Most of the world has their own religious beliefs, some believe there is one God, and others believe there are many. There are also people who believe that their religion is the right religion, that believe they are doing what the religious text “says” to be. For that reason, there are believers who will do anything to show people the right way, even if it means ending someone’s life. Those believers are known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also to be known as ISIS, a Salafi jihadist militant group that follows an Islamic, fundamentalist, Wahhabi doctrine of Sunni Islam. were profoundly religious acts.” (Flew) With the total ignorance of the Islamic teachings, the general public believes that it was all pretense, even when Osama bin Laden exhorted that they were exceedingly religious acts. (Flew) Immigrants from Muslim Countries, to whatever the extent of their knowledge of the Islamic teachings, must feel a heavy duty to do all they can to spread the conviction. (Flew) Within the descendants of those immigrants, Osama bin Laden’s opposing terrorist was against the United States and their allies is extensive, conflicting with the authentic teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. (Flew) In 1920, Bertrand Russel visited the USSR and found some similarities between Islam and Bolshevism. Russel had said that, “Bolshevism combines the characteristics of the French Revolution, with the characteristics of the Rise of Islam. (Flew) Marx has taught that communism is fatally predestined to come about; this produces a state of mind not unlike that of the early successor of Muhammad.” Says Russel. (Flew) As Russel concludes “Muhammadism and Bolshevism are practical, social, unspiritual, and concerned to win the empire of this world.” (Flew) Bolshevism will do for the Russians, what Muhammadism did for the Arabs. (Michales) The Russian Defense Ministry said that a training camp and ammo depot were destroyed by bombings near the Islamic State’s defector capital in Syria, Raqqa. The countries of France, Turkey, the United States, Germany, Britain, Qutar, and Saudi Arabia; all say that Russia’s actions will “only fuel more radicalization and extremism.” (Michales) Russia’s airstrikes complicate U.S. efforts to build a moderate opposition in Syria, designed to counter the Islamic State there. (Michales) Pentagon efforts to train and deploy forces stalled before Russia’s airstrikes, but any future recruitment could be difficult if the Pentagon doesn’t provide U.S- backed rebels with guarantee of protection if they come under Russian attack. (Michales) Iraq is accepting help from both the United States and Russia is an ally to the Shiite- dominated government, Iraqi leaders will follow them, while the U.S has been trying to force the Iraqis to compromise with the Sunnis. Nonetheless, when the time comes, Iraq will pick Russia for help to fight
I am writing to you today as a student at the College of William and Mary. I am in an International Security class and recently we studied the events occurring in Syria. As you are well aware, the situation in Syria has been dramatically deteriorating in recent months with the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the recent entrance of Russia into the conflict. Syria, meanwhile, has been in the midst of a ravaging civil war since the early spring of 2011. Currently, the government of Syria is led by President Bashar al-Assad, a member of the Syrian Ba’ath Party, a branch of the same Ba’ath Party that Saddam Hussein was also a member of. This similarity may lead some to think that Syria will end up like Iraq, with a
It is interesting to degree that Russia has helped ISIS achieve its terrorist objectives, since the number one rule in terrorism is to instill fear in your enemy. The definition of terrorism is “the calculated use of violence or threat of violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious or ideological.” This fear is so ingrained in the Neo-Confederate and “Alt-Right” that battling ISIS became a major factor of Republican National Security Policy: ISIS, an organization which lacks any strategic weapons or arsenal. Obviously, Russia welcomes this US fixation on ISIS, since the conservative base of a major U.S. Party is diverted from scrutiny of Russia’s hostile policies against her neighbors. However, Russia in effect is aiding and abetting the terrorists group ISIS, and could be considered by the US an enemy combatant. Russia’s carefully crafted ISIS message has encroached on the Neo-Confederate psyche, that they now view the Russians with greater respect than the US government. Just like their Confederate predecessors in the US Civil War, these Neo-Confederates are willing to seek foreign
Two of President Obama’s goals in Syria included seeing Assad relinquish and transition power to a new leader and ending al Qaeda and ISIS’s expansion in the region. Both Europe and the U.S. have been victims of acts of terror sponsored by ISIS which is possible, in part, due to Syria’s chaotic climate. While Russian President Vladimir Putin also wants to see an end to the spread of terrorist groups in the Middle East, he does not share U.S. sentiment in regards to dismantling
ISIL’s goal is to overthrow the current governments and create their own universal caliphate. To top it off, ISIL (for example) distorts the Quran and the teachings to support their moral justification on the violence they create in their path. The United States and its allies attacked ISIL at their strong
In order to formulate a policy against ISIS, there must to be an understanding regarding how ISIS came to be and what its motives are. ISIS is a terrorist organization that began as al-Qaeda in Iraq. In time, ISIS split from al-Qaeda for ideological differences, mainly because ISIS wanted to control large areas of land in order to establish a caliphate. In the past year ISIS became increasingly violent, and started being stricter with the regions they hold under their control, such as beheading people, and burning them alive. Now ISIS controls an area roughly the size of the United Kingdom in Iraq and Syria. ISIS’ main objective is to establish a caliphate where they can follow Islam to its strictest interpretation.
