College athletes should be paid because of the huge amount of money being made off of the use of their athletic ability. The college basketball and football games that everyone watches on TV is no longer just a game, it is a business. The colleges and arenas hosting such events are not doing it solely for the love of sport, they are doing it for the money that will flow generously into their banking accounts. The coaches also, they are not volunteers, they are not there just for their love of the game, coaching is their job. The athletic directors, coaching staff, and event staff are all doing their job to put food on the table. Basically, Savage was saying that the colleges had already stopped worrying about education and had turned into a business worried about money. The two of them also shared that “In 1948, the NCAA adopted a,”Sanity Code” this code put restrictions on the colleges in hope to have better control of the recruitment process(par. 5). They continued to inform us that in the fifties with some schools threatening to leave the NCAA the Sanity Code was adjusted to allow athletic scholarships to cover tuition, fees, and a living stipend(par. 5). The NCAA did not just appear and have all the rules and regulation it has today, there have been many rules added and adjusted over the years. The possibilities are high that there is going to be another adjustment made in relation to paying players in the near future. There are those who are against paying college athletes, they believe that the full scholarship the student-athletes are receiving is all that is needed. The athletes are at school for an education not for sports. According to Johnson and Acquaviva a full scholarship for all four years costs between $30,000 and $200,000 depending on the school(par. 12). Zach Dirlum simplifies it by saying graduating from college with a degree guarantees the athlete making more money out of school(par. 11).As Kerry Brown says in “10 Benefits of Being a Collegiate Student Athlete” a 2013 study by The College Board shows that if the student athletes graduate from college they have a 65% higher
