“I got a 1810 on the SAT plus I have a 4.0, and I already got into UGA so I'm going to most likely apply to their honors college then become a veterinarian.” This a comment commonly heard by classmates of mine, and as you can see these kids have their entire life planned out right now. Although other students like me aren't as fortunate to have their entire life prearranged in high school. In life we can set ourselves up for the best possible outcome, we can try our best, do our best, and hope for the best, but ultimately it is all up to fate. Even though I may not have my entire life decided, as of now I do have an idea; and I’ve been working to build characteristics about my self to help propel me in the right direction. Persistence and …show more content…
For my years to come in a short amount of time I intend on accomplishing many great goals. As any other senior in high school my main goal right now is to graduate high school. Following high school, my main goal is to be accepted into the University of Georgia to study in their College of Arts and Sciences with the intent on becoming a pediatric dentist. During my time in college, whether it be at the University of Georgia or not, I am determined to study abroad in Oxford or London, England. I have chosen to participate in this program in order to expand my perception of the world and its people. Being a young woman from the hometown of Lithonia, Georgia and having the mother that I have, I have not seen anything outside of the states that border Georgia. This opportunity to study abroad will be my chance to experience a culture fresh and new unlike the one that I have been accustomed to for eighteen years. With this experience I will anticipate the opportunity to become a Rhodes Scholar and bring my education to the UK. These all are priorities of mine, and I must assure that I set myself in the right position to achieve …show more content…
I have been influenced to complete my life long goal of becoming a pediatric dentist because of the impact of my mother’s life has had on me. The deterioration of my mother’s teeth due to the disease Lupus has swayed me towards wanting to improve the dental hygiene of people at some of the youngest ages possible. Not only will want to improve dental hygiene, but I also want to provide dental services for struggling families in my community that are not able to afford dental care. This will be my way of giving back to the community that raised me my entire life. Once I establish myself as a successful dentist here in Georgia I plan to return to England and continue my practice there, bettering the standard of dental hygiene. Along with expanding my career I aspire to build a family of my own and continue my life in England. Apart from these aspirations I will continue to make goals for myself and assist the global dental communities of the
- My experience in Dentistry has been wonderful in the past 6 years. The whole journey from carving the anatomy of teeth on wax to performing complex dental procedures was spectacular. My desire to retrace my steps into dentistry has grown as I took it as a challenge. I have taken great care to continue my education by participating with professional healthcare providers in the field. I have evolved as an outspoken clinician by interacting with people belonging to different economics groups, races, and languages. Therefore dentistry has
There is nothing glamorous about putting on scrubs everyday but it is beautiful to be an integral part of a patient taking an interest in their health. The oral cavity is intricately associated with the rest of the body and a fundamental, but often forgotten part of overall health. As a dental hygienist I have the opportunity to educate and help people improve or maintain their periodontal health. I would like to transfer because I have a huge desire to educate future registered dental hygienists and by continuing my education I will be equipping myself to be a stronger leader and mentor for students. Dental hygiene is my passion and my desire is to share my enthusiasm for dental hygiene with future generations of dental hygienists. The
As a young student, people tend not to plan out what they’ll do in the future. As a middle schooler, they think, “What does it matter? It’s all so far off.” Then they get into high school and the pressure is heightened. As a freshman, people are telling us, “Start planning now!” I remember hearing it from all of my teachers, but I never quite started doing so. Instead, I would just let it sit in the back of my mind. “What are my goals?”, I would think to myself. Then one day at the end of sophomore year, on the edge-of-the-edge of leaving high school, I realized the time is now. It’s time to start planning.
