They say the villain makes the movie and I would say that I agree with this statement. Two of my favorite movies, Inglorious Basterds and The Dark Knight, both have very well-written villains. Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz, is a colonel in the Nazi army and has been given the nickname "Jew Hunter" for his expertise in finding Jews where other Nazi officers would not. The Joker, played by Heath Ledger, is a psychopathic criminal that is introduced to us by offering the mafia to kill Batman for them.
The character of Hans Landa is introduced to us at the beginning of the film. He is shown to be interrogating a French dairy farmer about a Jewish family that used to live in the area. This scene is the perfect introduction for Hans

He then orders his men to execute the Jewish family, who are still underneath the floorboards. He manages to hear the daughter running away and has a chance to kill her but allows her to run away for his own twisted amusement. Hans Landa presents himself as well-mannered but underneath that is his utter ruthlessness and his lack of empathy. Despite being an officer in the Nazi army, towards the end of the film we are shown that he is no true loyalty as he makes a deal with the Allies, that allows them to assassinate Hitler and end the war and lets him escape to America.
The Joker is also introduced to us at the beginning of the film but in a bit of an unexpected way. We are shown that a group of robbers wearing clown masks execute an elaborative plan to rob a bank, that is later on in the film revealed to be storing money from the mafia. We see as they start to double cross each other on orders from the Joker until only one
Avila 3 masked robber remains. Before the lone remaining robber is able to leave on a stolen school bus, one of the bank workers stands up to him, mocking him for thinking his plan is so great so that he could get a bigger share. As the last remaining bank robber approaches him, the bank worker asks him "What do you believe in?!". The masked robber starts to respond with "I believe that whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you...stranger" taking off his mask, revealing that he is the Joker. This scene was
In the view of author Kevin Mahadeo, one of the most insane tricks the Joker had pulled was when he had captured members of the Bat-Family and had Alfred serve them up some platters topped with their faces which he had cut off. (Mahadeo) This is a representation of how truly insane and twisted the Joker was. Although the joker was quite insane, some people have learned to love his evil ways because of how clever and inventive he was while he came up with tricks. Despite the Jokers insane tricks, his trickery is shown throughout today’s culture because of how thought out and clever he can
The thrilling movie Batman the Dark Knight Begins was a great start to an exciting superhero trilogy. The movie is quite entertaining, but what really made the movie exceptional was the character of the Joker. The acting done by Heath Ledger (the joker) was wonderful acting. The way the writers and costume designers were able to portray the joker was great. The Joker was entertaining, but the character can actually be related to literature; for the joker is a prime example of a modern day trickster. Tricksters can be found in almost every culture, and they are seen in their folklore and myths. A trickster is a character that doesn't have a problem with, or even finds pleasure in participating in socially unacceptable acts, or activities that
Many stories feature a hero who behaves honorably and fights for good. These same stories often include a villain who behaves selfishly and stands at odds with the hero. In your opinion, who is the best villain from a movie or piece of literature? Think about what traits make him or her a good villain, and how he or she contrasts the hero.
He loved what the Joker did in the movie by tormenting and killing others. The Joker was always recognized as the smartest villain because he always had boobie traps and poison gas in his arsenal when it came to weaken and slow down Batman. However, James took what he seen during the movie and see if he imitates the Joker's mentality. By the end of the film, Holmes had his hair dyed red like how the Joker's hair was and wore a gas mask like what Joker wore when he tends to poison his victims with gas and he began to shoot at everyone in the movie theater. When the police arrested him and did investigation, Holmes claimed himself to be the Joker and that he had a mental
They saw him next to the movie theater with a lot of guns and armor. His hair was dyed red to show that he was the joker, at court He pleaded not guilty so he wasn't confessing in court. He blamed his mental illness and mental disorders.
The Joker, is a purposeless criminal. He will destroy anything, or anyone who gets in his way, just to accomplish his goal, to break Batman's personal rules, to never kill or harm anyone, but to save Gotham City from danger and
Unlike the majority of people in this world, the Joker does not think of himself as a good person. He knows he is crazy and does not think too highly of himself. This is called “illusory superiority”, the cognitive bias in almost all people that makes people think of themselves as better people than they actually are. The Joker does not have this. He believes that
At the beginning of the movie we are introduced to the Joker who is set on creating mayhem and villainy for the sheer sport of it. All he wants is to bring the world down to his level and make them see through his eyes and thus understand that all men are inherently evil.He is antisocial in all ways, but seems to have more realism than anyone else. He robs a bank that is owned by Gotham’s gangs and by doing so makes himself a target for them. Batman is left puzzled by this a strained villain who seems to pose no real threat, except that he needs to be caught. Through the movie Joker is seemly one-step ahead of Batman until the District Attorney, Harvey Dent, realizes that The Joker is a mad genius and needs to be sought after.
The fourth question asks why there are differences between The Joker and the rest of us. “Freud would argue that different people develop in differing environments and had different childhood experiences” (Psychoanalysis of The Joker). The reason The Joker is different from all of us is his complicated past. Due to unknown childhood experiences, he never developed a superego.
The Joker embodies the shadow in this movie as he has been affected by an extensive amount of suffering from his past, causing him to play out the manic chaos of the ID, and to see himself as the hero of his own fantasy. The Joker personifies the force of the shadow by constantly expressing dark emotions and intentions caused by very deep trauma in his past. His father was abusive to him and his mother, literally scarring him for life. This remains significant to him as he persistently brings up the question “Wanna know how I got these scars?” In addition to this, we constantly see the Joker licking his lips throughout the movie. Of Freud’s psychosexual stages, he is fixated at the oral stage as a result of neglect and being insufficiently nursed as a child. His anxiety persists as a neurosis into his adult life;
“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Harvey Dent. Harvey Dent, Gotham's new district attorney, has been elected and has a new agenda that torments to take down Gotham's crime. The appearance of the mischief keen known as Batman, has caused problems for Dent and his agenda. A new scandalous mastermind known only as "The Joker" has arrived and intends to take Gotham out from Harvey Dent's iron fist. The Joker junctures an exquisitely planned bank robbery and robs the Gotham mob blind. He uses this money to stage a series of abominable and strategic attacks against the city and its people. Each one carefully planned and aimed at Dent and Batman while causing the rest of the city to enter panic mode. The Joker has no rules, but Batman has

The opening scene starts off with five small-time criminals working under the devious mastermind that is the Joker. The dark,
There is no character who is really like no other in the world of comic book villains, and that character is the Joker. Which would be hard for a person to actually find a character who is deep and this disturbed in the world of comic book villains? The mind that originated him, Jerry Robinson, must have been a very twisted person, undoubtedly. The Joker represents a theory about existence that part of me believes that all people wish we could embrace in our own way. He is an outrageous character, the stuff he does to other people is the lowest of the lows. The Joker is also a fascinating character, with an interesting world view, which is why he is my favorite villain. He has so many characteristics that make him even more interesting, like his history, his character, and how is he portrayed.
It's not quite fair to say that the late Heath Ledger steals "The Dark Knight" from Christian Bale and the forces of (problematic) good, but, as the Joker, he is the movie's animating principle and anarchic spark - an unstoppable force colliding with the immovable objects of Batman and director
