First of all I would like to thank professor Zajac for giving me the opportunity to present a persuasive speech about the topic I really cared about. Researching and speaking on this particular topic was a phenomenal experience to me. The classroom environment was as usual very conducive as usual for my persuasive speech without which the speech would have been less effective. The applause, smile and attention of my audience was once again very amazing. It helps me boost my confidence and keep me focused throughout my speech. In the following paragraphs first, I am going to write about the specific strength I demonstrated during my persuasive speech as well as well as the specific limitations I had in contrast to my informative and tribute speech. And second, I will reflect on the overall public speaking experience I had. The topic was very unusual. Who would argue not to help a continent that has been affected by so much poverty. So I used my prior knowledge of the subject matter and researched very well. And I read lots of online articles and books. As such the content of the speech outline was very good. Very detailed. My sources were also credible. All …show more content…
First I began my speech using a startling statistics as an attention getter and it was good. I share my credibility very well. The fact that I came from Africa and see the situation first hand gave me the credibility to speak on the topic and be passionate about it. I name my three reasons clearly. I liked the way I used analogies to make the speech persuasive and help my audience understand what I am talking about. Throughout the speech I was hand free and I didn't have the note in my hand all the time. I like the way I used connective between my main points as such compared to my tribute and informative speech the flow was good. Grooming professionally is the other area I was good at and I liked
4. Identify by name and title four expert sources that you plan to consult in your quest to find supportive information for the persuasive speech. - Institute for studies in global prosperity “Advancing toward the equality of women and men”- how gender equality has advanced over the years, yet there’s slow progression. - Susan Bulkeley Butler “Gender Equality = Men + Women Working Together” – how men and women are working together in corporate type careers and how do they correlate with each
Shirley Chisholm's speech is effective because of her use of logical flow of ideas, persuasive techniques, credible sources, and counter-arguments.
I will be critiquing my persuasive speech on puppy mills. The issue of puppy mills is one that is very important to me, and I was very dedicated to my speech. My speech informed the audience of the detrimental effects that puppy mills have on dogs, possible solutions to the problem, and how the audience could help. My persuasive goal was to try and convince the audience to help put a stop to the issue of puppy mills by adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue organization, or contacting their local legislature about the issue. My speech had assets and drawbacks which were apparent in my content and delivery. My strengths included my PowerPoint, the emotional appeal, and the commitment to my topic. My weaknesses were the length of my speech, maintaining eye contact, and my verbal delivery. However, these can be amended using several easy methods, such as timing myself while I practice, writing notes on my cards to remind me to keep eye contact, and practicing more in general. The most vital aspect of my speech was that it exhibited strong features.
I think I did a good job presenting my ethos through my speech story. I convince my audience with my credibility through my speech and the way how talk throughout the speech. For example, throughout my whole speech, I shown my hands and did not hide my hands. By keeping my hands in plain view, it shows my audience nonverbally that I can be trusted. The volume of my voice was at a normal speaking tone and was not too low. Most of my audience was able to hear me and listen to me very clearly. I also presented myself with confidence and gave off the impression that I was prepared. For example, I had a smile and had constant eye contact with my audience throughout my speech. There was certain things that I was doing that was ineffective while I was talking. Throughout my speech, I kept saying um and was pausing at times. I did not realize how much I was saying and doing these actions. These actions are something I need to work on more when I present my public communication to my audience
Introduction: Persuasive speeches are used to convince the audience about a speaker’ point on view of a particular subject. Persuasive speeches contain evidence and facts to keep the speech formal. Two persuasive speeches are Tom Collins’, “Eve of Battle,” and Martin Luther King’s anti-war speech, “Beyond Vietnam.” Each of these speeches are about war, one speech, Tim Collins’ urges troops into war, while the other by Martin Luther King is an anti-war speech.
Sarah began with a quote which made her speech become very relatable and personal, I liked this because it showed that she truly cared about the information she was about to share and really got my attention. She then used this information to introduce her topic and the points she planned to cover. Sarah used her transitions very effectively throughout her speech and never lost her place while speaking. Her conclusion adequately summed up the entirety of her speech and even included another quote about dealing with poverty stricken children in the classroom.
One topic that i can deliver as a credible speech, could be about over fishing. To build my credibility i will make sure my apperance is nice and make sure i have my audience attention an trust. I'll also give the audience a brief description about what i will be going over with them. I'm very credible in my topic because i know a lot of information about over fishing. I have many resources i had looked into such as books, the internet, social media and having discussions with peoples about over fishing. Your appearance can affect your topic selcetion in so many ways because you can dress nice but it may throw your audience off by your topic cause the way you appeared to present your topic.
Throughout the semester, I have enjoyed taking the "communication matters" course and learning more about writing speeches and writing a speech about my choice of persuasive topic. I have chosen to write about "The CSI effect", which is a theme in the crime and forensics fields. The topic interested me as I have an interest in criminal justice, psychology as well as the science of forensics. After I picked the topic, I made sure to do research and look at academic sources to make sure I had true and valid information about "The CSI effect".
Some things you could use as supporting material include examples that illustrate or describe the things you are talking about in addition to sharing personal stores or even providing statistics. Good places to locate this information include books or online sources. A good thing to note when using online sources is to make sure that they are credible sources. Using an online database at a library is a good place to find credible information. The more supporting details you add in to your speech the more credible you sound due to the amount of knowledge you have on the
3. Was the speech well-organized? Did it have a robust introduction, a solid body with specific main points, and a conclusion? How was the time allotment for each section (too long, too short?) Were the times dedicated to each section appropriate? (Introduction and Conclusion: between 45 seconds to1 minute; Body: main points each 1:15 – 1:30)
I went into detail how by listening to my speech, they could possibly help a family member or friend in the future. Finally, my preview of the main points did a great job of giving a roadmap into the rest of my speech. I went into each of my three main ideas and talked about what I would be examining within each of them. I made sure not to use any evidence too early or give too much away in the preview. I simply discussed what would be later covered in the coming minutes. An example, one of my points was government involvement. I previewed that I would be discussing the difference between how government at the local and national level affected access and how they differed.
The speaker made direct eye contact at all times unless his head was moving to place emphasis on what he was saying. Further, the speaker spoke loud enough to be heard and did not require me to turn my volume up super high while struggling to hear him. Additionally, the speaker utilized a good pace. He moved slow enough for me to comprehend everything he was telling me but fast enough so that I did not get bored and distracted. Finally, the speaker alternated his pitch throughout the speech which kept my attention. Overall, besides the previously addressed issues, the delivery of the speech was great! I would, however, suggest having more time of the speech spent face to face with the speaker for a more powerful speech.
After re-watching your speech, do you think you clearly explained a complex idea so that a non-expert audience could understand it? Was this a topic that will help your audience in some way? Why or why not? How could you have done this even more effectively?
Overall, I think I did great but need to work on slowing down as I speak. I practiced a couple of times and I looked up the information in books that I had. I felt embarrassed. I also felt stupid wearing the costume. I made the time in the shield speech but didn’t in the informative speech. practicing more with Mrs. Stauffer and Mr. Stauffer would have helped me a ton. I should have added more to my informative speech. Greek mythology is one of my favorite topics. Ever since I read Percy Jackson I started to read more about the mythology. I am very sad that the producers aren’t making a third movie. I want to do better on the HOW TO SPEECH. I should practice more. I want to practice