The parties involved in many civil wars are often not just limited to the country in which the war is actually taking place. Often, other countries will give aid to one side of the conflict or even involve their own military forces. Recent examples of such occurrences include Russian, American, and Turkish involvement in the present Syrian Civil War and the NATO bombing campaign during the Kosovo War. These countries expend massive amounts of resources and lose great numbers of troops in these conflicts often to uncertain ends. This begs the question: Why do foreign powers involve themselves in the civil wars of other countries? It is possible that such interventions occur because the intervening party believes that they could make strategic gains by doing so. Another theory is that countries intervene when they feel that there is a moral obligation to get involved in the conflict (Kim 2012, 19). However, even when circumstances seem to be in favor of a foreign power intervening, they do not involve themselves. This paper will test these hypotheses by examining the intervention by the United States and Russia primarily in the current Syrian Civil War and attempt to discern their motives for
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has recently attacked. How and Why? These are all questions that the public still wants to know. ISIS is a jihadist terror group that was established after the fall of Al Qaeda and the death of their leader Osama Bin Ladin. The reason why ISIS' foundation is still spreading is because their followers want "revenge" on those who have tarnished the Islamic religion. ISIS' end goal is to separate the Western and Eastern parts of the world, and even though we pride ourselves on the belief that we are all equal many people want this to happen. And ISIS takes those people to help them achieve this goal.
ISIS is a terrorist organization and perhaps the most successful one. They have seized huge chunks of Syria and Iraq. They are an anti-western militant group devoted to establishing an independent Muslim Islamic state but no country recognizes them as a state. People have been shot and killed in the name of ISIS because they have a different political or religious viewpoint. ISIS believes religion gives them the right to attack others with differing political views. ISIS is an example of how certain beliefs can start a war. Wars are started for many reasons but they often start because of a group’s strongly held belief surrounding religion, race or political views. Wars or conflicts hurt and kill millions of people. But certain groups feel
It aims to replace existing, man-made borders, to overcome what it sees as the Shiite "crescent" that has emerged across the Middle East, to take its war Islam's war to Europe and America, and ultimately to lead Muslims toward an apocalyptic battle against the "disbelievers."Its propaganda relies on a very distinct interpretation of the Quran and other religious texts to promote these goals. In my opinion Isis is a bunch of cowards. They use facebook to hack accounts and recruit people. Isis has started a war they know they cannot win with power, so instead of power they use their influence and America's open borders to attack from the inside. In an interview with Sue Fisher I asked her opinion on Isis she responded with “They are murderers who do it in the name of religion.” I agreed, and asked her if she thinks they will succeed with their plans. Sue responded with “No they will not.” Additionally I asked if they’re worse than Al-Qaeda and she responded” Al-Qaeda and Isis are equally horrifying in what they have done.” The last question I asked is if Donald Trump was right with the bombing of Syria. Sue responded with “Donald Trump's decision was the right
ISIS is identified as a Salafi extremist group, which refers to a very conservative outlook on the Islamic religion. With these abhorrent views of non-Muslims, many of the members have resorted to domestic violence, including suicide bombings and other forms of provoking fear in the innocent. Countries such as Iraq and Syria have made multiple attempts to combat ISIS, but they are currently deemed too powerful to be seized from power. A number of factors contribute to the horrific actions that are executed by the Islamic State, such as the disarmament of Saddam Hussein’s military back in the early 2000’s. Once the former Iraqi soldiers realized that they could not fight for their country, they transitioned into ISIS fighters and began to advocate for a much different cause- one that would affect millions of lives all over the
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, better known as ISIS, is a terrorist group with the intentions to generate fear among people by committing acts of terror. Their short term goals are to inflict fear into the eyes of the world, along with attracting Muslims from various countries for its self-proclaimed cause (Wood). Their long term intentions are to overthrow the all other governments and establish an Islamic culture based only on Sharia law (Wood).
