1) My client, Jacob, is a 22 year old senior in college, and desires to deadlift with proper form. His overall goal is to gain muscle mass on a semi-ectomorph body frame. His knowledge and experience with the deadlift movement is nominal. He wants to increase the weight he lifts, but under an initial consultation, I noticed that his initial movement, breaking the weight from the floor, was inadequate to improve his performance goal. Jacob admitted his novice status in the use of free weights for mass building, and submitted to begin learning as if he were unaware of any knowledge of the movement. Gross motor skills showing need for improvement were scapular retraction and load preparation in the lower body in order to break the bar from …show more content…
2) Cecchini, González, Méndez-Giménez, and Fernández-Río (2011) defined mastery goals as focusing on development and demonstration of competence via personal improvement and learning. In contrast, performance goals focused on the demonstration or proving of competence levels relative to other lifters. Darnon (2007) further explained that under mastery goals, attention is allocated to the resolution of the task. Researchers have shown that mastery goals favor a deep processing of the task, while performance goals share attention between the task and concern about performance outcomes. Holmberg, Crantz, and Michaelson (2012) conducted a study to determine if deadlift training could treat low back pain. In the beginning of the intervention, the subjects had to learn a correct lifting technique, with low intensity and adequate rest periods, all under the supervision of a physiotherapist. Progression was ensured by increasing the intensity or adding repetitions or a combination of both. Results found that the subjects with discogenic LBP showed positive response to deadlift training regarding pain intensity and functional status. The relevance to the implementation for Jacob’s plan will be in learning the correct lifting technique, albeit the progression should be steeper. For the break, mastery goals will be used in stages and some of the goals will be based on kinematics. Jacob’s first goal will be to determine optimal grip
The biomechanical approach assumes that the client has the capacity for voluntary control of the body (muscle control) and mind (motivation). It is anatomy and physiology that determines normal function, and humans are biomechanical beings whose range of motion (ROM), strength, and endurance have physiological and kinetic potential as well as role relevant behaviors. The biomechanical frame of reference is a key reference to use in conjunction with various others in enabling OT to access and identify a client’s occupational performance within the various activities of daily living. It is important when taking a holistic approach to practice, as
During my Level II Fieldwork at Hahnemann University Hospital I provided quality therapy for adults with various acute injuries, illnesses, or recovering from surgery by utilizing a strength-based approach to support the needs of the individual. I successfully managed a caseload of 8-11 patients each day, in which I was responsible for conducting evaluations and treatment sessions in order to provide safe discharge recommendations and help patients
One the most distinguished artists of the twentieth century, Jacob Lawrence was born in Atlantic City and spnt part of his child hood in Pennsylvania. After his parents split up in 1924, he went with his mother and siblings to New York, settling in Harlem. "He trained as a painter at the Harlem Art Workshop, inside the New York Public Library's 113 5th Street branch. Younger than the artists and writers who took part in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s, Lawrence was also at an angle to them: he was not interested in the kind of idealized, fake-primitive images of blacks - the Noble Negroes in Art Deco guise - that tended to be produced as an antidote to the toxic racist stereotypes with which white popular culture had flooded
Among these strengths, I have some weaknesses and challenges I will need to overcome. Foremost among these is the physical side of the Service Academy lifestyle. I lack upper body strength, and I seldom hold myself to any rigid or intense training regimen. Because of this, I will have to overcome the physical barriers presented by the candidate fitness assessment and daily physical training at an Academy. To prepare myself for this, I have begun working out almost daily at home, focusing on my own personal weaknesses and striving to overcome the challenges they
For the purposes of these studies and this paper, strength training will be defined as the use of progressive resistance methods such as body weight (i.e. pushups), free weights, isotonic and isokinetic machines utilized in an attempt to increase one’s ability to exert or resist force (Cahill, 1995). Prepubescence will be defined as a child, male or female, typically no older than
Jacob cuts up a pair of his mother's stockings and fashions them into a balaclava.
When a person gets old they become forgetful and forgetting your memories is frightening, that’s why Jacob is concerned about his poor memory.
As a sport psychology consultant, there are several courses of actions that might help Matt deal with his shoulder injury. These courses of actions include goal setting, positive-self talk, imagery, and relaxation training. First of all, personal performance goals can reduce the time and length of shoulder healing during Matt’s recovery time. In addition to goal setting, self-talk will help Matt to rebuild his confidence, so he could learn to prevent negative thoughts that will hinder his ability to perform in competitions. Accordingly, Matt can also visualize himself weightlifting, so it can quicken his return to competitive lifting. Lastly, Matt can also relieve the pain and stress that’s associated with recovery process through relaxation training, which will allow him to become a better competitor during future weight lifting
Now that Job’s interview was over. It was time was Jacob to share his story with Maxwell. When Jacob enter the room to tell his story. Maxwell could not help, but notice the height of Jacob. He looked to be a tall, strong man, with broad shoulders and thick muscular limbs. Before, he began his interview Jacob clarified his different identity to Maxwell. He stated “I have been known by many names: heel catcher, deceiver, father of the tribes. My favorite name is the one God Himself gave me: Israel. The name I received at birth from my father and mother is Jacob” (Maxwell, 2014, p. 49).
There are three universal lifting exercises which nearly every person has partial knowledge of what they are and do for your body; those being the bench, squat and deadlift. At all lifting levels, people attempt these three exercises, and a majority of participants have incorrect technique which could easily harm themselves. Numerous people do not have a solid idea as to why or which type of exercise they should be doing that will give the results they are looking for. Specifically, for the deadlift, there are two major exercises which bring you different body focuses and results. The two different variations to the deadlifts are a traditional barbell deadlift and a trap bar deadlift.
Therefore, the JOINTS Program would seek to address these impairments with the ultimate outcome being participants’ enhanced ability to self-manage their condition. Through self-management, it is anticipated that participants would achieve the overarching goal of the JOINTS Program, which is to improve function and reduce pain.

Once upon on a time, in the land of Canaan, there lived a man named Jacob. He had eleven sons, but his favorite was his youngest son Joseph who was seventeen. Now, Joseph wasn’t favored by anyone else other than his father. His older brothers hated him and made plans of killing him, because they thought of Joseph as being spoiled, and a tattletale. One day, Joseph had a dream that the brothers and himself were picking grain and he was in the center, his brothers bowed down to him. This made his brothers more mad, but his father listened and was proud. Later, Joseph had another dream and made the mistake of telling his family again. Joseph said, “listen, I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to

During the evaluation of my client Jason, I’ve noticed three things that were weak in movements. They are overhead squats, single leg raise, and toe touches(ranging from importance to least importance). Starting with overhead squats, when jason would go down for the squat, his back would lean forward. The correct manner would be when squatting, the back must be perfectly straight. To improve his flaw, Jason can balance himself to be straight with his chest staying tall. Another issue is the single leg raise. When performing a single leg raise. One leg is still while the other raises up to a 80/90 degree angle. Jason on the other hand, his leg would not reach to the 80/90 degree requirement. His hamstrings are tight, preventing him to perform