Because of this circumstance, I have decided to utilize my college experience as an opportunity to learn more about myself and what I love. Many youth feel as if they need to plan their lives out ahead of time and that they should know what career to pursue by the time they graduate; being lost and confused about the future, however, is not only limited to our teens. For this reason, I wish to encourage my peers to treat their college experience the same way. Finding out what we are passionate about and pursuing it is important not only because it allows us to avoid ennui, but also because it is a powerful motivator that helps people grow and reach new
Exposing myself to the field of dentistry through Pre-Dental Student’s Association, I found myself drawn to helping underserved areas and limiting socioeconomic differences from restricting individuals from pursuing dental care. Participating in numerous dental events and gaining experience at community clinics allowed me to help treat local neighborhood members with dire dental needs. Setting up events and allowing patients to receive teeth extractions and cavity fillings were several interventions which increased the pride patients took in their teeth and their outward experience. Flourishing their self-esteem, it allowed them to be more highly functioning members in the social matrix of today’s society. In making such a memorable, solid impact on human life it became evident that a career marked by providing critical and immediate help was indispensable to me and further deep-rooted my decision to practice dental
“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” Tony Robbins, American author and motivational speaker, knows how setting goals can change a person’s path to success (Tony Robbins Quote). Growing up, people often do not know what to do with their “blank slate.” As most students head to college, this “blank slate” is still reasonably empty. When students are able to envision their future through goals and add to their “blank slate,” their success arises in mysterious ways. Coming to college, I have begun to establish a rough sketch of goals on my own “blank slate.” College has always been an idea that terrifies me in the most underlying way because of the much larger risk of failure. In college, reality becomes
When I came into high school, I had the same optimism I do today and decided to not only take the five core courses required but to tack on an additional foreign language and to write for the Evergreen. My parents, teachers and peers constantly tried to warn me from this academic path but I persisted and convinced myself that I can do everything I set my mind to. Shortly into the school year I tried to make sure that I didn't give in to a pessimistic outlook as homework and articles were piled upon me. This school year I follow the same schedule as my freshman year, with the additional language and Evergreen. But I know I can, if I set my mind to something, I can accomplish
I hope to one day use my background in epidemiology and public health to educate patients on oral health prevention, eliminate health disparities, improve existing community programs, and develop new programs that can sustain continual care. I want to use my research experience to lead studies to discover new and innovative treatments and methods to advance the field of dentistry. As a future dentist, I can positively influence large communities of people in a multitude of ways. Additionally, the field is scientifically rigorous and allows me to exercise my mental capacity. Through my experiences, I have learned that dentistry is exactly what I have looked for; it is the perfect harmony between intellect and human
I began working at Arnold Palmer Hospital for children in 2006, in which I began as an advanced clinical tech in acute pediatrics; completed a nursing internship; and began my nursing career as a graduate Nurse in 2007. Since graduation, I've obtained 9.5 years of nursing experience consisting of Pediatric acute care, Pediatric emergency nursing, and a patient Flow Supervisor at Nemours children's hospital. I two national nursing certifications in Pediatric nursing and Pediatric emergency nursing, and graduated with my BSN from the University of West Florida in 2014. Pediatrics brings such a unique perspective in health care that I fell in love with it and knew that I wanted to become a Pediatric Nurse from the moment I completed my Pediatric
My decision to pursue dentistry came about after great insight and thoughtfulness. Many experiences at various times in my life have led me to recognize my capabilities, desires, and passions which have eventually paved the path of dentistry. Over the years, growing up in India, a country so glaringly deficient of adequate healthcare services, ignited the passion in me to contribute by being a healthcare provider. Throughout my school years, my primary interest was science and I was an active and successful participant at the annual science fair for many years. At school, I made multiple practical science projects while also finding time to practice and enjoy my childhood passion for painting. By the time I reached high school, I began to recognize that dentistry would be the most appropriate career choice for me as it incorporated my passion of community service through healthcare with my capabilities of hard work, determination and manual dexterity.
My current career interest is to become an orthodontist. This job career is something I wanted to do for as long as I can remember. I am a hard working, sociable, persistent individual that will pursue every challenge that is placed in front of me in order to achieve excellence and success. This career choice is also one that follows an individual for the remainder of their life. Once a dental student earns their degree and has finished all of their schooling, they are out in the world, ready to begin their work. They don't normally decide to take time off and come back to their profession. They have the luxury of doing dentistry up until retirement so they might as well take advantage of that. Dentist will always be in high demand going forward. I believe this job would be something that I could take great pride in every day.
With my pre-dental student peers at UC Berkeley, I participated in Dental Education Outreach Program and a dental service trip to Panama, which gave me better insight into the realities of public health inside and outside the United States. While spending my time in Panama, I gained a true appreciation for dentistry as a profession whose work is not limited to in-office care, but one that allows to reach out to the greater public. The help that I could provide to those communities were limited without professional skills, but I would like to go back and help in the most needed regions in the world after achieving my professional goal to become a skilled clinician in dental
Although I have excelled in various subjects, my greatest academic excellence has been in the subjects of Biology, Sociology, and Mathematics. These subjects sparked my curiosity earlier during my high school career because I have always had a passion for science and math since I aspire to be a Pediatric Surgeon. Not to mention, there are several factors that have contributed to my excellence in these particular subjects such as my willingness to learn and my ambition.
There are situations that prevent an individual from accepting themselves; however, it becomes imperative to rise above these challenges and embrace the outcomes. Throughout my childhood, I had complications with a frenum muscle. As a result of a laser procedure, my front teeth had spaces. Ultimately, Dr. Robert Guindi gave me a smile I have come to love by placing veneers. The treatment was painful, long, and challenging; nevertheless, it was rewarding. He reestablished my self-confidence and enabled me to feel beautiful. The agonizing journey that led me to Dr. Guindi confirmed my career choice because I want to be a dentist that can provide patients with that feeling of beauty and self-acceptance regardless of the challenges.
As a child, I was always told to do nothing other than your best. I’ve carried that on to everything I do. I’ve always tried my best in school and in my extracurricular activities, which push me to keep my grades up. After I finish high school I plan on studying pediatric dentistry because i find teeth and all the different kinds fascinating. Pediatric Dentists are crucial in today’s society to make sure that children’s mouths are disease and cavity free and keep them healthy. I think that in 10 years pediatric dentistry and dentistry as a whole with be technologically advanced to spot things in mouth’s that cannot be seen by the human eye. I think the most important issues faced by pediatric dentists is the fact that children are more
