This paper will discuss mine self-evaluation and do into detail about my first speech. My first speech takes place in front of my class and I have to tell a story of an experience that has happened to me. Telling a speech was a new experience for me and I embrace the challenge. A speech can have an impact on a person life and the audience can also relate a topic that is being presented. I will explore and go into the details of ethos, pathos and logos of my speech for my personal assessment. I think I did a good job presenting my ethos through my speech story. I convince my audience with my credibility through my speech and the way how talk throughout the speech. For example, throughout my whole speech, I shown my hands and did not hide my hands. By keeping my hands in plain view, it shows my audience nonverbally that I can be trusted. The volume of my voice was at a normal speaking tone and was not too low. Most of my audience was able to hear me and listen to me very clearly. I also presented myself with confidence and gave off the impression that I was prepared. For example, I had a smile and had constant eye contact with my audience throughout my speech. There was certain things that I was doing that was ineffective while I was talking. Throughout my speech, I kept saying um and was pausing at times. I did not realize how much I was saying and doing these actions. These actions are something I need to work on more when I present my public communication to my audience
My visual aid was the strongest part about my speech. I brought in the ingredients to make Tiramisu to show which brands I like to use for the recipe. I also prepared Tiramisu for the class as my hold interest technique. To relate the topic to the audience, I told them that they could make this recipe when they want to impress someone. My credibility was also convincing as I informed the class I had researched and compiled the best recipe. My introduction in general was concise and convinced the audience pay attention to the rest of my speech. I also thought my tone was conversational and not too formal.
The introduction & attention getter were complete but weren’t very engaging, which in my opinion was my speeches biggest flaw. My speech wasn’t one that as soon as you heard it you gave it your undivided because the importance of they topic in my opinion was very subjective. In my opinion the me employing a very loud, lively attention getter would’ve
During the speech, I was also a good speaker in many ways. I had a good voice projection, my hand moment was consistent, I was always facing the audience and held eye contact, and had facial expressions to emphasize the importance of a topic. Right off the bat when I was explaining my citation saying According to the U.S Census Bureau “there are alone 5.7% Asian’s in the United States,” I was pointing my hands to make sure everyone was paying attention to the numbers. Another thing I did well during the speech was, that I kept eye contact with everyone during the speech
One of the things I noticed in my speech was how many times I looked at the screen. I didn’t realize how many times I looked at my prop until I watched myself on video. It was distracting and took away from what I was saying to my audience. Additionally, I feel like I could have improved speaking about the different experiments performed. I feel like they were rushed and I should have stuck to talking about only one or two experiments instead. With my time being rushed, I feel like I couldn’t explain as much of the experiments as I wanted to or as in depth. Lastly, I should have worked on the conclusion for my speech. I wasn’t able to come up with a good conclusion, so it felt as if I left some of the speech left hanging. I mentioned ethical issues performed in the experiments without actually going over it in the speech. Next time, I know I will come up with a solid ending and just wrapping up ideas I already went over in class. I know that for my persuasive speech, I will work on my eye contact, slowing down, and coming up with a solid ending.
1. What is the audience's attitude toward me? Have I established my credibility as an ethical, responsible speaker? If not, you will have to work harder to earn the respect of your audience.
But my storytelling wasn’t strong enough because I wouldn’t finish telling the story of each slide, 15 min wasn’t enough time for me. Other than that, I believe my presentation was interesting because by the look at the audience faces; they were all paying attention and manage to laugh at some parts that I presented. My narrative was quite easy to understand because I wouldn’t finish what I had to say for each slide for talking at a normal pace. I should have talked a bit faster than that.
The capacity of speeches can be seen through its impact on human emotions and its capability to change the thought patterns of its audience. This is
An exceptional presenter speaks to their audience’s interests, and uses stories to make their speech more pleasant. Exceptional presenters own the room by making themselves the center of attention. To be the center of attention one must appear organized, and credible. You should have a passion for the subject that you’re speaking about, and you must engage your audience. Engaging your audience relies on the ability to understand your audience, and relate to them. Relating to your audience can be difficult if you are working with a diverse set of individuals, but if you appear natural they will be more accepting of you. Above all, practice is key.
3. How will you establish credibility with your audience (ethos)? How will you establish yourself as a reliable expert on the subject/topic?
My introduction to speech was effective and caught the audience’s attention. Making sure I had an attention getter, creditability and a thesis statement kept the audience engaged. The main points that I decided to over in my speech were that Letchworth State Park offers yearlong activities, tons of hiking trails to explore, and camping for everyone. I believe that I got my
I feel as though I addressed my goals effectively through my visuals and the video. I did everything I intended on doing for my presentation and was very proud of the outcome of it. One thing I would have done differently is I would have created a script beforehand to present more smoothly and I would have added some statistics to help support my points I made.
The direct purpose of this memo is to assess my listening abilities, and to describe my ideas of which to enhance them. After taking the listening assessment, I scored a 30-39%, indicating my need of improvement. Based off this score I identified my strengths to be listening carefully, asking questions, and empathizing with the speaker. My weaknesses are that I am easily distracted by both external and internal noise, and I have a difficult time keeping eye contact. My intentions are to explain my strategy to improve my skills given the information received from my assessment.
I don’t think that I did so well during this last presentation. I did a lot of research about the drone I was talking about and I knew what I was going to say about the product. When I got up there I realized I didn’t know it as well as I thought I was going to. I should have put more practice into my presentation. I felt like I practiced but it was all in my mind. I never really put my PowerPoint up and practiced it in front of someone. When I got up and started my presentation, I went through my attention getter and when I took my eyes off of my cards I never really knew what I was going to say next. It was a lack of practice. To prepare for my presentation. I did a lot of research about the drone the
Comparing to my pervious speeches, I thought I was more confident and effective. Since we were in the small room, I made sure that the tone and volume of my voices were balanced. Moreover, throughout the speeches I used various hand gestures to help me get connect with the audience. Preparation is one the most effective way to improve in any kinds of speech. Therefore, I could have done better by practice and preparing more.
For this speech I choose to have my topic be something I have a strong personal connection to which was Rave culture, its history and practices. Choosing this to be my topic of choice I was able to be motivated in researching it and I believe my genuine interest in the topic showed in my presentation. In this self-eval I will be discussing the structure and style along with what I am taking away from this speech.
