I write to you today to address my concern towards one of the current epidemics that lay upon this country. The problem of food stamps, and whether or not people on food stamps should be able to purchase junk food or not. It is my belief that the people should not be able to purchase junk food because junk food is unhealthy, the decision to purchase junk food not only affects the lives of the adults but also their possible children that they feed as well, and because these poor people are unable to afford proper health care for whatever disease or problem arises from the mass consumption of junk food. Now I do concede that mass implementations of these types of regulations would be hard to complete, especially in cases such as celebration, the government doesn’t want to completely deprive the youth of their own birthday cake. However I will have to make a case against the argument that limiting purchasing of junk foods and sodas would have adverse effects on businesses, and subsequently their pricing for the average consumer. Now while their are people’s jobs on the line, these products are not good for the average person, let alone those who feel they have no other option but the cheap alternative. It is simply unethical to lower prices on already cheap and unhealthy goods so the big corporations get more money and the little man turns out worse. It has been wide spread knowledge for many years that junk foods are unhealthy for you. In an LA Times article about the
This isn't (really) a rant about sugar because let's face it you've heard it all before. You are well aware that too much sugar makes you fat and has ominous links to type 2 diabetes. You know the facts, so I'm not going to patronise you with a concoction of sensationalist stats. There is one question I need to ask though, it's nothing special, but it is important 'are you addicted to sugar?' Take a minute, think about it. Addiction is when you cannot control a behaviour or action, can you control how much sugar you eat?

“Nutrition experts have researched the bad effects of junk food and come to the conclusion that junk food manufacturing
78 million adults and 13 million children in America dealing with health and emotional problems because they can’t stop eating(“Understanding the American Obesity Epidemic”). This is why they are not too thin. I must say, it is with great sorrow that we see young children, of ages eight or eighteen, or even adults, of ages twenty five or sixty, struggling to even take a few steps, some accompanied by wheelchairs, some desperately having to stay at home due to immobility and some who are left to no use. These are the ones who become either successful and are able to lose weight, or become useless individuals.
Do you know what it means to be healthy? What was the last thing YOU ate? Do you realize that these things are bad for you? I get it eating healthy can be a problem for some people even though you may just be that person that chooses not to eat healthy it can still be a struggle. Everyone and their family enjoy eating things such as (Cakes,Pies,Ice Cream,Cookies, etc.) so why would you choose to eat healthy foods over that? Most people believe that Sugar babies who are simply arm candy who are paid to be pretty and make conversation with them. Most also believe it’s easy and anyone can do it. However, this is far from the truth. In the Sugar World, there are many things to be careful of, from finding a Salt Daddy or being put into situations where one’s life in danger. The Sugar Bowl is not as sweet as it seems, and I am going to broadcast this to the world.
The organization of Debatewise stated that controlling the foods that students consume is important in combating obesity, as the dieting habits that most people form originate from when they were young. This is why it’s so crucial for schools to introduce healthier options in schools. If these unhealthy habits are developed, the students are “at higher risk for having other chronic health conditions and diseases that impact physical health..”, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These conditions can affect them emotionally and physically, including depression and obesity, which are important health issues both linked with the consumption of junk foods. The selling of junk food in schools is not a small problem either, as it concludes from a study by the Institute of Medicine in 2003 that elementary schools earn approximately $442 million annually from junk food sales. The importance of changing the school lunch programs to implement healthier options is high when there is so much money being spent by the students. Although obesity is a real problem due to the selling of junk food, it can lead to other problems that leading a healthier way of living could fix. For instance, the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension states junk foods, due to processing that removes vitamins, minerals, and fiber from the product, are empty calories that are ultimately worthless to the body. This alone contributes to unneeded weight gain and provides no additional sustenances that help the body grow. The Harvard Health Publications describes this to be a serious problem, and acknowledge not only this to be a complication, but mentions the unnecessarily high amounts of sodium levels in the foods, stating that “...the average
Thank you for your time today. I am writing to you in hope that you will understand the issue and be motivated to make changes due to it. In the united states at least 678,000 deaths each year die due to poor diet, lack of nutrition, obesity and obesity rates have tripled in children. Children all learn what they know, and that includes knowledge on a proper diet, in school, so why are schools not helping enough in this matter? Why are schools hiding healthy eating habits behind bought pizzas and chips and other junk foods in the cafeteria? We, in the united states, are required to educate children in health at schools, through P.E. and health classes, and should not undermine their work by giving out the opposite of what we suggest. Many may say that this takes away freedom or is not that big of a problem, but do children really want to be obese or unhealthy? Do students want to die young from linked diseases such as Diabetes type 2 and cardiovascular diseases? No. They would still have food choices, but they would be able to have better options to choose, ones where facts and statistics do not cause fear in parents, but happiness.
