Act 1 Scene 1 Set in a 1966 style restaurant in Michigan, in present day America. ELIJAH and MELISSA are sitting at a table MELISSA: Oh Elijah, this…this is beautiful, oh thank you (MELISSA kisses ELIJAH on the cheek) ELIJAH: That’s alright, sweetheart. I just love making you smile (pulls out Melissa’s chair) MELISSA: That is very thoughtful of you Elijah. So, what’s on the menu? ELIJAH: Ah! Here is the waiter (ELIJAH gestures to the waiter) WAITER: Good evening madam. Good evening sir. What would you like to order this evening? ELIJAH: Well, how about we call you back when we make a decision? Has the madam left? ELIJAH: (chuckling) no, she will be back soon WAITER: I am sorry, but I may have unintentionally heard your conversation ELIJAH: Oh…ah…well (speaks in confused tone) (Melissa comes back) MELISSA: Elijah. ELIJAH: Melissa. WAITER: Elijah, Melissa (sorry I heard your names), if it makes any difference, I would like to tell you that I am a gay man as well. At first, my ‘coming out’ was not received very well by my fellow colleagues, especially in this business. So Melissa, I am hoping that you will at least accept Elijah for the man that he is. (waiter walks off stage) (awkward silence between MELISSA and ELIJAH) MELISSA: Elijah, I am extremely sorry for my actions earlier, I do still respect you for who you are. I am sorry to have to say this Elijah, but if we end our relationship now, it will save us the pain of doing it later. ELIJAH: Yes Melissa, I do agree. It is for the best. MELISSA: Before we make this official, can we call back the waiter. There is something I need to say to him. (Waiter enters) WAITER: Ah!. I see you are ready to make your orders? MELISSA: Before we do that, there is just something that I wanted to say to you
The second character count we discussed in class is respect. Respect is “a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious, etc., and should be treated in the appropriate way” or treating people and their property with the kindness they deserve (Merriam-Webster). Respect is being polite, showing deference to those in rightful authority, and not gossiping. Being polite is treating people with the kindness they deserve. The obvious example is saying please and thank you. Some other examples of respect from politeness is not talking on cell phones in cafes, stores, restaurants, and other public places where the conversations can disturb others. Others are not cutting in line and not cutting people off in traffic. Also,

Martie rushed off of the phone with Richard and went over to Kim’s table. “I’m sorry I lost track of time, I was on my break. What would you like to order?” Martie asked.
“Can I top you up, Miss?” Gillian jumped as a waiter offered her another hot beverage. Snapping back to reality, she realized she was still sitting on the patio of her favorite café and not about to take a stroll with a Grand Duke.

The Fourth Act of The Duchess "The first necessity of baroque is that the audience should be gripped, excited, moved" [1] - so says Ralph Berry. The fourth act of The Duchess of Malfi certainly succeeds under all these criteria, being the dramatic crux of the play. The events that occur in the first scene are undoubtedly crucial, but it is the characters' vastly varied reactions to them that are vitally important. Rich imagery is deeply interwoven with the fabric of play - indeed, it is an essential part of its function - and the scene's proceedings are completely overshadowed by the telling relationship between Ferdinand, Bosola and the Duchess that is explored throughout act IV, scene i.
“Just don’t ask today, I’ll explain the reason tomorrow. The restaurant is in downtown and there’s many people there. Don’t worry about any danger.”
“Why, I am placing my first and only check of acceptable next to your name. You might as well sit down and eat. We’re going to be around each other for a long time.”
When Montano asks Cassio that is Othello married or not.Cassio replied: “he hath achieved a maid. That paragons description and wild fame; One that excels the quirks of blazoning pens,And in the essential vesture of creation,Does tire the ingener”(2.1.66-72).
"I..uh I'm gonna go..so...yeah nice meeting you Michael and ....uhm" dammit..forgot her name what was it...molly? No..Kelly? Nah.. Taking notice that I'm standing there awkwardly I nod and quickly leave out the cafe.

We quickly pour the beers into the glasses and return the bottles to the waitress to save space. I begin to wonder about the menu I noticed upon entering. This table no bigger than my chair could never support the space required for a meal for one.
The waiter introduces himself, Tarek, and walks me to my table. “For one?” Yes, for one. Just me and my taste buds lingering to taste a sweet memory from the past.
