September 11th will forever be known as one of the most heartbreaking and tragic days in American history. On that day in 2001, nineteen Islamic extremists associated with the radical terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four aircrafts and brought them down on important United States targets (“Attacks”). Of the four planes, two collided into the Twins Towers in New York City, one was flown into the Pentagon and the last plane crashed down in a field in Pennsylvania (“Attacks”). Originally mistaken as a freak accident, these carefully executed suicide attacks surely hit America as a surprise. The aftermath of the attacks were indescribable as the lives of so many loving and innocent Americans were unjustly claimed. These devastating events not only heavily impacted countless American lives, but went on to kick start a war and eventually bring lasting changes to the US government and society. After the attacks, many people were left wondering what could possibly drive a group of people to perform such an extreme act of violence. Upon further investigation, many motives were unmasked that explained why al-Qaeda executed the attacks. Osama Bin Laden, the leader of the terrorist group, was responsible for gathering thousands of supporters by brainwashing them into thinking America was the ultimate enemy (Longhurst). These ridiculous thoughts were stemmed from America’s involvement in the Persian War, in which the US supported the Israelis in the invasion of Lebanon (Longhurst).
September 11th 2001 there was a surprise attack on the United States by terrorists. The terrorists allegedly hijacked four airplanes. One was meant for the White House, one was meant for the Pentagon and the other two were meant for the twin tower which fell and many lives were lost. However some say it was not terrorists and that it was the United States government and that the government set a bomb and that they had several motives to do this.
September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.
September 11, 2001 was not just any ordinary day for the citizens of the United States and the city of New York, but a devastating attack that has put us all in shock and fear. As all of you know, the Tuesday that this country was ambushed and attacked destructively by terrorists, was one of the saddest days America has ever seen. Not only did it affect the people that were in the World Trade Center Towers and the loved ones who unfortunately passed away, but it affected our country as a whole. Scared, devastated, astonished, and surprised are just a few words that begin to describe September 11th. As separate states and people, I can confidently say that America has never been closer together as one than on that
III. Third Main Point: According to The final two planes which were American Airlines flight 77 and United Airlines flight 93 were all headed to the Washington D.C. area.
In 2001 on September 11, there were attacks that were made at the two world trade centers in New York City. These attacks led to things America has never seen before. The attacks of September 11, 2011 forever change security in the united states as well the American people’s thoughts of immigrants
On September 11th, 2001, the worst terror attack on US soil took place. 19 people associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda took 4 airplanes and carried out suicide to kill people in the United States. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, another plan hit the pentagon just outside Washington, D.C, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks caused massive destruction, forcing the U.S to combat terrorism and “defining the presidency of George W. Bush” (History). 9/11 is one of the most tragic events in the history of America, minute by minute people feared and this fear brought the country together in a way that it never did
It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory -- hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.
September 11, 2001 is one of the most infamous dates in American history. On this day, 19 radicalized Islamic militants hijacked four United States-based airplanes. Two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Thousands of first responders, occupants of the Towers and bystanders were killed or injured. The third plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and 125 people were killed. The passengers on the fourth plane revolted and forced the hijackers to crash into a field in Stony Creek, Pennsylvania. A total of 3,000 people were killed and over 6,000 were injured that day (“9/11 Attacks” 1). After the most detrimental terrorist attack in the history of the United States, action needed to
Most Americans remember the hardship from the events that took place on September 11, 2001. It was a very hard time for many families; loved ones were passing or saying their last words over the phone. It was hard on more than just those people though. Through it, all heroes stepped-up and terrorists were overcome. Damage was done, but memorials were built to remember the good, not the bad. September 11, 2001, is a day that terrorists tried to bring America to its knees; however, heroes arose to act as true patriots to save hundreds of lives including Flight 93 and the Pentagon.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda carried out a series of four attacks on the United States. The most well-known attack is when two commercial airline planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. Many innocent lives were lost and families were torn apart. While many Americans were determined to show their resilience towards the attacks, this is a day many Americans will never forget. Although the attacks happened sixteen years ago, Americans are still dealing with the impacts these attacks have had on life in America. The 9/11 attacks have had several long-lasting effects on everyday life in America, some of which include an increase in airport security, a change in national security, and an increase the fear of terrorism.
9/11 is a tragic day burned into american history forever. The horrifying scene in Manhattan, NY which killed 2,600 has been described as something out of a movie. The footage of the attack is overwhelming, and the effects it had on the world, are even more so. Being part of the generation that was born just before 9/11, most of our emotions attached to the event are not very sensitive, in fact to many it is seen almost as a joke at times, since even today vines and memes about the twin towers are everywhere. On the other hand, it also created hate and islamophobia in some, distrust towards our own government in others, and even a stronger sense of patriotism.
Years ago, a trip to the airport was an enjoyment. You didn’t have worry about terrorism that much. In 9/11, the hijackers deliberately took control over the plane, leaving passengers panicking for their lives. Airlines and airplanes were ordered to shut down all over the United States. “Immediately after the attacks, domestic air flights were ceased immediately for various days, for terror of additional attacks” (9/11 Effects in the USA, Soong). After 9/11, people were still petrified to even travel. Since then, the airline industry has modified it’s rules and regulations from then. They were more rigorous to what items are and aren’t allowed aboard; items had to come in traveling sizes to even permit in the plane. In a ripple effect, it was like the whole economy of the United States and the universe was frozen in place.
On September 11, 2001, 19 Islamic extremists planned and carried out terrorist attacks against the U.S., murdering about three-thousand innocent American citizens as a result. They specifically targeted the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Virginia, and were planning on attacking the White House as well. The extremists hijacked four planes; two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers and one plane crashed into the Pentagon. America had not seen such a world changing, eye opening terrorist led event since the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The terrorist attacks on 9/11 changed and shaped not only America, but the world as a whole. The effects of the attack are still evident in today’s world: socially, economically, and politically.
9/11 was one of the biggest terrorists attacks in the history of the United States that lead many people to ask what was next. This day lead to a war that is still going on to this day. A 16 year period. I was initially interested in this topic because I wanted to know more about the events that lead up to this day and the events that followed this day. While researching my topic, I found information about people who were in and around the buildings and people who were on the planes at the time. Through my essay I want to tell you and show you about all the events on September 11, 2001, the people behind it, and the message it left with the U.S.
According to a Scripps Howard poll, thirty-six percent of Americans believe that “Federal officials either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to prevent them because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East” and, based on the evidence, these beliefs are completely valid. The commonly accepted version of the tragic events which took place on September 11, 2001, is that a certain number of individuals from a terrorist group known as Al Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and flew them into the two world trade buildings, the pentagon, and the last one into a field. How is it though, that the United States of America, having the strongest, most advanced military in the world, happened to miss not one, but four planes flying off course, heading straight for some of the most important buildings in the country? The sad truth is that they didn't miss these planes at all, evidence
