If I Stay There are many themes in If I Stay. There was one theme that touched my heart the most while reading this book. That one theme in the novel helps us thrive and survive. There is one major theme in this novel and it is the concept of choice. In the novel Mia is faced with the most important decision she will ever make whether to succumb to her injuries or fight to stay alive. There is one quote in the book that's states "sometimes you make choices in life and sometimes choices make you". This quote show us that in life we have to make hard choices. There is another quote in If I Stay that states " if you stay I'll do whatever you want I'll quit the band, go with you to New York. But if you need to
All three of these themes really helps you go in depth into the story. You realize how many times each of these pop up, which events they popped up in, and how important those events even were. We see you never know the worth of water until the well is dry with Sal as well as Phoebe, maybe even Mrs.Cadaver. When Sal’s mom leaves because she feels rotten in comparison to Sal’s father, we find this is a major event because we now have an insight as to why she left, she didn’t feel perfect, even though she was only human. Sal accepting her mother death was a terrible thing in her life, yet she had to and was also a key event in the story. These themes can all easily be integrated into our modern day society. Such as when you lose a relative, you have to accept their death even if you desperately don’t want to or when said family member dies you don’t realize how much they mean to you. Or with all the stereotypes and expectations we sometimes forget that we’re all only human. Tell people close to you you love them, you’ll never know when you’ll lose them. Make sure they know you appreciate them, but most of all, always know that nobody’s
The way the world is surrounded by technology, not being able to understand technology is difficult but not “death in life”. Today, almost anything on paper is easily accessed on a laptop or smartphone. However, if you're technologically illiterate, you still have access to everything on paper, you just may have to look harder for it. In the text, Carole says “Now I can read, I can read books, anything. I can write. In English and French.” When I read that quote, I think of Carole's troubles when learning to read on paper, now she has to learn all over again on a laptop. Personally, I find it very hard to read off of a smartboard or laptop and I can only think of the struggles coming Carole's way in the 21st century. Some challenges could be,
People read countless stories that have a variety of themes in them. When people read “Angela's Ashes” by Frank McCourt, and “The Street” by Ann Petry, they can probably sense that there is something similar among the two stories', and that's because they share a common theme. The theme is how people can persevere through problems that they encounter. The reader will discover this similar theme of persevering through problems with the way the authors utilize the character of characters feelings and personality, the way setting creates a backdrop that establishes the tone of the story, and events that cause conflict to the character.
Another theme heavily shown throughout the book is people are defined by the choices they make. Ben left his little sister Sissy to die even though he may have been able to save her, because he left her therefore he now vows to not run from danger/things that scare him. On top of that, Cassie promised Sammy that she would find him, and because she made that promise she will stop at nothing to be with him again.
Over time in the book Mattie is very strong if I was her I wouldn't know what to do. One time in the book Mattie gets diagnosed with fever and she survives! She was so close to death. "Oh, my, now that's looking better isn't it? You've beat the Grin Reaper, you have, lassie" Mrs flag says to Mattie when she wakes up from the fever. She was so close to death but she kept fighting. But she isn't done yet. Another time in the story where Mattie showed us the theme was when Mattie was all alone but she went out and tried to find someone to help her. This relates to the theme because Mattie could of just stayed at the coffeehouse but instead she knew she could find someone who would help. The last example I have is when Mattie has to decide what to do with the coffeehouse. She could decide to keep it or she could sell it. Everybody was telling her to sell it but she kept it. She could of said I don't want to decide and Eliza would've sold it but she decide to kept and to have Eliza as a partner. All these examples are explain how the theme is true. But these were three examples were three of many.
So then Julian would have to figure out what to do without his brothers, but he will have Angelita and some other friends. So one theme in this novel I think is “ You will have to deal with life.” When Julian and his brothers had to leave their parents and go to Camp Kendal.
The theme of the text is you may not know someone as well as you think. But, the theme of film is be careful when making life changing decisions. Although the themes were different, the plots were somewhat similar. The director made this change to fit how the story in his eyes was supposed to
“Being right is dangerous when the government is wrong”-Voltaire. Voltaire’s quote relates directly to the novel Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. The definition of a catch-22 is a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions, essentially, the government uses the law of catch-22 to ensure that they are always right. This quote is proven to be truthful throughout the novel as well as in more realistic and personal experiences. Through small and defiant acts Yossarian makes his opinion clear, whether the government likes it or not.
The theme of this book is to be strong through the toughest times. This theme is shown throughout the book when Kira is the only one alive in her family, Anabella passes away, and even when Matt was lost. Another theme could be trust your instincts. Kira has all these thoughts about the council, Annabella, beasts and many more but she keeps them to herself. Day after day more thoughts pile up. If Kira were to trust herself, her life would have a greater quality. As you read more of the story the theme becomes a larger part of
The theme of Life As We Knew it is survive, thrive, and love your family. The theme helped me understand this book because after finding out the theme I could understand who:is the main character, what:Is the main idea, where:is The setting and why things were happening and connect it to the theme. Not only that but, throughout the book I was constantly thinking about the theme.
The main themes of this book is not to far from the reality of every persons life. Not everyone has to live in a tyranny and fight for freedom to live but the fact is you still need to fight for something. Life is filled with struggles and that goes to different extents for different people. For the sisters in, In The Time of The Butterflies they had to go through an extreme part of their lives together and ended up not coming out the same. They were dependent on each other yet they were independent at the same time. The main theme I picked up from this book was the faith they had. The faith they had with each other, the faith they had to survive but most importantly the faith they had for themselves. They had faith as independent woman
One event that happened in this book that proves that the theme is true is when people who are sober came to rehab and talked to the kids and told them that things will get better and that it will get easier to go without the things they are addicted to. These people who use to be addicts who are now sober make a huge impact on the kids, showing them that that could be them someday. Another event that happens in the book that shows the key theme is when Eva and her Dad work out their problems during family day. After Eva's mom died, her and her dad stopped talking. Eva felt like she was invisible to her dad and felt like she didn’t even have a father. When Eva was doing drugs she was always hoping that her dad would pay attention to her and catch her, but he didn’t for about a year. When her dad did find out that she was an addict it didn't make anything better, it just made things worse. Now her dad was ashamed of his daughter. The daughter that he hadn’t payed attention to for the past year. When there was family day at rehab Eva and her dad got to share their real feelings with each other and work all of their problems out, resulting in forgiving each other and acknowledging that they both are still mourning of their mother/wife's death and will now help each other with the pain. The final event that happened in Clean that showed the theme that bad times get better is that by the end of the

What if the world that one knows comes to an end? What if one day one wakes up and everything one once knew suddenly changes? “What and if two words as nonthreatening as words come But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: ‘What if?'...”(Friedman, Letters To Juliette 2006). “What” and “if” are two words that haunt Mia as she has an out-of-body experience after a terrible car accident.