ISIS main goal is to establish a Caliphate that is based on the Sharia law. The Sharia Law is a combination of following what the Quran, Hadiths, and fatwas
Critics have also argued that ISIS is a dying down, because the Iraqi military is now fighting them and reducing their strength as well. While in Syria, the Russians have sent their air force to unrelentingly bomb them, while government troops from the Syrian government move into eliminate the group. As the Russian air force had been deployed there has been progress, however the Russians have been accused of targeting civilians and civilian property, such as schools and hospitals. This is evident is Aleppo as hospital staff have claimed that Russian jets that have flown over hospitals have dropped their bomb loads on them, causing massive destruction and killing staff and patients alike “Between Thursday and Saturday, the regime or its Russian ally bombed four hospitals, rebel-held Aleppo’s only blood bank and a forensic pathology lab, nearly all in the Al Sha’ar neighborhood, one of the biggest and poorest parts of east Aleppo.”(Gutman 4). Many officials have said that civilian casualties have increased when the Russians had intervened in Syria, thus causing the population to flee and lose faith in the Russians as they continue bombing ISIS and other targets, such as the many Syrian rebel factions in the Civil War “Apart from the nine dead, eight missing and dozens injured, this strike (like several others) has left the local population without access to vital medical services. According to MSF, the local population of 40,000 people can now be added to the long list of civilians “without access to medical services in [the] active zone of conflict” that is Syria.”(Sacklen 5). Many Russian officials have also denied claims that their air force had bombed civilian centers and have claimed that they have only been targeting ISIS and other targets. Also in Iraq the military has made slow
With Russia’s recent move into Syria, the US is left scratching its head as to what to do about Putin, Assad, US-backed Syrian rebels, and Iran’s involvement in the melee. Until recently, the United States efforts in Syria have been focused on training “moderate” rebels in a bid to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and neutralize the ever-growing threat that ISIS poses. Russia’s recent air strikes in the region, coupled with the inevitable Iranian ground invasion, severely hamper US plans in the Syria. The effect this will have on US influence in the region is an issue, as well as what the eventual post-conflict results will have on US interests and allies in the region, particularly Israel.
In the past few years, ISIS has grown to be an extremely strong and dangerous terrorist group. ISIS developed from divisions in Al Qaeda, another terrorist group. Both of these terrorist groups believe that the successor of the Prophet Muhammad should be elected, not through bloodline. Although they come from the same place, they are not similar at all. ISIS slowly moves with small attacks, like beheadings and videos to show their power. They conquer territories to expand their “Caliphate,” as they would call it. Al Qaeda was very fast moving with deliberately powerful attacks such as the plane hijackings that led to the falling of the Twin Towers. According to the website, Mirror, in a Jihadi magazine, ISIS says they hate the west because there are some atheists and disbelievers of Allah. They find that to be extremely offensive for the reason that they think the highest of Allah, or their God. They also hate that we invaded their lands.
