how long does the Iditarod trail sled dog race take to finish? where does it go? what's with all those dogs? these are all questions you might have about the Iditarod.
in 1920 there was an epidemic in Nome Alaska. they did not have the medicine to cure it so they needed some help the closest place was Anchorage Alaska. that is where they had to get medicine from. but apparently, there were only two planes in the whole state and none worked in winter. so they had to result to dog sleds but it wasn't one big trip they took relays. every one hundred miles they would give the medicine to the other dog sled. that is the reason on how the Iditarod trail came to be. today they do not take the same route.
Nowadays the trail is over 1000 miles for
In the years after the Civil War, Texas seemed to be the land of opportunity. Northern pioneers, newly freed slaves, some Mexican citizens, and cattle poured into Texas. Business savvy cattlemen acted on the high demand of beef in the United States. They assembled herds of free-ranging wild cattle together in South Texas for drives up the trail to railhead markets in Kansas. The men who worked on the cattle trails imagined themselves as cowboys, but never imagined the hard labor that would follow. They left home as young, naïve, but brave men only to return after one season on the trail toughened and wise.
One day when I was about 8 years old I wanted to learn how to barrel race. So my uncle decided to teach me how. I was pretty small so he allowed me to use his short horse. The first day went pretty well I got on and me and my cousin went for a little ride to warm up. When it was mine turn to go around the barrels we started at a walk. Everything was going great until I pulled at her mouth to hard and she reared up. I fell off and when she turned to run away she kind of stepped on me and broke my arm. It didn’t hurt at firsts but when it did I balled into tears. So I was takin to the emergency room and they had to give me a cast, it was blue and hard like a brick.
Aliens found one American logger interesting, and the story was a news sensation. The abduction of Arizona logger Travis Walton happened in 1975. It even inspired the film Fire in the Sky. If an event like this took place today, government officials would be forced to come clean about aliens, because the Internet buzz would be too large to ignore. The alien group was made up of three short bald alien men, but this is all Walton remembers. Was he telling the truth?
The Iditarod is a rugged 1,000-mile dogsled race through the Alaskan wilderness. It is physically and mentally threatening for both human and dogs. Training or the race requires a great amount of time and effort, as well as 100% effort on the part of the musher, the driver of the dog team. Training also requires a great amount of knowledge, from selecting the right dogs and equipment to veterinary skills needed on the trail. The key word to any training is consistency to set the same rules and expect the same performance all the time. We spend lots of time with the dogs, playing and cleaning and feeding and taking them out on the trail. The young dogs learn a lot from the older dogs, so in the autumn all the dogs are trained together. The puppies
A backpacking trip in Red River Gorge Kentucky makes my senses come alive. I love to go out into the unknown for a week or weekend and the best way to do this is to pack a bag, get in the car and drive till something good comes before you. Only then can one experience the true nature to express its beauty.
One day on a stunning Sunday afternoon, where the sun was shining and I was radiant as can be, I decided to explore nature’s wonders by going hiking on the Greenbelt trail. When I arrived at the trailhead, It seemed like the perfect day to trek the trail. I was greeted by birds, squirrels, bears, any creature you can think of reached out to shake my hand. It seemed like such a breathtaking adventure. When I began my hike, I couldn’t help but stop at all the amazing scenery that screamed out at me. In the far distance I saw lakes, dark hedge trees, and mountains. I thought to myself, “Right after I finish my hike I should go explore those lakes!” because I couldn’t end my day with just this hike. After I was on the trail hiking for about 30 minutes, crossing many bridges, I was tasked with a difficult decision.
Ski racing is an adrenaline pumping, fast paced, awakening sport, that happens to have an uncommonly high rate of injury. Ski racing has always been a somewhat dangerous sport in which it is not a surprise when a downhill skier suffers a serious injury. This being said, there is a lot more progress to be made to reduce the frequency of injuries in ski racing. There are many studies being done to see exactly how dangerous ski racing is and many more to see how to reduce the rate of injury. Regulations implemented to the sport in recent years have helped to lower the frequency of injuries significantly; however, there is much more work to be done. The research done by the British Journal of Sports Medicine showed that almost every World Cup/

Growing up from a small town in northwest Kansas there wasn’t much to do besides get in trouble, well it sure seemed like it. For most families in the area they would take family vacations to Rocky Mountain National Park. It was only a few hours away and there was a million things to do while there. Have you ever seen something so beautiful it took your breath away? This is how I feel every time I am in the mountains.

When it snows everyone has their own preference of what they like to do with it. Some like to go outside and build a snowman or fort, some like to toss snowballs at one another, while some would rather be inside, next to a fireplace, while they watch the snow fall. For me, the snow’s greatest purpose is sledding. After the first big snow fall of the season, my siblings, my friend, Agata, and her sister, some neighbors, and I all gather at the dead end of my street to sled. One house down from my own is a gated area for collecting water. Technically, it is illegal to enter the area, but the gate is broken, allowing people to enter. The area has contains many hills and slopes that are perfect for sledding during the winter. Even though people are not supposed to go into the area many people in the neighborhood do when it snows, and we aren’t hurting or disturbing anything so it hasn’t been a problem. Sledding is always so much fun there. Everyone who gathers competes to create the steepest and most twisty slopes. Agata’s dad always creates huge
I enjoy going to Red River Gorge with my hammock and just the minimal camping gear. This is my time to get back to earth, my time to find my own peace. The time I spend in the wilderness is the time I relieve my stress. I sit and look upon all of God’s great gifts and creations. At Red River Gorge I can sit in silence all day and ponder over all of its beauty, all of its feelings, and smells. At this time I concentrate on my breath and the feelings my body has. I try to not think of my life’s problems. Instead, I try only live in the moment and be thankful for the time I
