BYD Dance in Concert The BYU Dance in Concert was a truly wonderful and spectacular event to have the privilege of watching. The energy and enthusiasm of all of the groups brought an excitement to the audience. From the grace and elegance of the ballroom team to the creativity of the contemporary numbers, all aspects where exceptional. The International Folk Dance Ensemble has an infectious happiness. Their love of the people and culture they are preforming that dances from shines through. In “Papa Loko,” I loved how big and exciting their movements were while also being very precise. The Hungarian dance had amazing timing and synchronization. The way they were able to stay in time with each other without any outside sources to keep the beat was inspirational. Very similar in enthusiasm and cultural splendor was the Living Legends. The Living legends had a wonderful way of transporting the audience through time and space. “Ku’u Leo Aloha” was …show more content…
The “Ordinary Festivals” was so creative. None of the dances were every doing the exact same choreography at the same time and the dancers did some amazing tricks which made it very fun to watch. The Theate Ballet was good but I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much. In “The So-Called Laws of Nature” there was too much going on. I either wanted to watch the video or watch the live dance and having them going at the same time made it difficult to enjoy either one. I think it would have better if the live dance and the video were in synch but they were not so it caused a conflict of where my attention should be. I also felt that there was less emotional connection in the ballet numbers. The Ballroom team was impressive on many fronts. The pasa doble had so much power and enthusiasm; while the “Ode to Joy” was so graceful and elegant. It was easy to see they were enjoying the dances while they still kept them dignified and preformed the way those dances are meant to be
The nature of this performance is live entertainment. They complete their objectives by providing the audience a wonderful time and teaches all about collaboration as a group. Throughout the show, each dance shows the character of everyone. What I most liked about this performance was their unity in every performance, they would stick together and had the same rhythm to follow, while they were keeping their own sense of style.
While observing this dance ballet, there were many things that caught my attention. First, the theater itself was extremely large, and the stage itself was big, and the dancers had plenty of room to move across the stage and perform their routines. There were many dancers, and they all played various roles that ranged from Clara, Fritz, Herr Drosselmeyer, the Rat King, the Nutcracker, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, and many more. All of the performers wore vivid costumes
The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand.
Some of the movements executed by the dancers are similar to those executed by dancers in a stepping performance and also in a tap dance presentation. This presentation falls into the group of the new trends of modern dance, in which the choreographer are taking more and more liberty with various dance combinations, and including strong messages in their work. I would definitely attend other dance performance, not only from this company, but also by other companies; and would also recommend this performance, especially to people going through a dark period in their life. This performance finished convincing me that dance is surely the most communicative of the art forms, and that a single presentation can convey more than one
All of the performances were beautiful and I loved how they all displayed a different story. The thing about the dances is that they all were very fluid and moved and danced with so much emotion. One performance that stuck out to me was City of Rain. The choreographer is Camille Brown. Camille Brown is a dance educator, director, dancer, and a choreographer. She began her career in Ronald k. Brown’s evidence, A dance company. Her performances and choreography has won her the Bessie nomination for Best Performance. Aside from City of Rain, Camille has created works such as Good & Grown, The Groove to Nobody’s Business, and Mr.TOL E. RAnCE. On Camille Brown’s webpage her mission statement says that her company wants to “present authentic performances that foster dialogue among audiences and local communities to instill a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the live arts experience in a social and aesthetic context”. So
My immediate response to the whole performance was astonishment. When I say astonishment I mean that the whole show was like nothing I’ve seen before. I would call the Dance Theatre of Harlem more of a modern ballet instead of classic like Cinderella or The Nutcracker. It was interesting to see how ballet is interpreted by a different company such as the Harlem Theatre of Harlem. I
The performance took place on October 8th at 8pm at the newley renovated Northrop auditorium. The new acoustics of the venue added greatly to the overall performance. It really brought the auditorium to life and helped to take the viewer to a whole other place. I only regret that I wasn’t able to focus completely on the ensemble’s music due to being distracted by the exciting show the dancers were putting on.
That was until the “strange” music started and the dancers came out moving the portable flats to create imageries. It was really distracting having some of the dancers, usually a male and a female, narrate the story while others danced on stage the same time. I was so captivated and drawn into the dialogue being shared that I forgot at the initial part of the performance that I came to watch a dance. I had to adjust my eyes to see the whole stage so I don’t miss a
The concert was called “Celebration of Dance”. The show was performed from December 3 to December 6. The show was performed at Cypress College. It was my second time that I attend a dance concert. I was very pleasantly surprised at the exceptional quality of dances, choreography, lighting, music, and customs; however, I enjoyed the first dance concert at Cerritos college more. Most the performers were done extremely professionally which shows that the dance department faculty at Cypress College worked really hard to make the concert in it best shapes. All the dances attracted most of the audience and made them enjoy their time watching the concert. Also, it had a variety of different types of dances and music that was performed by talented
Surely, the intense joy and confidence with which Ashley Bouder in Square Dance and Sterling Hyltin in Duo Concertante danced and carried themselves must have radiated on Saturday afternoon handily throughout the theater. Although not surprising, the sheer skill with which both executed their steps was nevertheless astonishing. Taylor Stanley and Robert Fairchild, their partners respectively, were equally outstanding.
My last point is about the dancers’ techniques, which especially relates to the timing of their piece. While observing the dance, I couldn't help but notice the amount free movement being used. I don’t necessarily think that using free movement was the best idea for this piece, because the tempo of the song Clarity is very technical. In my opinion, if the dancers had increased their technique to perfect their piece, it may have looked professional and complete.
The movements were very specific and showed the story of the dance. The partners used many movements that contained many body
exciting song and dance, performed by pairs and groups of people for others to watch at the fair.
There are several reasons why I loved this one. The first reason, because the background music touched my heart because it reminded of my father. Also, I the reason that made me like this dance because a lot of dancers participated in this dance and how they were very well organized and they were moving together and their movement wasn’t distracted at all. The costumes of the dancers were incredibly perfect as the dancers looked like angels. Moreover, the light was amazing. Also, another dance that I really liked called Paris this dance surprised me. I had mix emotions at the same time while I was watching this dance. Now, what surprised that it was performed by Dr. Yoav Kaddar and Maureen Mansfield and Dr Kaddar is the director of the Dance Now performance and he’s also director of the Dance program. The background music reminded me when I was in Paris and a lot of good memories there. The dancers were awesome as you I saw two old dancers dance like as they were very young dancers and they were connected to each other and their facial expression was very good and was suitable with the background music. Moreover, I liked the idea that Dr. Kaddar and Mansfield because the other dances was performed by young dancers but, this act was totally different and
I liked the dance piece because the dancers were limited physically in their bodies, but their dancing was beyond limited and astounding. At first, I was a bit doubtful and sceptical before watching the dance because I thought the dancers were going to perform with very minimal and stiff movements. But to my surprise, the dancers moved gracefully on stage. The two dancers used quite a lot of space. The dancers used all levels of space from low to high. For example, the dancers executed amazing leaps, jumps and lifts in their performance that represented as high levels of space. The dancers movements were grand; however, they were also whimsical, sharp, circular, and clean. The dancers utilized most parts of the stage. The pattern of the space that performers used was more curved than linear. There were two dancers in this piece, the male dancer that had only one leg and the female dancer that had only one arm. The genre of dance that was performed was a ballet; though, in my observations the dance seemed to be more contemporary than ballet. For instance, the tempo of the dance was slower and had less rhythm than most classical ballets I’ve observed. Also, there were a couple of pauses and rests during the performance. The dance
