Rough Draft Identity is what defines us as a person. Everyone one on earth has their own unique identity. To showcase my identity, I created a collage of images and descriptive words, called an identi-kit. This identi-kit shows what I feel like is my identity to myself and the others. My identi-kit identifies me as a mixed martial artist. The identi-kit has images of a deadly shark with mixed martial arts gloves on that say mixed martial arts on the front and fight shorts with the words competitor and warrior on them. It also has descriptive words like “killer instinct” and “fight” which describe my spirit. There are three assumptions that come to question when asking about one’s identity. The first is if you were born with this …show more content…
The two that are my favorite have the words “Warrior” and “Competitor” on them. These words were chosen to reflect my identity as a competitor and a warrior when it comes to mixed martial arts and life in general. One image on the identi-kit shows the word “Hayabusa” which is the fastest falcon in the world. To me hayabusa means to be fast and quick but do not hurry. The Hayabusa is the fastest bird in the world that is fast and quick but does not screw up. My life revolves around working fast and quick but not to mess up at the same time. The images and phrases put together on the identi-kit help others to identify me because they are all very descriptive and imaginative. The identi-kit forms my identity to other people because to train and compete in mixed martial arts you have to be much disciplined, self-motivated, and have the killer instinct to go and fight with another human being. I was born with my identity and at the same time influenced and made the choice to do what I do. My identity was created by all three assumptions of identity while with others it could be just one or two assumptions that made who they are. I was born with me living my life in the fast lane. I have to keep on moving and trucking without ever stopping. I was born with my killer instinct and passion for competition. My involvement in mixed martial arts was influenced and a choice. Everyone has their niche in life. Some people are good at football, others in academics, while I was good
For our Group presentation, we decide to explore the theme of Expressing Identity. It was really difficult for our group to come up with ideas on how to show our understanding of this theme. We came across the concept of identity throughout our photo boards in our first assessment for this paper. I found it really hard to define identity. According to Lawler (2008), there is no singular definition of identity and it can be interpreted differently varying for each individual. For example, I define myself as a Samoan, sister, daughter, aunty, cousin, niece, Methodist, a AUT student and a hard working mother who is trying to do better for the sake of my family. We can make up our identity in
I believe the shield I made represents myself meticulously. Starting with the color of my shield. I painted my shield silver because silver represents sensitivity, and mystery. This color is also meant to reflect negative energy back to where it came from. I chose a peacock to represent myself because it represents integrity which means staying true to your values and yourself. I chose the quote “The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.” I selected this quote because while playing sports and doing activities people have told me I will never be able to achieve a goal I’ve been working towards. After someone tells me that it makes me want to work harder to achieve my goals intentions objectives. Lastly to symbolize
Identity is a very in depth topic that explores someone’s inner self, simply putting it; identity is what makes you the way that you are. I have honestly never pondered this question in such depth. So receiving this essay, it was bittersweet, I have never pondered this question before, but on the other hand, being the age that I am it is important to understand my identity so this is a good opportunity to do so. While pondering this question, I have found that my identity consists of different elements that contribute to who I am. These elements include my religion, my character traits, talents, environment, and my aspirations and my passions. These elements influence the choices I make that strengthen and broaden my identity.
They eye has a blue and yellow outline, which yield a very pleasing, bright color combination. They eyebrow is slanted up to portray a happier, more relaxed look. The red plus represents the medical field, a field I hope to get into as it is my favorite. The orange and blue man right next to the plus sign represents martial arts, a hobby in which I kept for six to seven years and I still plan on keeping. The other half of the mouth is pointed upwards, showing satisfaction and happiness with the peace I managed to attain with myself. On top of the eyebrow, there are two symbols (the soccer ball and the A+ grade) which represent some of my high school goals. These goals are to obtain good grades and make the varsity soccer team (just to name a few). To the side of the mask, one may see a shooting star, which is an allusion to the saying “shoot for the stars”. My goals are to shoot for the stars, and I will stop at nothing to achieve them. Finally, below the mouth, there is an attempted drawing of a fist. The fist symbolizes the will and dedication I have to move on and achieve my goals. The significant colors I used for the good side of the mask are blue, orange, red, and yellow. They are bright colors and I was able to make some neat combinations which I used in the mask. The bright colors symbolize brightness in my life as I beat whatever overcome me in my
An individual’s identity is molded by various aspects. Family, culture, personal interests, and outlaying environment all of them are factors tending to shape the personality of individuals. Personally, I tend to question myself whom I am and always think of what it takes to be a person. Out of these thoughts, I do get some of my personal identities. The most salient identity I get is my religion.
