After performing a close reading of the assigned material, the key points of the readings were obtained. Chapter 7 focuses on taking the student to the next level of learning due to the student comprehending their work and achieving their goals. Signifying advancement on Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives demonstrates that the student is learning, and the teaching is suitable. As the student advances through the school year, his/her strengths and requirements will alter. In addition, situations that arise in a student’s daily life can influence imminent decisions. Teachers can turn to grade level standards, task analysis of activities, or family and student interests to aid in determining the next phase. I learned
There are numerous ways of meeting a student’s individual needs. These can be by differentiated tasks which will be linked to their individual education plans. (See IEPS include). Other ways can be giving some students who it
One of the two requirements from indicator 13 that is missing is the teacher did not inviting Lisette to her own IEP meeting. The teacher mentioned that the reason for not inviting Lisette was because she knew basketball practice. Regardless, indicatory 7 states that the students must be invited to their own IEP meeting where transition plans will be talked about. Their must be proof that an attempt was made to invite the student to attend the IEP transition meeting. If I was the facilitator of the meeting I would try to make an arrangement that worked with everyone schedule involved and also Lisettes. Having the student involved at the IEP transition planning is important, because there are discussions about her future and plans
In the American system the curriculum serves 5, 000 students and more than 20 countries and we need to review and look at the IEP process. The question that has spark concerns is to look at students direct IEP and how we can look to evaluate it? How students benefits from an IEP and what would be the first logical steps to change the process. We have a mixture of students who are not all English speaking students from all backgrounds and have some disabilities. I’m not here to complain about the teachers in your system, you have wonderful teachers who capture student’s interest and encourage students learning. But we are here to address the IEP’s process issue.
As a special education teacher I am involved in numerous meetings, in some of those meetings I have noticed that words, cultures and back grounds can impact the tone and outcome of the meeting. For some parents meeting with a room full of teachers can be intimidating. All too often the meeting consists of educated, white females. I am often the first African American teacher the student or parents have had interactions with. I can remember sitting in an IEP meeting for an hour when everyone had left the room besides me and the parent, I asked again if she had any questions or concerns. The parent asked, “What does all this mean for my child?” This parent sat in a meeting for an hour and had no idea what was being said nor did she feel comfortable
The IEP team met today to conduct an annual review for Daniella Rayon. Two separate notifications were sent out to the parent/ student. SB 1108 was addressed and signed at the start of the meeting. The parent and student were both present.
The webinar I watched was Introduction to Individualized Education Programs (IEP). This webinar was designed to provide parents with information regarding the IEP. It first began by listing the disabilities that were considered eligible for services in the state of Nevada. Then the webinar discussed the different laws that govern and shape special education today, such as the 14th Amendment, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). The webinar also described the evaluation process, and how the evaluation results are the cornerstone of the IEP. Next the webinar discussed when the IEP should be in place, and how transitioning records from one school to the next takes place. The parent, the special
Therefore, in Tier 2 students would be required to participate in enrichment classes to help them understand the materials in their reading and math curriculum. The teacher during the enrichment classes would provide small group using specific methods to meet their educational need. The teacher would monitor the student progress accordance to an Individual Education Program (IEP) measurement goal of performances when determining if they have master, been significant or not meet their goals, when suggesting if they improve to Tier 1, remain at Tier 2, or deteriorate to Tier
“The IEP, Individualized Education Program, is a document that is developed for each public school child who is eligible for special education” The IEP describes how the student learns, how the student best demonstrates that learning and what teachers and service providers will do to help the student learn more effectively. When developing an IEP the team will consider how their students specific disability affects their learning and come up with goals and objectives that will accommodate those needs and place the student in the least restrictive environment to achieve the goals and
Discussion: The team converged at Gregory Elementary school to participate in Donte's IEP meeting. The school counselor was not aware or forgot about the meeting which they scheduled . The meeting was rescheduled for Thursday 06/15/17 at 10 am. Tammy expressed frustration with school inability to communicate effectively. Tammy reported that Donte is behaving appropriately at home and in school. She informed the team that Donte's Risperdal was D/c'd because of insatiable appetite, and significant weight gain.
In the eighth grade I was diagnosed with a learning disability and was given a IEP. Even with the IEP I still struggled to maintain a passing grade through eighth grade and the first semester of ninth grade. During the ninth grade I was put into an academic support class and for the first half of the year I didn’t take advantage of it. I guess, at the time, I didn’t realize the importance of living up to my academic potential and always thought I was stupid and there was nothing I could do to change that. At the beginning of the second semester of my freshman year, my academic support teacher and I had a serious conversation about my future. I told her my plan to go to a four-year university and she didn’t take me seriously. She told me I was
The purpose of this research is to understand the perceptions and experiences of professionals on collaboration in the educational environment. Data collection will occur within the Virginia Beach City Public School (VBCPS) system. Specifically targeted will be three elementary schools that I work in being Ocean Lakes Elementary School, Princess Anne Elementary School and Red Mill Elementary School. The people that volunteer to take part will include VBCPS staff involved with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for special needs students in any one of the above identified schools, and has been part of an initial eligibility, new IEP, current IEP, or consulted on as part of the IEP process.
I totally agree with the parents either being involve and not involve because that can have a drastic change in the student’s success. However, all the points you made regarding an IEP and parents because that is very important to approach it having their opinion throughout the process.
Gonzalez gave me a brief explanation of IEP and 504 and showed me how to identified IEP and 504 students on ATLAS. She also showed me how to create student’s schedules. Today was my first day working with middle school students. I reviewed the 3 students’ information on ATLA before meeting them. I spent 5th and 6th period building rapport with 3 students.
All throughout my life I have been told that no matter what if I can dream it I can do it. I have had an IEP throughout my middle school and high school career. Something important that I have learned is that even though I have an IEP I should not let that define my educational career or define who I am as a person. Growing up I always knew that I was going to go to college and I think that motivated me a lot in school. I discovered my sophomore year that I was really had a passion for business. I decided to take several business classes. Looking back I am really happy that I choose to take those classes because they will put me ahead of my classmates in college and the classes have taught me the important’s of team work. My educational goals
Every fourth-year teacher trainees will have to conduct practicum and will work under the guideline of their associate teachers and supervisors. The purpose of doing the practicum are to put training into practice, to become accustomed to teaching in the tertiary school settings, and to develop and expand each trainee’s teaching expertise and confidence. In the following paragraph, I will express what I have learnt from doing practicum to reflect on my past teaching strengths and weaknesses from the teaching practicum.
