When I turned eleven years old, just like many other girls, I developed a new interest: makeup. I was endlessly fascinated by this way to transform the everyday into something new, and amazed by the intricate creations, terrifying monsters, and almost magical transformations I saw online. It didn’t take me long to try creating my own art.
In the movie My Girl, Vada Sultenfuss models the symptoms commonly used to diagnose Illness Anxiety Disorder. However, she does not possess this psychological abnormality. As portrayed in the film, Vada exhibits thoughts and behaviors that are not typical of an eleven year old girl. At first glance, she may seem mentally sick to the viewer. Upon further examination however, it is clear to see that is not the case. The odd behaviors modeled by this young child are actually a cry for attention, and there are many aspects of this film that lead to this conclusion.

Friendships is a poem by Erica Fryberg that can relate to almost anybody who has experienced real and fake friendships, as it is about the speaker’s perspective on friendships, and the difference between having real and fake friends, forced friendships and real friendships. Through a comparison of friendships and furniture, the poet uses a humorous tone to describe friendships, making the speaker relatable. I particularly enjoyed this, as on a personal level I was able to relate to this, as a student at a school where teachers attempted to force unnatural relationships multiple times. Overall, this poem was an engaging poem, which, through language and poetic devices, clearly described the difference between real and fake friendships.
In the paper titled “Factory Farming: The Truth about the Poultry Industry” by Jessica Stopa, she informs readers about the malpractices of chicken livestock in the food industry in comparison to how traditional agriculture practices were previously before the industrialization age. Her paper was intended to speak to American food consumers and bring to light or inform about the severity of industrialized farming practices. The writing was prompted by one of Ms. Stopa’s english classes and the intention of this work is to rhetorically analyze her credentials. She incorporates a heavy amount of logos into her work to backup her own logic, but also includes bits of pathos about the treatment of chicken and ethos by referring a figure who operates a local farm.

Room six, provided insight into ethnography and its role in qualitative research. Consider it: A naked bald figure shouts, “To be, or not to be” (3.1.56) / “I eject all the sperm I have received” (Müller 214), in a hyperfeminine body with a still intact penis. In August 2014, Canadian transgender performance artist Nina Arsenault performed selections of Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Heiner Müller’s Hamletmachine at the Palais des Papes in I AM, directed by Lemi Ponifasio. Arsenault is a multi-disciplinary artist who has had more than sixty cosmetic procedures to feminize and beautify her formerly male body; yet she decided to retain her penis. The corporeality of Arsenault’s body records the surgical modifications she has made to her own body, including silicone injections, facelifts and other procedures. This transformation was driven by the virtuosic intent of becoming her own ideal version of
