It Is Not Worth The Expense And Risk To Make A Manned Flight To Mars

First of all, the cost of getting to Mars is too high. Most people do not have the money. It would be unfair if only wealthy families get to go to Mars. People back on Earth who can only afford for one person to go on the trip will miss their family. The trip back home

Many feel that the United States should lead a crewed mission to discover the planet of Mars. Mars One, a settlement, has started a goal to initiate human life on the Red Planet. However, are humans really capable for Mars? There are two sides of the argument. Many are agreeing on starting the mission while others are contracted by the idea. I, for one, believe the mission should not take place. Difficulties NASA has to overcome, the safety of the trip, and the costs of the whole mission are many of the opposing factors of starting a journey to the Red Planet.

The first reason that adults won’t go to Mars is that their are some high risks of death. For example, The chances are that they’ll crash when people go to Mars because their atmosphere is way more dense than Earth’s atmosphere. It’ll also be LOT more harder to land a ship on Mars than on Earth because the Mar’s atmosphere can’t slow down the ship, according to Popular Science website. Another risk is that people need to face is the coldness of Mars temperature, people will die from freezing to death on Mars since Mars is much farther away from the sun and the storms that it has. An wesite Popular Science claims that the weather on Mars isn’t suitable for humans to live in. The Temperature on Mars is under -81o F! That means every time a grown up go outside they need to wear a spacesuit and battle the coldness of Mar’s cold weather.

Since the beginning of time, people have been curious, and are always trying to explore. But now it is 2017, and we have to understand what we should do and what we shouldn’t do. People today have a good idea about the hazards of space travel and know the consequences space travel can have for people. And after considering Andy Weir's statement regarding travel to Mars, I am of the opinion that we as a nation should not fund a manned mission to Mars in the near future because it will be very expensive, we have a larger need to explore places here on Earth, and it purposes a large danger to the people traveling in space.

Imagine going on a six billion dollar rocket ship and never seeing your family or friends again. The astronauts will risk their lives because it is a dangerous expedition and could easily fail if the people die from lack of oxygen. Colonizing Mars is a terrible idea there is no natural source of water, if Mars One sends them they cannot come back once they arrive there, and someone could get sick and die before they get there.

Some citizens believe that NASA is a waste of time. Some would venture to say the program has “no practical use to mankind” and the $17 billion of taxpayers money is put towards failed projects and a hope to get to another planet (Government funding). Every time the program goes into space there is no guarantee they will find something new. Spending money on ineffective trips is pointless for the taxpayers; every time the astronauts go into space they go to the same places making no progress. Since the United States is tied with NASA, the program prevents branches of the government placing space work with another agency, which prevents progress with other space agencies (Government funding). Before going into space, NASA should try to solve problems on Earth first. Such as making a car that doesn’t use gas or pollute the air, finding ways to fix the ozone layer, making less pollution by using renewable resources. Instead of going to Mars, solving issues such as global warming is very important to the Earth. Global warming and climate changes are very important to keeping the Earth a safe, healthy place to live. With the debt America is already in, spending more money to send people on the same missions into space over and over again is just spending more money than the States cannot

If we were to go to Mars the progression of technology that would be made and the astronomical research available would greatly benefit humanity, the future, and our planet (The Mars Society). Humanity would be greatly benefited if we were to go to Mars because if there is evidence of life separate from ours this would be a the greatest scientific discovery for a very long time (National Center for Biotechnology Information). The future would also be benefited for if we could colonize another planet and this would create hope to spread humanity across the entire galaxy. If humans were to step foot on and study Mars, our planet, Earth, would be benefited. It has been scientifically proved that Earth is slowly being heated through global warming; however, research on Mars might provide highly helpful information for Mars is the planet in our solar system that is the most similar to Earth (American Museum of Natural History).

Even though the opposition may disagree that the United States should be determined to explore Mars, humans should not go to Mars because it will endanger people’s lives and cost a myriad amount of money.
