Bosnian Culture Implications for Nursing

Being culturally aware is necessary in all professions; it is important to know what to expect and how to deal with individuals that don’t think like us and have different beliefs than us. One profession where being culturally aware is especially important is nursing. Nurses must know how to help their patients in a way that is both therapeutic and professional, and to do this they must understand what their patient is thinking and what is important to them. The Giger and Davidhizar Transcultural Nursing Assessment Framework gives a framework of six areas that should be focused on when working with different cultures. In this paper, we will specifically be looking at the children and families of the Bosnian culture. We will also be looking at some implications and interventions of nursing care from the assessment of the culture.
Giger and Davidhizar Framework
The Giger and Davidhizar Transcultural Nursing Assessment Framework consists of six factors that the nurse should pay attention to: communication, space, social organization, time, environmental control, and biological factors (Giger & Davidhizar, 2002).