Have you ever thought about your identity, what represents you? What defines you as a person? There are many factors on what shapes identity, such as appearance, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc., but there are two factors that speak to me most when it comes to understanding identity, gender and race. After reading articles talking over the importance of identity and seeing the powerful impact it brings to this world, it immediately made me think of what defines myself, and I quickly thought of the relationship between gender and race. Identity correlates our lives every single day, your name gives you so much meaning as a person. I believe
In the Merriam Webster dictionary “identity” is defined as the distinguishing character or personality of an individual. Everyone and everything has an identity or something that identifies them. For me this identity is photography.
Some of the things that have shaped me into the person that I’m today are my family, the people that I grow up around, and some of the events In my life. There are many events that have shaped me into the person that I’m today and not revengeful. Also the people that I have grown up around has dramatically helped shape me into the person I am and not winsome and irrevocable. My family is one of the main things that have helped shape me into the responsible and capable person I’m yo day. One of my early memories winsome is of my mom working and going to school at the same time to take care of eleven kid son her own. We also used to have a garden and we would go there every day to take care of the plants. But my mom
You may be questioning what identity is. According to dictionary.com, identity is individual characteristics by which a person or thing is being recognized for. Your personality could be shy, athletic, or nerdy and others can see it. It is your feature that
Identity, as loosely described by the speakers, is something that defines us - a definition I too would use. Our identity can consist of our interests and characteristics, among many other factors. It is our title, and sometimes even our purpose; and all things involved are shaped overtime by the ever-changing circumstances we face.
The Oxford English dictionary, describes identity as “being who, or what a person is, and the characteristics determining who, or what that person is.” But, identity is much more complex than its dictionary definition. Although the word “identity” is used correctly in everyday discourse, its meaning is not captured by the definition.
what do you think when your here the word identity . I think of what makes you, you and how you act. Here is a idea if I never tried soccer I think i would not be the same at all i probably wouldn't know things that i know and react the way I react, so just thinking that playing a sport you love can change your life. I also think the people you hang around will hugely impact what you are you can change in so many different ways by the people you met and they can effect your life for ever. The last thing I think identity is your family they teach you very valuable things in life and you want to grow up and be like them or you want to be completely different you don't think you grow up the right way.
According to merriam-webster.com, the definition of identity is “the distinguishing character or personality of an individual”. I believe that a person’s identity is comprised of many things, including the type of people they hang out with and their actions towards other people. Your identity is how other people see you. I also believe that a person’s identity can change over time due to something like a traumatic event or even the maturity that person gains as they grow older. There are many ways to describe who I am as a person and my identity. I believe the three main facets of my identity are sports, reliability, and, most importantly, the fact that I am a brother.
In recent discussions of identity, what makes up your identity has been a controversial issue. On one hand, some argue that identity is found in your culture and how your culture makes you. On the other hand, some say identity is found in events that make you who you are. In “The Girl with the Red Dot”, Ranjant Nellore gives a definition of identity. She states it as “the condition of being oneself and not another.”
Identity is based on the events that have occurred in our life’s that have has a significant impact on our individualized ways of thinking. Growing up in a poor family taught me that time is more important than money, and it’s only worth what you make of it. It also taught me that true friends will continue to support you no matter the circumstances. I have experienced many bad relationships with other people. Ones who only want to hurt you to make them feel better about themselves, who will steal from you and distort your perception of a healthy relationship. I have been tormented for not believing and or following in another’s beliefs or methods of living, even If we have similar desires and conclusions about the unknowns of life. It also