The debate over whether or not citizens on food stamps should be able to buy junk food using food stamps has been a popular, or unpopular, discussion topic that remains through the test of time. Food stamps for some people are simply a means to an end for some, that fact is undeniable. The food stamps program itself cost a substantial amount of money just to keep it running. Many people abuse the program to get what they want instead of what they need, this is why buying junk food with food stamps is a cause of obesity. The buying of junk food through the food stamp program is an unnecessary expense and should not be allowed.
Our life is something that is so precious. Every choice we make impacts our life wether it be physically or mentally. When we choose to make poor life choices, it will reflect on us as individuals. Poor choices in what we consumed or how active we are will lead to a life that can lead to an early death. Obesity is an epidemic health problem that has been one of the leading causes to death. The disease itself causes sever health conditions as well as mental health issues.no one wants to become obese, but in today’s society we have been given the perfect recipe that will land us in a fight for our life. Obesity is not something that simply happens, but a lifetime of poor choices. We must discover the source of obesity and attack the health issue from the primary leading factors. We start with the source in order to help improve the lives of people everywhere who are battling this disease, as well as those who are predisposed to a higher chance of developing it.
In preparation for the community presentation, we brainstorm our ideas to answer questions who and where is our target population? With our instructor approval, we are given the privilege to work with primary school children at Roosevelt Elementary School. What is the ongoing problem and what topic we need to present to bring awareness, health promotion, information and education to this particular population? Unanimously we agreed that children obesity has been a continuous and increasing problem in our schools in Scottsbluff and a growing concern for this nation and its future due to the increase of unhealthy foods consumed by our school children, such as foods that are low in fiber, high fat, high sugar and sodium which contributed to unnecessary weight gain and children obesity. As student nurses, we agreed that in line with the goal of Healthy People 2020 goal to promote and advocate healthy eating by increasing intake of fruit and vegetables in our school children diet by doing so, we decided to present “Healthy Food Choices.” It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that the public should consume adequate amounts of dietary fiber from a variety of plant foods. Dietary fiber is defined by the Institute of Medicine Food Nutrition Board as "non-digestible carbohydrates and lignin that are intrinsic and intact in plants." Populations that consume more dietary fiber have less chronic disease. Higher intakes of dietary fiber reduce the risk of developing several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers, and have been associated with lower body weights. Obesity is becoming a more common phrase when speaking about the American lifestyle, but many people don’t actually know
Vegetarians have a limited choice when it comes to food, but they are satisfied with it and enjoy it thoroughly; the moment you take a vegetarian friend to a restaurant and eat non-veg, you know how the reaction would be, LOL. But today, what we are going to discuss is capable of giving vegetarians a heart attack. How often have you visited a VEG RESTAURANT and ordered manchow soup or naan or a salad and thought that you are having vegetarian food?
What if you were forced to eat foods you don’t like to eat, because of its look or smell, but it is all you have. We will focus on what it takes to be a healthy in the eyes of the government, also what classifies as fatting/"bad for you" or in other words unhealthy. Why does the officials in our government put restrictions on school foods? Is it fair, what are they hoping to achieve by applying the restrictions on schools.
