Dinner is about communication whether it is with family or someone you have just met. You exchange stories and learn a lot about a person. So as I say this I have chosen three women to take to dinner not only because they are African American but because they are women so they had to not only deal with racism but also sexism. I am taking Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Angela Davis out to dinner at Paschal’s Restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia. I am taking them here because this is a place that used to host civil rights leaders and strategists for meals when they wanted to discuss what can be done. This place has a history with the African American community so it is not only a great conversation starter but also a place that all three the people I choose can have a connection to even if they were never part of the Civil Rights time period because they all fought for the same thing the people that used to meet here fought for.

My dad and I woke up early Easter Sunday to get everything ready and I knew it was going to be perfect. We started bar-b-queing and I just love the way it smells when I just barely put it on the bar-b-que pit. Never have I taken the time to think of the significance of the kitchen table in my life, but I have come to realize that my kitchen table has always been a place to unwind and share with my family members. From childhood to my adult hood, I have always come to the kitchen table in celebration, conference, in search of security, and enjoyment. The kitchen table of the past always brought my family together, and the table in my present brings focus to my school work and an occasional “catch up” conversation with my family, and in the future I hope to have a similar kitchen table setting as I did in my childhood, but with my own style.
In my family, when we eat at the dinner table, we talk about our day and build better bonds through our interactions. My mother cooks the meal, my sisters and I set up the table with utensils and place mats and my father is ready to eat. We all sit at the table, no technology, elbows off the table and we give grace. While we eat, we talk about our day or anything exciting has happened and we argue and laugh with each other.
Once I stepped inside the restaurant I automatically could hear the music playing at a moderate level and the laughter of the customers. Right off the back the restaurant's ambiance had a positive vibe. Mindful, it was a Saturday late afternoon. Mary Jane Burger and Brew is a local restaurant trying to stay true to its past. The granddaughter of the original owner now runs the place with the intention of serving good quality food where the ingredients are fresh, mouth watering, and surely not filled with antibiotics and all that other genetically modified elements found in processed foods. The vintage, rustic looking place, holds a small town atmosphere with a big taste.
As you head toward the entrance of the restaurant, you will see hosts standing in the lobby to greet people with bright smiles on their faces. The hosts ask how many are eating and once you tell them the number, and pay at the entrance, the host will asks where you would like to sit. The restaurant has red, smooth, comfortable leather booths, which the guest can sit in. Furthermore, people have a choice between sitting down in the back or near a window. The restaurant is enormous and has attractive colors which make the room spacious, a lot of interesting pictures, and other decorations on the walls. The entire restaurant is packed with people eating, sharing laughter, and enjoying their meal.
I have spent approximately 5,735 hours sitting at a dinner table with my family. Some of those hours dragged by and some of them ran out in the blink of an eye. Many hours took place around a huge mahogany table that seemed to extend for miles, while others occurred around a tiny folding table, barely big enough to contain the food and conversations being passed above it. However, one of the things that has always stayed that same, no matter the table or the topic of discussion, was the people that sat around it. Family dinner is such a profound time of the day; a time when everyone can come together as one. Throughout all of these years and all of these dinner tables, I have come to learn that relationships are sacred.
There is no doubt that the Phoenix is one of the biggest city in the United States. It has the rich resources and good populations. We can always have fun here during my free time. Being an international student who is studying here, the food here is always the most important thing I worried about.
