Room 335 definitely made me see how much value there is in intergenerational relationship. The film showed how much of an impact such relationships have on both parties. Through the film, we see Andrew seemingly grow a better understanding of not only how much the residents gained from his and his crew's interest and companionship but how much he gained from it as well. One example of this was Bill, who Andrew grew close to throughout the documentary. We learn from a nurse that Bill was always quiet before Andrew and the crew started living at Harbor Place. In middle adulthood there are many changes that occur physically, psychologically, and socially as explained in the above passages. Yet, some say that this is the best time of their life, they experience enhanced self-confidence, great sex lives, career success, and enhanced brain functions. Middle age adults are better equipped to make better life choices and decisions and not worry so much about the negative parts of life. Their problem solving skills are greater which allows them to reason more creatively. They are able to enjoy sex freely without the worries of getting pregnant and they feel more confident with their partners. In general they are happier about life and look forward to enjoying the rest of their lives.
Every generation is influenced by its period 's economic, political and social events. From the Great Depression to the civil rights and women 's movements to the advent of television and advanced computer technologies. Thus generational background/situation may also affect the way they work. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in values and expectations of each generation in the workplace. The current work place consists of four different generations; The Baby Boomers (1946-1964) who are slowly retiring and existing the workforce, The Generation X (1965-1976), The Generation Y or millennia (1977-1997), and the Generation Z who are about to or are just entering the work force. Although these different generations tend to want similar things in a workplace their environment/background has shaped their character, values, and expectations (Hahn 2011).
The film, Precious, is a powerfully charged story that delves into the family dynamics of a 16-year-old girl and her struggles to survive an onslaught of treacherous experiences. Throughout the film, the viewer is enveloped in a dramatic web of extreme situations, experienced by the main character, and those to whom she is close. The themes of domestic violence, rape, incest, drug addiction, gambling, poverty, social justice, social services, housing and education are laced together throughout the story. Particularly poignant attention is paid to various systems that help shape the experiences of the characters. The social services industry, and its associated workers, educators and administrators, set the foundation for the social themes that are highlighted by this film.

The ‘new family’ of the 1970s grew up as children with no father figure, did not remember wartime hardships and saw family life depicted through American movies. Civil law changed the system to nuclear family through the exposure of Western influence that was seen as the ideal for the Japanese family. The concept of nuclear family has influenced the increase in “singles, martial couples and single-parent units” which by Nonoyama (2000) sees this as a disorganization of the framework of nuclear structure. In my move to Chattanooga, TN my brother and I were discussing the dynamics of the family systems within the city and realized that there is a huge age gap missing within the work force and real estate sectors amongst the African American population. The ages of 25 to 35 were not a vibrant part of the population which has a direct effect on community growth and development. For this observation assignment I chose to observe Doris. Doris is a seventy-six year old volunteer at the day care I work at. I have been observing Doris over a course of ten weeks and have spoken with her on many occasions. Doris lost her husband fourteen years ago after a short illness. The anniversary of his passing is coming up within a few days of Thanksgiving. When we began speaking of him, I observed the change in Doris’ demeanor. She is still grieving over this loss.
In my family, the three generations are all at a different stage in life. Generation one at the moment in stage eight of the Family Life course. Upon starting this Gerontology course, I was overwhelmed with the course expectations, having to complete an Older Adult Review project, weekly discussion board posts and comments with precise APA format (which I was horrible at) and lots of supplemental reading to fulfill the learning outcomes of this course. Nevertheless, I overcame all those obstacles and have obtained newfound knowledge of what it is like to age, firsthand, coming from one of my favorite patients which has cleared many of the stereotypes I had on the geriatric population. Thanks to this course and interviews with Mary, I have a better understanding of the geriatric population which will benefit my future career as a Registered Nurse.
