Informational Interview Essay

The subject of my interview was Juan Chavay. He was born and raised in small village close to the mountains. The actual name was not mentioned by Juan, but he emphasized on a small, remote village. He came to America in 2009 and has been here since. He is currently trying to achieve citizenship, but is encountering problems with actually achieving it. He has since been here on a work visa, which allows him to stay in the US for an extended period of time. He says he will continue the work he is doing in Mississippi.

Alyssa is showing concern about who will view her record. The case manager explains that she knows privacy is important to Alyssa. The supervisor, consultant, and other staff who are working directly with Alyssa cannot view her record without her signed consent. In explaining to the client there are exceptions in cases of emergency where information may be shared without her consent. For example, suicide, homicide or other life-threatening situations (Woodside & McClam, 2013).

For my informational interview I interviewed Hasty Elementary School Counselor Candace Thurman. Mrs. Thurman earned her B.A. in Psychology from Salem College and a MA Ed.S in Mental Health Counseling from Gardner Webb University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed School Counselor. Her maternal grandfather suffered from mental illness and was homeless. Seeing the impact his condition had on him as well as her family compelled her to choose a career in mental health. Mrs. Thurman worked in the middle school setting for 11 years. This year is her first year in an elementary school.

Cheerleading began for me at the age of twelve. In the past I had played soccer, basketball, softball, did ballet. Basically every activity my mom could possibly put me in. All of those activities were okay, but cheerleading became something that was special to me. I first began cheering in middle school for the Hazelwood West Junior Wildcats. I cheered on the team throughout middle school literally dedicating all of my free time to cheerleading. I lived, ate, and dreamed cheer. I went on to continue cheering throughout my high school career, cheering for all Hazelwood West athletics, including: soccer, football, basketball, and wrestling. The name of the interviewee is Matt Gunnell. He is a manager at the Jefferson City Apothecary. He has been instrumental to manufacturing medicine a playing a vital role in keeping the people of the Jefferson City community healthy and strong. I decided to choose Matt because he is a laid back and amazing individual who is very positive about life and encourage others to thrive and find their talent to make the world a better place. He also has a strong passion for his job and his role in ensuring the wellness of our citizens in this community. Also, I picked the Apothecary because of the vital role they to ensure our society have access to the medicine they need to stay healthy. It is one of the very few pharmaceutical businesses in town. It also offer pocket friendly prescriptions for some citizens that had to pay out of pocket.

The Human Services Informational Interview was conducted on the phone I interviewed Tara Dakolios. She started in the Human Services field with a Master degree in Education from Virginia College and started working at the Hilton head Preparatory School. After working there for years she missed doing education and had an opportunity with the University of South Carolina Beaufort as an advisor. Before being in the Human Services Field she wasn’t aware of it being declared a major and knew she always had a passion for helping people. The skills utilized in the Human Services Field are being adaptive, organized, multi-tasking and time management. Many young students want to pursue a career in accounting but are still wondering whether the possibility of matching this job or not. In general, the accounting industry is considered the industry that many students including myself choose and study. Graduate, students easily find a job and have a steady income. Not only easy to find a job and a stable income, I began to choose accounting because of the peculiarity quite "comfortable" of the industry: not too demanding, picky, I just have to like working with the numbers and skills required when working with numbers. Since accounting is an indispensable part of all companies and organizations, so this is one of the best craft unemployment negligent that I want to purse.

I feel the the informational interview went fairly well. I actually had the opportunity to work for Mrs. Kaur last summer so I knew her a little bit and was comfortable asking her questions. Also, having some prior knowledge of her work and background allowed me to ask address concerns that I may have not been able to without that pre-exisitng connection. I was able to learn a great deal about what actually goes into running a business and also learned about the great range of skills required to create your own company/business. Even though I learned a lot about the actual pratice of having your business, I feel I missed out on the educational aspects.
