and hold leadership positions in multiple extracurricular groups such as DePauw’s highly selective Investment Banking Workshop and the Investment Group. On top of this, I have been able to apply the skill set I have acquired in the classroom to professional settings through a variety of internships within the finance industry, including commercial banking, investment banking, and also for an institutional trading and risk management company. Exposure to different sectors in finance has not only furthered my interest in pursuing finance as a career but has also allowed me to develop important proficiencies in financial modeling and
I am currently doing my masters in Applied Engineering and Technology Management at Murray State University and it’s my second semester at Murray. This program has been designed in such a way that people who want to improve their knowledge of Industrial Management, Leadership and Technology will prefer it. This program is mostly for the students having backgrounds in technology, engineering, science, or business management. My long standing goals comprises of rising with a company where I can take more responsibilities, learn new work and contribute as much as I can. I want to see myself as a top performing leader in a well-developed company as well as I plan to enhance my skills and continue my involvement in the professional companies.
Going to college will be a massive step in my life, even graduating from high school. First off, I plan to major in Accounting and become a Public Certified Accountant. I have been told that it will be hard, just going to class will not cut it. You have to be on top of schoolwork making sure you have it turned in on time and more. I chose K-State University because I could see my future there on campus getting through it all. I thought K-State had the best Business program and so much more. Looking at other colleges wasn’t a bad choice but I couldn’t see myself on their campus as much as I did with K-State. Second, I want to get involved in groups that would be good for me. I do not know all the kinds of groups are on campus but I’m sure I will find out. I hope to start off with
According to the Gallup-Purdue Index Report, only 39% of the over 30,000 college graduates surveyed had experienced elements of well-being as well as felt engaged in their work (Great Lives 7). Interestingly, the study also found there was no difference if they attended a public, private, non-selective, or a highly selective institution (7). Therefore, graduates of the University of North Florida (“UNF”) are doing the same in job engagement and well-being as graduates from all other colleges. Thus, less than half the graduates from UNF enjoy overall good lives; UNF must do better. UNF must revise its education policy with the goal of having all of its graduates enjoy good jobs and good lives.
Florida State University and University of Florida are both superb Universities. Both have outstanding programs and are both located in college towns. certainly, when you compare the environment and diversity of the two schools, you do in fact realize that there are the same. Although there are many similarities between Florida State University and the University of Florida, few differences tend to exist. Choosing a university to attend can be very stressful, Florida State University really caught my eye because of their outstanding programs, environment, and the cost of schooling.
“The decision to study finance opens doors to perhaps some of the widest ranges of jobs available, as every type of organization needs financial assistance and oversight, no matter what they do. There is no question that the recent financial crisis has changed the landscape of careers in finance, but finance remains among the most competitive and attractive of all career fields (International student)”. The purpose of this paper is to describe two (2) financial career options that an individual with a finance education might pursue and explain the value that such a position adds to a company. The two financial career options that a person with finance education might pursue are financial specialists and finance analysts.
Up until recently, I was like many of my peers, uncertain about what the future would hold for me. I did not know where exactly I wanted to attend school, what I wanted to study, or what I wanted to do career-wise. But, after taking high school classes like Business Information Management, Human Resources, Banking and Financial Services, and Accounting I, I found my long awaited answer, a fascination in the business and financial world. I loved attending these classes and learning new and exciting
After completing my bachelor’s degree at Florida State University in the fall of 1997, I began my career at a small hospital in Largo, Florida. I started on a thirty eight bed cardiac/telemetry unit. I had the fortunate opportunity to orient with a seasoned nurse who loved her career in nursing. She was an enthusiastic preceptor that not only educated me on the tasks of nursing but inspired and introduced me to critical care and critical thinking. I spent the next three years at this hospital working in the Coronary Care Unit until deciding to become a travel nurse and see the country. I began travel nursing with my best friend and we worked in Florida, Washington D.C., New York and Denver. At all of these locations we worked in the intensive care unit. Each experience provided a different population and vast new experiences.

These services include financial and investment planning, business financial management, and banking insurance, but these are just a few of the many examples. I plan to use all the tools I learned and apply them to my academic career as well as my place of employment. It is pleasing to know a person can use different software to help guide there accomplishments and goals. I am excited to Use excel to keep track of my payment and calculating the amount of money I need to save or spend this week. With this information I have the opportunity to improve my organization. As a replacement for taking extra steps I can achieve more in a rapid and diligent fashion. In addition I am pleased with the new information I have learned and excited to absorb more ways to apply the computer to everyday
My goals for the start for my internship were simple, but quickly evolved. My goals were to gain experience and build my resume, while bringing the lessons I have learnt in college, and using my skills as an engineer to help the department of public works. Now my goals have become more specific; I would like to learn more about sewer operations, I would like to develop my computing and design skills using the tools available to the Hydraulic section and I would like to mature as an engineering professional. While at the hydraulics section, I have access to programs like MUNSYS, as well as ArcGIS. As an intern, I update and maintain sewer related features on these programs. I would like to learn everything I can to develop my skills as a designer to help me become a better engineer.
